This was on history channel last week.. And THAT was a re-run..
Everyone now knows we co-existed for quite some time.
The running theory is we ran the Neanderthals out of town as we slowly migrated and covered the earth. Both by force ( killing them for ground space ) and that we ate all their food.
We were smarter and able to use tools better, so we won. Again the theory is we ate more fish.. so our brains developed more.
We care because the more large scale installs of OSS there is only helps keep it alive.
Remember, OSS is being attacked from several directions, and every bit of 'support' helps ensure that in another 10 years you get to choose what OS you use, like you can today.
But yes the WTO really messes the concept up of right and wrong.. But this is their goal, they want the power to decide right and wrong. To play judge, jury AND executioner. One world government, in effect.
Since its free, that shouldnt be a problem.
Never looked at linspire ( even before the name change ), but if its free, why not?
Can always be erased with a good enough legal team.
If you cant beat them, sue them.
The day that the HSD declares it 'a national security risk' and mandates the use of 'approved software' ( and hardware ).
Sure, you can still run your C64 at home, but dont expect to get online. And if you try, expect to be visited by the bit police.

My point was this:
Your car is locked, using 100% electronic locks. You run off and leave your lights on.
You come back later to a dead battery, locked doors and no way to tell them to open. Unless there is a ( as you put it ) 'legacy lock' system.
My car has remote power locks, if the battery is dead I better have my key handy... ( or a brick )
No need to increase the complexity of the car just to be 'cool'.
This is bad is sooo many ways..
What ever happened to haveing a mechanical lock and key?
I want to see what they do when your battery dies.
And no, i couldnt get to the FA to see if they had any mechanical backup plans..
Just mandate what sort of software we can use on our PCs.
The HSD needs to enforce this for 'our safety'.
( its sarcasm )
You proved my point. They can easily add support to what ever format they want.
( and i can already export in PDF from microsoft products.. today. )
Not that i have a problem with ousting microsoft, but this 'format requirement' isnt even close to that.
PS: for your RTFA attitude, bite me. If the story summary isnt accurate, dont blame me, blame the editors.
In 1850, yes it was considered 'right'. In 2005 its considered 'wrong'.
The concept of 'right and wrong' changes over time.
They are tossing out file formats, not microsoft.
Ever noticed word can read/write ( for the most part ) open formats such as html, or RTF?
Slow news day eh?
And since when is microsoft the government? The 'teaparty' was a protest by the people against the government.
As I look around my room ( both at home and the office ) I dont see a microsoft OS. Havent for several years now.
Sure, ive had to go thru hoops at the office to be compatible, but there is choice out there. ( and i chose to abstain, using your examples )
Last time i was at the compute store, i saw PCs there with lindows, and a few Apples with OSX.. Again, a choice.
Now, if we just had the marketing power the microsoft has to go out and market choice...

Hey, who ever said life is fair?
Not only can it protect your files from being accessed by spyware, it can protect them from being accessed by you.
That is, when the 'key holders' decide that the information is forbidden. ( or just politically incorrect ).
And 'loss of everything great about computers? Remember, you are *just* a consumer, you should be happy with your 'media-device'.
The world is doomed anyway..
But yes the WTO really messes the concept up of right and wrong.. But this is their goal, they want the power to decide right and wrong. To play judge, jury AND executioner. One world government, in effect.
you are right, until you factor in the effect of the WTO treaties..
All they have to do is attach the term ' commerce ' to the case, and the more favorable laws apply .
Seriously though, isnt 250 a bit much for a unproven document?
Perhaps its worth that, but i personally wont take a gamble that it is. Ill just keep doing things that work.
Would have been nice to read it.
Konqueror and Firefox are free all the time..
While this sounds good, at what point does it get far enough up the food chain to be the next *AA target for all-out-war?
ed2k isnt anonymous in the least, and is vunerable.
It also relies on servers ( last i heard anyway )
Yet another reason not to use flash.
As if the others were not enough, this just puts it over the top.
A company being able to audit my computer? Over my dead body.
While its not a 'drm product' as such, it is the foundation for a filesystem that eventually will support drm at the byte level.
Its been stated once long ago that was their goal.
So you go hide your head in the sand if you wish, and belive 'big corporations are all good' i prefer not to.
Isnt that a bit more accurate?
Ah, you must not work in the professional world, where these things DO matter..
Your clothes, where you live, what kind of car you drive all factor into your career options in the 'professional' world..
Be it right or wrong, its reality.
It was a joke..
Was that not the entire point of switching? That Jobs was not pleased with the PPC options for portables?
And what does he mean by 'low end' ? Does that mean as better PPC chips come out ( like the G6 ) they will just be ignored?
This whole thing is rather confusing now.
Personally, im glad to see the PPC will still be around in Apple products for a while longer, but gheesh, lets make a decision and stick with it...
