The statement that the mouse is powered by RFID is a bit of a misnomer. It may be RF that transmits the mouse movement, but it is actually Inductive Coupling. The mouse pad has a coil that transfers power to a coil in the mouse using magnetic flux. This transfer of power is limited to short distances. Passive RFID uses radio frequency to transmit the power to the tag and relay the information back to the "server". I think that using inductive coupling for Mouse power is a great idea! Anything to reduce consumption of batteries that wind up in a landfill.
We have a Tivo and a Cox DVR
on
TiVo to Offer SDK

· Score: 5, Interesting
I have to say that the Tivo wins the usability contest hands down. Even though the Cox box has the ability to record two channels at once, I prefer my Tivo.
The GUI is intuitive to operate - it took my wife no time to figure it out. As for the Cox box, well we haven't even figured out how to delete a show we are watching without fast forwarding to the end - to get the "special menu".
We have a geographically diverse team from (ranging from west coast US, east coast US, South Africa and India). We use Skype for our weekly conference calls. The audio quality is much better than telco lines (most of the time).
When I saw the title about wireless charging, RF (Radio Frequency) came to mind.
Then I RTFA (Articles / Advertisements) and realized that they are in fact talking about inductive coupling.
Inductive charging cradles have been used by Sonicare® for several years to charge their cordless toothbrushes.
It pretty cool anyway!
For one thing:
The additional modules for the ISS are built and reinforced to mount into the Shuttle's payload bay. It not a standard coupling structure that can be easily replaced.
I wonder what possible technology can be used for the 800Mhz spectrum to carry cellular/pcs/what-have-you traffic other than IDEN technology.
The 800Mhz frequencies Nextel uses are the leftovers from the SMR group with channel spacing of 25Khz and are shared with Public Safety and Heavy Industrial (like utilities). It's not a clean contiguous block of spectrum like the PCS carriers have.
This must be a consolidation of companies for other reasons...
Ok, it's just a thought but...
1) Since inventors are people, how about restricting the assignee to people only.
2) Make all payments to the assignee and or inventor a matter of public record.
3) Make it illegal to withhold license of patents to individuals or corporations willing to pay more than the current maximum amount stated in public record.
(Wordy example):
So Joe Inventor creates a widget for Company Z. Joe would be the inventor and some other person is (maybe even Joe) will be the assignee. Z Company will license the ability to make widgets by paying $1000 to the assignee. The $1000 is posted as a mater of public record. Now anyone or any company can pay $1001 to the assignee and have a license to produce the widgets.
A market effect of an open auction etc..
You cannot become competitive with people who make less than minimum wage.
What is needed is "financial parity". The US dollar needs to drop in value (or foreign currency needs to gain value) until it is no longer a cost advantage for companies to outsource.
Neil wants to give up implementing.NET for MONO and dotGNU because neither project will have all the features.
I think that it is likely that Novell or ?? may pick up the pace..
May not be the best idea in the long run. As the dollar falls in value compared to foreign currencies, it will become less profitable to employ people elsewhere (India etc..) and those jobs will move back to the US.
The lighting of pictures taken in space requires an f stop setting of the camera that makes the stars invisible. Photographs taken of the Saturn don't show stars because the bright light (reflective) of Saturn requires camera settings which make the stars invisible.
It sounds like something an Ewok would say.
I can hear it screaming now...

That's a space station..
This sounds a lot like trusted computing to me...

This seems more like Message Oriented Middleware than a Database...

OK.. I had to get that one out of the way..
I wonder if we are conscious as individuals or the product of some Emergent Behavior?
Kind if gives me the creeps...

I totally agree that the HTML output of Word is horrible, but Microsoft has a HTML filter program that will remove all the "special" formatting.

IIS has a long history of problems.. They have a lot more than the RIAA to worry about.
