Novell NMAS framework is a mudular authentication schema.
You can have multifactor (password, bio, token, smartcard, etc.etc) authentification and/or identification.
Lots of device allows you to have an NMAS sequence.
I've setup some setup like this, for hospitals, which requires quick login/logout.
You can easily in integrate that with Windows. Support for other platform are also available.
Yes, Gaim is very good, flexible, cross-platform, open-source, supports differents protocols, including Groupwise Messenger (sorry, this is my Novell fan post !:)
I run it mon my WinXP & openSuse 10, and it's great.
Virtual Office is good, yeah. It has some limitations, like the fact that it is web. With the combination of iFolder 3.0, it can make something good. Also, Novell has no solution for a collaborative file services. Something that can handle multiple copies of the same document, for example. Also, there is no access for other type of access, like wap or stuff like this. Virtual office is a low cost solution for companies who already have some Netware or OES linux servers.
Novell has a product called DirXML (Nsure Identity Manager) which can synchronise password from and to almost any database. They provide connector for ADS, Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, etc. And you can write your own...
With NSure SecureLogin which can safely store password for you, I've setup some truly Single-Sign on solution.
Connect a biometric or a token card reader, and you're all setup !
Precision : NDS (Novell Directory Services) is no longer existing. It was part of Netware, and has been seperate from it's core to be eDirectory.
eDirectory runs on Windows, Linux, Netware, Unix, Solaris
I would definitivly say Novell eDirectory
They are doing directory services for so many years, and eDirectory is fully cross-platform, full-replication, etc.etc..
Linux Small Business is not suitable here, because it is for less than 50 employees....
But an OpenEnterprise server would be good for them.
It can run ZENworks 7, and Groupwise 7 (full linux/windows/mac support)
Yes, you seem to be right. Actually, i've played a lot with Novell products in the last 2-3 years. From Netware 5.x to 6.x, edirectory, ichain, extend, dirxml, groupwise, zen of course, and all sub derived products like ifolder and iprint. I'm really a novell fan, but i'm bit afraid of what novell is doing now.
I've also played with suse9, and recently OES, all this is fine, but novell is preaching oneNet, but the problem is that there's so many flavor of products, and the devel seems to be done all over the world, that the QA is not doing the right job. Mixing Novell products together is really hard, and gives all kind of problems. Novell hotline support is decreasing in efficenty of support, and with the zen7 sneak peak, i'm affraid that this will continue. We, zen4 and zen6.5 fans, love the C1 administration, cause it works, and it's clear. The sneak peak is showing a web interface, and doesn't seem to be integrated to iManager. What, not again another interface to manage another Novell product ??
Sorry for this flamebait post, but that's my opinion.
make sure to deal your vacations
usually, contracts are based on 52 weeks/year, which means that you will work all year long... think about 2-3 weeks off, more if you wish..;)
I'm wondering about that, because, as a hosting provider, we host a lot of domains.
By reading this proposal, it means that each domain will need a pair of private/public keys.
My customers will probably don't care about that, and will require that we take care of handling dozens of keys... that can be a mess for hosting compagnies....
GAIM supports Groupwise Messenger... It's a guess, but probably because of that Supports, for people whos wants to chat on msn for friends, and groupwise messenger for corporate stuff..
We've just moved to Groupwise 6.5SP2 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9. As of today, Grpwise 6.5 on SLES9 is not officially, but you'll find 1 TID on Novell website giving you the first answer to the first problem you will encouter. Works pretty well. Novell plans to officially support SLES9 with Groupwise starting of SP3, which is scheduled to be relaese soon.
The only frustrating think I find is that Novell has bought SUSE about 1 year ago, and not all Novell/SUSE/Ximian are yet compatible each other. I know it is a big/enormous job todo, but Novell has to merge all products really quick, if they want to enable OneNet fast, to shiht Microsoft where they failed.
Per extrapolation, and personal opinion, I would say that Novell will achieve this by the second Q of 2005..
Come on Novell guys, lets go back to work

SUSE 9.2 Released

Wait about a month, and Novell will release their Open-Enterprise Server. This will be a merge between Netware 6.5 & SuSE Enterprise Server 9. NSS will be available, Certificate server, etc. For ConsoleOne, i affraid No, but again, Novell annouces for this winter ZENworks plugins for iManager...
VmWare has a lot of other products, like GSX servers, which are really cool
it lets you run multiple os as "services", so you don't need to login to start manually each vmos
also, new cool products, in collaboration with ibm, will offer vmware as the OS of the machine, so you'll be able to swap server from one blade to another "live"
I agree
Look at Novell now, in the past, they made the mistake to focus on Netware, and when Windows 2000 was release, they crawled under MS.
Now, they got good solutions, not only based on Netware, like Edir, VirtualOffice, DirXML (nice one) Zenworks, iChain
Actually, i personnaly think that the best environnement for desktop management and integration with web services is Novell..
Teccart http://www.teccart.qc.ca
is offering a good network 3 years diploma with excellent training in Windows/Linux/Novell/Cisco/TCP IP/a bit of prog, etc
Seems that Microsoft is still offering BIG patches
this fix is 2.8mb !
damm, just for a link problem
I don't know if they included a new clippy bmp in that ?!?!:)
All depends of the signification if IT jobs.
If you pretend that somebody whos answering the phone in an isp is an IT prof, well, yes, maybe.
IT jobs doesn't even means being an diplome of the university, with 30 years of experience, but that kind of study makes me laught, because, they are having problem determining the exact signification of the terms that they used...
Novell and IBM are going together, trying to bring Linux to the desktop. I think that with the announcement of Novell purchasing Ximian (and even Suse), they'll be able to do so. Let's hope that what Novell/IBM promise will be truth, and we'll be able to see linux desktop as usual, as we see ms windows desktop..
