Movie theatres throw people out that use cell phones, and they don't allow people with video cameras in.

They throw people out who use them 'badly' as in disturbing others. If I have mine on vibrate and leave the movie to take the call I'm perfectly within my 'rights'(no rants on what a 'right' is in this case please...)

The video camera is banned for obvious reasons, you would be duplicating the service for which they are charging admission.

Yes that's their rule, but wildly different than airwave restrictions.

  6. Re:Call me daft if you wish... on National Do Not Call List Opens for Registrations · · Score: 1

Fair enough. I just don't see anything that requires a 'new' business to start their list with this do not call list. It says they need to check every three months. So if the check is forced on business start up fine, but it doesn't say that. So I, cynically speaking, see that as a three month free calling window.

Anyone have info to allay said cynicism?

  7. Re:Call me daft if you wish... on National Do Not Call List Opens for Registrations · · Score: 1

Why do I see a flood of Tele-Marketers in business for 2 months and 30 days?

    1. Start Business
    2. continuing annoying calls for 2 months 30 days
    3. Close down company selling list to 'new' company coincidentally with same owner.
    4. Repeat

How does this list prevent this from happening? All of the do not call, do not spam ideas involve prosecuting offenders, but not tracking down the people who aren't going to obey the rules anyway. THAT's what we really need. I know there are marginally better laws in place to stop phone bandits but it's a royal pain tracking them down.

  8. Re:It ups the potential audience size on EFF Supporting Home DVD Editing · · Score: 1

Agreed, but also the subject matter of those movies gave, I think, as much or more motivation for being 'pure' and un-edited.

I doubt an unedited public airing of Fast Times at Ridgemont High would hold water with too many people.

A side note: Schindler's List wasn't commercial free. There was a 3(?) minute intermission in the middle with a silent company logo on screen. And the advertiser...Ford. I will always remember that because it was understated and appropriate. A shame more advertisers don't get that.

Exactly. A friend of mine who is a pilot, has forgotten to turn his off a few times when he goes flying. His battery is just about gone after only an hour in the air.

No problems getting reception up to 3000 ft, but you get LOTS of extra transmissions switching from tower to tower.

Probably because I think most people have either forgotten to turn off their phones or sat next to someone who used their phone, and the flight went perfectly fine.
