You didn't get my point about the roads, i was saying that its *not* ok to do it the way its done, it should be *flat* road access tax, regardless of how much gas you use. Its about the actual access to the road, not what is in your car. Ok, i admit my analogy was confusing as its not a true comparison to the network, where usage does not relate to cost, ( unlike a road ) so ill give you that much. It was late
Now, "So called unlimited rate" F-ing moron. that is what my damned contract says so no, its not some 'so called' garbage its reality. If my usage effects TOS for other customers, then the ISP didnt plan ahead and over sold. Too bad..
Im done arguing anyway. Its wrong for me to be penalized due to stupid neighbors ( or drivers ). period, end of discussion.
And anyone that disagrees with me is wrong, stupid, in my way, and should be banned from usage, or even removed from the gene pool totally.
Unfortunately we dont have the absolute right to free speech in this country to 'do what you like'. If you go out and tell somone how to commit a crime, with the sole intent of teaching them to commit it, then you get tossed in jail too..
If you teach them as a tool to avoid being ripped off however, you get away with it.
its all a grey area, and can get you put away if you are on the wrong side of the judge ( or the guy in the black van )
Then my lame neighbor should be able to get on a pay per use plan. I signed up for unlimited. That is what my contract says, so i use it as such.
Why should i pay more because my neighbor doesnt use as much? Thats like saying i should pay more *road* taxes because i drive a supercharged v8, but the guy next door has a 1 cyl hybrid.. We use the same amount of road regardless of how much faster i suck gas..
Well of course they are losing business, they are no longer an IBM thinkpad so fewer people want them.
I dont think it matters that its china, but it does matter its not big blue. Now thinkpads are just like any other piece of imported junk. Might as well for for the price point.
It really doenst cost more to push more bits over the month, while it does cost more to produce the extra power to feed your house if you use more energy.
Now that they have everyone used to using the net, it it time to clamp back down to where you only get so many bytes a month, or so many hours.
Remember when this was the norm, and few people really cared about the 'internet' ? un-metered usage is what caused/allowed things to take off. going back to it will hurt a lot of business that exist only because of the network.
This reminds me a a drug dealer. Cheap[ drugs until you get hooked.
Cell phones are next, now that all your teenagers are used to those 'free in-plan calling' things
We had an engineer president once, a certified nuclear engineer. Ill let you guess who which one that was, and how ineffective he was in playing the national political game. Remember that the president has to deal with both sides of congress, and play that silly game to get anything done.
We also could have had an IT engineer once, but the public rejected him, once again due to his lack of 'political savvy'. Lets hope they 'revolt' when Bill runs... ( its coming, anyone can see it )
About 25% off the top just for the OS. Sounds pretty typical in todays computing world. Gone are the days where programmers actually cared enough ( or know how ) to make their code efficient.
Besides why should they? Next years model wil be bigge, faster, better anyway, right? ( that was sarcasm, for the slow ones among us )
I wasnt bashing you, i was commenting on how childish the people in the story sound.
I was actually agreeing with you, and extending it somewhat.
Espcially children..
Forces you to watch the same thing over and over again..
Potential millions as every 70 and 80's sitcom will have to pay up.
isnt that the reccomended power for Vista?
If one looks closely the core OS IS already open.. Its the interface that isnt, and dont hold your breath on that ever happening.
Unless you are selling, and have a *real* dollar value, its all just shady accounting practices.
I hope this puts them out of business.
Ummm this is microsoft we are talking about, that is not how they do business.
All 'embrace' jokes aside, they dont take risks like that. No need for them to start now.

Remember its for the kids... or terrorists.. or someting ... its gotta go ..
That way if they botch it, they might be liable for the mistake, not you.
Sure you lose your patent, but at least you might be covered for any damages that are incurred..
Only pansys need a distro.. be a man and do it yourself..
Ok, so im only kidding. somewhat.

There is a problem with your analogy.
It really doenst cost more to push more bits over the month, while it does cost more to produce the extra power to feed your house if you use more energy.
The guys in the black van are more dangerous. Who knows what parts of what you say today will be outlawed tomorrow.
Posting AC may not get you anywhere however, your IP still is out there.
"Using the same mentality as the RIAA, ISPs attack their customers"
"Hey, there are plenty more in line, and since we have a virtual monopoly, where else will they go anyway? "
See, that is the problem of letting monopolies exist in the data 'market'.
Around here we have 2 choices. One is cable, and you cant choose your company. 2nd is our phone co, and we only have one that isn't cost prohibitive.
And don't tel me to goto satellite, that is slower and more $ then what will come out of this latest 'screw the consumer' kick.

Summer sucks.
That way im not tied to any 'service' being up and alive, be it pay or free.

Ok, so when do we get to see this? If he wins it will prove once and for all that you can buy a position.

Its already unberable. Perhaps we can create our own anti-ad campaign with them. "This space NOT for rent" sort of stuff.
