Ever read articles or watch those shows about people who grew up as celebrities? Many of them had a hard time adjusting in a normal school environment because kids would treat them badly. I imagine it is out of jealousy and envy that they would do whatever it took to put the kid in his or her 'place'.

Now given how kids are at that age, I don't think it's implausible that in spite of the well-meaning sympathies of the general public OUTSIDE his school, the social environment within may have just gotten more unbearable with each wise crack he hears in the hallway.

Sure, it's some consolation to get the iPod and stuff like that, but does it change his overall image among his peers at school?

We don't know for sure, but it would be wrong to only assume that he's riding the gravy train here on out.

Are you nuts? Although they may still think he's a dork, he'll be a *famous* dork, and in modern western culture famous == successful, regardless of why. The other kids are going to be wondering if they can get similar mileage out of acting stupid in front of a camera

Please, shut the fuck up about Japan because you obviously don't have a clue as to what you are talking about.

So, the guy is generalizing just a tad. But so are you (about what he knows).

Let's not discount the intense feelings even middle-aged Koreans have towards Japan. They may not hate them, but there is some level of distrust.

Ever manage a division where you have to have your engineers in Korea work well with your engineers in Japan? It can be a managerial headache trying to keep both sides happy and working well at the same time.

The drinks, meal portions, whatever. Not surprisingly, obesity is now considered an epidemic here.

One vivid recollection is visiting Guam (a U.S. territory) while a teenager and eating at a Sizzler for the first time. To my pleasant surprise, the steaks were enormous!
