yeah, but as a CEO, I can be sued blind by the shareholders for passing up an opportunity to make them more money. I most likely will not be sued by handing over large piles of cash to them and telling them I I made the money without breaking any LAWS, but by being unethical. See how long they listen while counting their money.
i think this problem highlights what's mostly wrong with out system - it makes people only care about the fruit on the tree, not the ecosystem that nourished the tree.
Then on the left we have people like Murtha and Kennedy screaming that we should leave, RIGHT NOW GODDAMNIT!!! That's just insane, we can't leave the Iraqis in a worse position than we found them. That would be like walking away from a car stuck underwater with a woman trapped inside. I mean, what kind of man does that?
no it's more like pushing the car, with the woman in it, off a pier then jumping in to save the woman. And then afterwards claiming you shouldn't be responsible or charged for attempted murder for pushing her in because you jumped in to try and save her.
So the co-founder claimed to be a communist in the 1920's. You do realize that in the 30's during the great depression a majority of the united states, especially middle america, claimed to be a communist or socialist? Putting that aside, the quote isn't attributed to any source. Hey I can sit here attribute the quote "I am Marxists Poodle-Molester" to umm... George Washington.
Also, in the first bulletpointed list, it's states that the ACLU was the driving force behind the anti-Patriot Act movement. So in other words, an orginization whose sole purpose is to defend the constitution fought against a hastily crafted, emotionally charged bill which erodes the rights put forth by the constitution... and that's un-american?
Let's see, in the rest of the "article" the author seemed to be upset because the ACLU actually was protecting the rights of suspected terrorists, which by strict application of the constitution and bill of rights, should be protected. So if we define america by it's concepts, which bush does all the time (democracy and freedom for the whole world) then by definition those who are fighting to limit the rights of these individuals are the un-american folks. But I digress...
So, sorry, that propoganda-page didn't convince me. Got any more info?

sorry, I know it's OT but I gotta hear your explaination on how the ACLU, whose sole purpose is to defend the documents america was founded on (the constitution and the bill of rights), is un-american?
ok, flame suity on, but try macromedia flash as a starter.
Why? well they can draw and animate things without programming, and then they can start to learn how to code and create simple games farily quickly.
I know most people here hate flash, but I seriously think it would be a great intro for kids.
Eigenradio is one of the more original net projects around. sure, it not music. It's noise, it's annyoing, but it's REALLY freaking cool.
the reason it works is that us humans are nothing but pattern processing machines and Eigen radio is nothing but the blending of patterns. And I gotta say, this random blending of sweet sugary goodness that eigenradio spills out onto the internet like some heavenly marshmellow cream filling is the best work music there is.
Shadowlion, your post represents all that is wrong with this administrations policies on the enviroment...We may not be the cause of global warming, SO LET'S DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!
Pollution may be a contributing factor to global warming, but we aren't sure, so let's keep polluting!
Hell, even if there is a 1% chance we are a contributing cause, shouldn't we be doing something about it?
what I wonder is when some lawyer is going to take these p2p copyright cases and use the rulings to sue gun makers...
it's the same logic.. gun makers knowingly make something that CAN murder someone , so they must be liable for murder...
I agree.. If you look close up at the light, the smoke and the majority of the flash looks like it's coming from UNDERNEATH, from the direction of where the light would be downwards.. It looks to me like the huge bulb in this sucker exploded causing an overload in the CCD, and thus causing the artifact..
what's more interesting to me is the pink spot near the lower left that stays in a consistant spot in all 3 frames. (Look at the white building, the scan downwards. It's in the middle of the water.)
I think the first thing that would happen if such a merger took place would be that all the copies and references to the "big brother" superbowl commercial would somehow mysteriously disappear.
Is it just me, or does it seem we are heading to some sort of business serfdom, where the big companies will let you do business in the tech sector at their discretion. If you piss them off, then they will wield the 900 lb. hammer of patent lawsuits to take you out.
And since there is so much money invested in the patent system by the large companies, the system will remain more or less the same, with some useless legislature tacked on here and there to make it seem friendlier.
This and some other articles today reminded me of a bad 50's sci-fi book I read a while back - where the population is just seen as consumers, and it was the right of companies to exploit the consumers. The government enacted laws which forced consumerism on the population.
howdy..
I was just wondering which right-wing radio/tv talk show host you swiped those comments from.
I'm not saying you can't think for yourself, just saying I've heard this spiel before.
Us 'liberals' do hold multiple contradictions in our head. Why? because we think issues through and judge them on their own merit according to the information we have!
no, I think that part of the reason that Kerry's 3600 lawers aren't foaming at the mouth is politics.. The Dems are trying to look like the good guys so they don't alienate people and create campaign fodder for the republicans in 2008.
Is there enoguh hanky panky to change the outcome? Probably. Is there anyway to prove it? No, the electronic machine have seen to that. So what would be gained by taking this to court? A case with no evidence beyond the cirumstantial.
you know, in washington state, it doesn't matter what the people vote for. We've voted for the monrail 3 times so far. And after each time, they either a)stall the process in some comittee, or b) find another little loophole which could derail it and demand the people vote about the loophole.
ALSO, in washington the people voted against a stadium, but the thing was built anyways....
However, having things pass just by popular vote is very dangerous...
Think about it.. If you were in a voting booth, and there was a provision for a "clean air act", would you vote for it? Unless you were really up on the issues and knew that clean air act actually allowed an increase of pollution, you'd probably think that yeah, clean air is a good thing and vote for it. So now you have a bogus bill getting passed that does the opposite of what people think it is going to do.
Sorry, I trust the intellegence of my fellow citizens less than I do the morals of my elected leaders -- sad but true.

no, what made the Democrats loose the election were those damn voting machines and better propoganda.
it also helps to have a shadow organization on your side...
Although it has been said never believe in a conspiracy when incompetence and stupidity provides an explanation -- and god knows there's enough of that in the white house..
I played a few MMORPGs and CRPGs and always run into the same problem. The world is static, my actions have limited scripted outcomes or little impact on the world at large.
When you read a good book, you follow the exploits of a main character, see the world react to them and them react to the world.
When you play pen and paper RPG's you get this same sense. The DM (if he/she is good) makes you feel like you have accomplished something and the world has changed because of what you've done.
In MMORPG's you have thousands of main characters running through the same plots. (i.e. quests). The outcome is the same if I do it or if the other 9999 people do it.
So my question is, do you think it is possible to get that sense of "changing the world" of good books and RPGs in MMORPGs or are they two totally seperate beasts? Is the main goal of MMORPGs always going to be "Gotta kill the XXX boss so I can get the magic XXX so I can...uhhh....brag?"
_phloydde
Ok,
Even if your arguments are valid one thing to remember is that even if the pollution is not having an effect on global warming, it sure as the hell is on humans - think asthma rates in L.A and other smog zones.
Also think on how long term pollution is effecting the enviroment (think acid rain and polluted ground water). Now I ask, even if your argument against global warming is valid, is there still no reason to cut back on the amount of pollution we throw up into the air everyday?
The best way to win an argument is to debate on both sides.
so, basically, you're saying we have a president who never learned from past mistakes...
yeah, but as a CEO, I can be sued blind by the shareholders for passing up an opportunity to make them more money.
