Just make the shell "replacable" and you got your solution...

Yes there are mechanical parts.. But just like technically you can open up a floppy disk casing, take the plastic disk out and put it in another "shell".

Of course they need to make that process practical (selling cheap empty shells, originals having maybe one or two tabs to snap off to open the shell the original disk is in)

There was originally a solution like that for CDs but I think the only ones who bough into it were the radio stations.

  10. Why the mandatory "1-"? here's why.. on 11 Digit Dialing Comes Home to New York · · Score: 1

Probably redundant, but I'm too lazy to search.

What will the mandatory "1-" allow? More area codes.

It will unlock area codes starting with "1xx"
    so that
    1-1xx-555-5555
will be a valid number and will have no chance of duplicates in new york. Just the same for "0xx"
    1-0xx-555-5555

unlocking 2 999 999 999 == 3^9 new numbers in north america, eventually, or at least in new york.

Simple effective solution, even if it's only temporary. Blame Moore's. Let's just hope he'll be wrong at some point.

Simple answer: They plan to use the 0xx and 1xx area codes in New York...

    Black CDRs are available.
The purpose of that color was to mask the amount of data that was on the CD, as previous reply pointed.

For sony, it was not a downside. It was actually a plus. I've seen some games weight 7 megs. No soundtrack. No video. Probably just a cheap port.

Just like you could not see how much memory was stored on a nes cartridge. Sega actually advertized how much memory the game took. (in megaBITS, not MB, which was an intentionnaly confusing marketting trick)
