They should really use Intel's i850 motherboard to pit against the Athlon.
The p4 platform is simply not designed for DDR in mind, adding DDR in the i84x boards are afterthoughts and IMO I would much rather use Intel boards with Intel processors.
Athlon is doing quite well right now, seems like there might be a delay for the.13 Athlons, hopefully it will work out ok.
This technology will be extremely useful for news channels, you know those crappy video phones they use now?, it's like watching streaming videos off a 56k modem. This will probably help to bridge this gap
You don't understand, may be individuals won't buy it but companies in asia nowdays don't pay for their software either. That's the messed up part, at least most companies in NA actually pay for their software regardless how much it costs them.
It would be extremely interesting to see when the court actually makes Kazza to shut down, I wonder what would happen since Kazza doesn't have a centralized server.
Next step? I think the cournts will try to force ISPs to refuse any incoming/outgoing connection to kazza or similar services.
Although I have never used OS X before, but from all the screehshots I've seen, those Japanese fonts look really good, the best I've seen.
As for Linux, I use KDE and fonts look hidous @ default but after you import all the true type fonts from your Windows installation the AAed fonts looks way better than WinXP's AA.
Do you want to konw why P4 is slower than Athlon? Probably one of the main reason is not the subsystem in your case, since RC5 only utilizes your CPU, P4 has a longer pipeline than your Athlon, making the CPU doing less calculation per clock.
Long Pipeline does have an advantage however, longer the pipeline usually mean higher Mhz.
1. it's dangerious (this doesn't count if you are Iceman)
2. The P4 was running at 3.5Ghz just enough to run the WCPUID program.
3. When condenstion sets in, bye bye, Mobo and CPU
Large OLED screen is still way off though, OLED will come up on smaller devices first, Motolora's Timeport uses a OLED screen. Next step is a PDA screen then to monitor.
I thought the lifespan of the screen is pretty short, way shorter than LCD/CRT, anyone can comment on that?
Let me summary this, both products will never fly,
Freestyle - POS, if webtv failed, I don't see why this would even fly, PC are so cheap these days, what's to point to have this?
Mira - Really cool, remember that the rumored iMac would do this, however, 802.11b is too slow for this kind of stuff, wait for 802.11g and the lower cost of LCD Touchscreens until this thing will start to fly.
The main reason why this would probably work is the fact that this is to scare the s*** out of current domain name owners, let me explain.
Let's say you are the owner of Slashdot.org, you surely don't want someone to "steal" your domain if you have forgot to renew your domain. Remember they've just have an option to register the domain for 10 years? Seeing next to no one is going for that (god knows what happens to the net in 10 years). With ths waitlist thing, more people would probably go for a longer registratoin period because they don't want to lose their domain name.
Yeah, but speed is everything, if you can travel faster than rockets than it might be a worthwhile thing for special usage at the beginning and as always, technology improves over time things will get resolved eventually.
Microsoft's only downside exposure would be the potential demise of IIS, which has no financial impact because the Web server is bundled as part of the OS. And, here, Microsoft has seemingly acknowledged defeat: IIS is not available on the Home edition of XP and the Professional edition, by default, is installed without IIS."
XP Home is a home OS, it is not suppose to have IIS built in. XP Professional is a replacement for the workstation version of NT, historically speaking it had always have a crippled version of IIS as an optional addon.
You are only suppose to have IIS on Server edition of XP which will be called Windows.NET
Yeah, I agree with you, for what it's worth, MS Word is still the best WP in any platform.
Same goes to GUI though, I think the open source community should really try to improve the UI too.
The OEM licence for Windows is around $100, and last time I checked, Linux is still free.
May be I am stupid, if so I would like someone to tell me why Lindows, linux that can run SOME Windows Apps and all of the linux apps is better than my Windows XP + Mandrake setup? Last time I checked Windows XP can run all the Windows programs (except some weirdo ones) and all of the linux programs all at the same price?
I think Linux movment should now look at how to improve and refine the UI. That's the biggest turn off.
That's what they said too when Time leaked out ginger early, it is almost impossible for Apple to pull that out.
This is it folks, no iWalk no iSpeical
No matter how crappy you think Itanium is. HP and Intel codeveloped the IA-64.
They actually dumped their own RISC processor in favourite of Itanium. Look what they are getting into now...
P4 was designed with Rambus ram in mind.

Although I am not Amish myself but I am pretty sure that they have computers theses days too.
may be they should live under a rock, that might help.

It's Integer, It is still slow neverthless.

The problem with using N to cool CPU down is

OLED should be the future or at least I hope.

I think iPOD is already over killed, I mean, your battery can't even last long enough for all the sounds, I think a perfect mp3 player should have:
Decent form factor - Small is good, but too small is stupid.
Decent Storage - 512MB flash is good enough with matching battery life.
Mutliple format support - OGG, WMA, MP3, MP3Pro
Expansion - SD Expansion is good enough.
That's it, that's all I am asking for.
I know, those damn bots and you think people have better things to do..
I doubt it, since it's hard to trace the spammer and they are probably just some script kiddies anyways.
there hasn't been a new propulsion technology for manned spaceflight since the 1970's
Dude, what about the ion engine, that was new.
Russian actually had a crazy idea of dnoate a nike behind a vessel so the ship can go foward probably at an insane speed.
That of course, never flew (no pun intended)

Pun intended of course, remember when Time was the first to leak what "IT" (aka Ginger) is.
Steve Jobs is going to be so pissed, it's not even going to be funny.
Also, it's based on the .13 micron process, 512k cache etc.
not all that impressive, this should've been P4 right at the beginning.
