not bombs, but cruise missiles. what they want is the ability to administer "shock and awe" anywhere in the world in an instant by launching hypersonic attacks from the mainland US.
What bothers me is that a progressive liberal company like Apple that so readily identified itself in its "think different" ad campaigns with peace activists like Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, John Lennon, etc, would so happily provide them with the means to do this. Business is business, I guess, but I thought Apple was a company founded on "principles"...
that doesn't mean that the music industry has to continue selling through venues that accept cash (or cash without ID) It would be fairly simple to implement a print/burn-on-demand system that watermarks the files with a unique ID upon delivery. Wouldn't even require introducing a new medium or new hardware on the user's part...
i was just thinkin- a 50" display with that kind of resolution would be perfect for viewing at the normal viewing distance one uses for computer stuff. imagine having a big 'ol screen like that on your desk. so much room! it'd be like minority report. i'd have 50 bazillion documents open at once... ok, i do that already, but i'd actually be able to see them all!
actually, i just did the math- a 50" UHDTV (7680x4320) would be roughly 180 ppi, which would be comparable to most printed materials....that would be a very, very nice display...
when I said "this resolution" I was referring to the resolution of UHDTV (7,680 x 4,320). I'm saying that a 50" UHDTV would have a comparable number of pixels per in as a 17" WXGA display. My parents does do the full 1920x1080, but the problem is that with a 51" screen, that amounts to ~43ppi. A 17" WXGA display is ~98ppi.
very true- and if this is an indicator of what kind of bandwidth is just around the corner, hallej-freakin-lujah! Of course, I can think if way better things to do with the bandwidth than to waste it on "Tee Vee". The sharpest, most immersive experience in the world couldn't keep TV from sucking. I visit my parents with their HDTV and 5 bazillion channels of digital cable and think- "all these channels-- it just takes you longer to flip through them and realize that there's nothing on worth watching..."
i have to disagree. my folks have a 51" HDTV, and i can still see the pixels. definitely room for improvement.
consider that a 17" WXGA screen is 1440x900- you could definitely go up to, say, a 50" screen with this resolution and have something really photoreal, even when you're standing up close to it....not that one usually watches their 50" TV from such a distance, but maybe we would if it looked good up close
i'd argue that the 20 channels of sound would be much less noticably better than the higher resolution...
It's like saying "hey, a CD costs $0.10; but with Microsoft-Windows on it it costs more than $40. What the hell are they making these disks out of? gold?"
uhh... no it's not- what value have they added that makes it worth $550/acre? nothing! it's just a server...
so, google that's a little more than 16 acres/server. multiply that by $550 and you've got an $8,800 server... what the hell are they running this game on? or does this go into some sort of annuity to pay for the lifetime maintenance of this machine? what guarantee does one have that this "[not]real estate" will be around in 10 years?
i know in after effects you have the option of changing the framerate and having it average the content of the in-between frames (instead of dropping them) so that it's smoother. i think if you wanted the effect of moving really fast, that would be better, even if a bit blurry. (hey, everything IS a blur when you're traveling at the speed of sound...)
i'd like to see what it looks like that way, anyway... (have fun spending another 8 hours rendering!)
it's simple. your woman, and even your life, can be viewed as a game. instead of working hard to score in a game, work hard to score with your woman... instead of exploring levels of some fake world, figure out what places you can take your woman to in the real world that get her in the mood. figure out how to get her to do x and y things that she would never think of doing.
making your woman happy and the resultant behaviors she will perform for you are infinitely more rewarding than any intangible, fictional reward a game might offer
trust me, evolution has made women the most challenging and addictive game ever, there's just a steep learning curve.
i thought champagne got its name from the cork's mushroom (champagnon? sp?) shape, which keeps it from popping out due to the pressure from the carbonation... perhaps the region was named afterward?
IANAGeologist, and seeing how this is modded funny, I don't know if you're being serious, but it made me think of something that maybe someone could answer-
Is the metor that hit the earth and killed off the dinosaurs in any way to the breakup of pangea? Like, is it possible that the entire crust could have solidified into one piece and then the meteor came and fractured it, setting the continents adrift? The site of impact looks pretty central to this diagram...
"Elephants used to be little rat like creatures once."
WTF!? I want one? How do you know this? Do they have fossil evidence? If so, we should definitely go Jurassic Park with these and domesticate them... Can you say vacuum cleaner? heeeayl yeah...
Karma - 2.7" X 3.0" X 1.1" = 8.91 cu in, weird form factor, clunky interface
iPod - 4.1" X 2.4" X.62" = 6.1 cu in, cigarette pack/playing card form factor (fits well in pocket), elegant interface. Worth $140 more? To some people, yes.
this doesn't surprise me one bit. i think microsoft has always envied apple's control over the hardware, and here they have the opportunity to create a fixed development platform where they don't have to worry about every random peripheral someone wants to use.
as an added bonus, this completely locks the user into using MS's OS, as I'm sure installing Linux or any other OS would probably consitute a DMCA violation, plus MS gets to reap all the licensing fees for any 3rd party software written for it.
geez... they oughta be paying ME $600 to use it...
with solar cells getting better all the time, it seems like by the time these batteries make it to market, the charge problem could be solved for most with a solar array on the roof of the car. for every commute, the car will likely spend 8 hours sitting around on a parking lot, charging up...
I've had AT&T for 3 years now, and everything has been great, but I just moved to my parents' house and they have an aluminum roof, aluminum siding, and metal screens on all the windows. Can you say NO SIGNAL? On the upshot, the wi-fi is clean and clear throughout the house...:)
yeah, i'm sure it was...
also note that the link he gave included his "retail retreat" website as the referrer...
...is that mike myers?

...that was used to hold down shift in order to circumvent their last silly attempt at copy protection?

no, no- you read it wrong.

well, that's one way to keep people from sharing the files...

I think you must mean 4.76%.
:)
Remember, mind those decimal points!
or, as my h.s. chem teacher would say - SIGGIE DIGGIES!!!!
lol! exactly!
