I need faith now because that will PREVENT me from getting my just due, which is death. This is the basic premise for Christianity. For all your studying and church attendance, you missed the most basic point. Since you have already labeled me a hypocrit in your mind, I know you will not pay any attention to anything I write, and indeed you are telling me not to be quick to judge while already labelling me. So, who is in fact the hypocrit. I never claimed to know anything about you, I was responding to your post, not attacking you. Don't be so defensive. When you learn how to carry on an adult conversation (i.e. no namecalling), let me know and we can continue this.

Sorry, that should have said "faith negates the need for evidence". My apologies.

The Bible is not subject to such scrutiny and is not based in "TRUTH" whatsoever and thus is flawed. The BIble "may" be suggested to be inspired by god, but in fact was written by a man.If I wrote a text today and said "God inspired me", I would be considered a blashphemer, and a nut. What makes something old less worthless? I do understand that it is frivolous to argue with a person of faith.

The Bible is the most scrutinized book in history. I don't understand how you can believe otherwise. The fact that you can not PROVE what is in it doesn't mean it isn't the truth, and certainly doesn't mean it is flawed. That is ignorance.

Also, the Bible was not written by a men, it was written by several men, who many believe were inspired by God.

I know many people who have written texts that say they were inspired by God, and many people agree. It depends on whether or not it agrees with scripture. If I wrote a book who's message was love and said God inspired it, many people would accept that. If I wrote a book that said left handed people can't go to heaven and said God inspired me, people would reject it.
As for whether or not it is frivilous to argue with a person of faith, that depends on your goal. I like to discuss my beliefs because it makes me question them and myself, and I hope it causes the other person to do the same. If your goal is to get me to lose my faith, it won't happen. If your goal is to get me angry, it is very unlikely, because if you start saying inflammatory things, I will ignore you. Since you are giving up on the "conversation" after one post by me, I will make the assumption your goal is to get people to believe as you do, and you are not interested in exploring your own and other people's beliefs. That is unfortunate, because that's the best way to know yourself.

If you had evidence it wouldn't be faith it would be fact. As for your questions about translation errors, etc. If one believes that the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, then how could one not also believe that He had His hand in it's translation. Most Christians the say the Bible isn't literal or isn't relevant today do so in order to pick out the parts they don't want to follow, and still feel all warm and fuzzy when the sit on a pew Sunday.

I agree, being ancient does not prove its truth, but as I said, faith negates the need for truth.

There is not a correlation between heart surgery success rate and prayer, when the circumstances are extra people praying for randomly chosen patients.
From a scientific perspective, there are WAY too many variables to do a concluesive study. From a Christian perspective, the Bible says, "The fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." I would question the fervency of the people praying. They are praying for people they don't know, and maybe have never met. Were they paid to do this? Were they told it was for a study? You aren't going to pray as hard for someone you don't know as you will for a family member. Also, as was mentioned, God may be trying to get their attention, and the illness is the only way to do that.

On a personal note, my grandmother had non-hodgkins lymphoma. After many months of prayer, she was healed. The doctors were shocked and said it was a miracle. Can I prove the prayer did it? No. If I could, we wouldn't need faith anymore. I've seen prayer change things, but you can explain away anything if you put your mind to it. The mind is the most powerful tool we have, and also the most dangerous weapon.

I wrote a java servlet that runs on our intranet web server. If someone wants to request work, they load a web page, which shows the last (unresolved) reported problem. This is to prevent multiple people submitting the same request. The program logs the NetBIOS name of the machine, and the user enters their name, the name of the machine with the problem (if it isn't the one they are submitting from), and a requested completion date. The user then chooses their problem category, chooses a priority, and enters a description of the problem. This goes into a database and sends an email to them, their manager, and IT staff. We have a seperate servlet that we access to maintain the requests. We can set them as complete, in progress, on hold, etc. We can type a resolution description, so if the problem arises again, we can see how it was resolved. When we mark it complete, it sends an email to the person and their manager asking them to follow a link to a comment servlet, where they mark their level of satisfaction with the work, and enter any comments they want to.

It works well, and we have a seperate reporting servlet that will pull up any kind of customized report the IT department or Senior leadership wants.

Our secretary came in to my office yesterday and told me she received an email from a guy who said she needed to resend her email that he couldn't open the attachment, but she never sent him anything. Then she started saying, "He said... and I asked... and he told me..." and I questioned that and it turned out SHE CALLED HIM! They had a pleasant little conversation about where the mail came from. Neither one of them are computer experts, so I'd have loved to have heard the theories. Anyway it appears his system removed it (hence why he couldn't open it) and all our incoming and outgoing mail is scanned, as well as up to date virus scanners on every PC, so I know she isn't infected, it was just forging her address. Then she started worrying that she would get in trouble because "it's illegal to send out viruses."

I sincerly hope that the people who write these things get bombarded by all the stupid questions I get about them. That's one reason I'd never write a worm or a virus, because I'd have to answer all my friends and coworkers stupid questions about it.
