they can't compete with gnu/linux unless they open source the windows os and office software. and then they have to gain developers willing to work on improvements.
it isn't just tco. i for one still would mess with "openwindows" because of the company it came from.
it's not that hard to install debian.
i've only been using it for a about a month or so and did an basic install the used the internet to install x and everything else needed. blackbox, gkrellm etc.
