Sometimes I wish we could go back to the days when you could just dial in to a BBS and not really worry about people watching over your shoulder as you use the internet.
I've always thought nintendo should try and make some money off of the classic gaming market by using emulators or something along that line. Instead, they have been fighting the emulation scene tooth and nail.
I would have to agree that a TI-92 or 92+ would be the way to go, but as far as a programming language on it, you'd better learn some assembly or you'll be stuck using TI-BASIC.
As long as you keep the laptop/pc below deck, and not right out in the elements, you should be able to expect a life of about 4 years. My cousin captains a cargo freighter that sails from Chicago to England, and had asked me, in 1998, to help him find a rugged PC.
Well, we ended up going with a dell laptop due to the fact that he only needed it for e-mail, wordprocessing, and spreadsheets. After 4 years, it's still running fine, with no visible corosion on any metal. Last month we upgraded the hard drive in it, and everthing still looked fine.
If you do go, as so many of the/.ers have suggested, and fire the incompetant programmers, make sure you have documented that their incompetance in their employee file. This is to cover your own ass and prove that they really did "suck". If you have no documentation of the incompetence, and they decide to sue, remember, it's your word against theirs that they were derilect in their duties.
The closest thing to a serious american animated film I can think of would be Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal 2000. And those were stoner movies, more or less.
The cross platform computing structure is already there, in the form of the 802.11 specification. Mac, PC, etc. all have 802.11 cards manufactured for them, and can use it like the ethernet protocol it is.
I'm afraid your math is off by quite a lot. If 2% of the entire world uses linux, then 12 Million people would be using it according to your world population statistic of 6 Billion.
Aproxamatly 1/10 of all the books in the Library of Congress would fit on one of these discs. Total size of the Library of Congress is estimated to be about 10.5 Terabytes
Tom Bombadil would destroy the pacing of the movie, because in the movie, they present a frantic feeling of fleeing from the ringwraiths, and having to stop and spend the night with tom and goldberry(?) would have taken a good 10 minutes during which the action would have disapeared entirely.
The Barrow wights (spelling ?) - hello ! - this is where Frodo gets his freaking sword from -
Actually, Frodo obtained sting from Bilbo while in Rivendell, and the first sword is of no real consequence to the story, other than to set up for Tom Bombadil.
You must keep in mind that the whole Tom Bombadil side-story was written when the FotR was still considered to be a children's book and a sequel to the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein. In the house of Tom Bombadil was meant to be a momentary diversion, and because of that, Tom does not have any real back story, and is totally irrelevent to the over Lord of the Rings tale.
I have seen copies of Mandrake being sold at my local walmart for almost two years now. It appears that they have finally taken a step forword and working more to introduce linux to the masses.
Funny, those apple.com/switch comercials sure don't make those mac user seem either incredibly intelligent or unbiased. If apple really wanted us to switch they should show some of these people that are more intelligent in their avertisements.
"It's a world where Senators and Representatives grant "emergency power" to the executive branch, which the executive branch promises to return to the Senators and Representatives as soon as the current crisis is over. (But, of course, the executive never does return that power.)"
Try the Roman Republic. This was a reference to when Julius Cesaer refused to give up the powers of dictator to the Roman senate.
We have had very successful gaming times at my school, the TBA CTC. The only restriction we have had has been making us use headphones. (Those with 300 watt amps just to play counter-strike ruined it for us all. The neighbors called the cops to make us turn it down.)
But pong? I like watching and playing video games too, but pong is just... pong. It's bland. As in not interesting. Gimme a story, or at least some color!
When the government steps in like this, we should begin to consider the internet access they are offering to be more of a public utility than just a general service. To begin with, this would have the potential to lower prices, increase uptime and public meetings if any real changes in service are going to take place.
Public meetings are already required (in most states) if the electric company wishes to increase rates, or if there will be a loss of service for an extended period of time. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to express your opinion about where the city should increase rates by five dollars if the bandwidth increase is only 128Kbps? If anything, this would allow for more public control over the internet, and how much we pay to recieve it.
Internet Explorer has run a redirect through Microsoft's site since at least version 5.0. They claim it is to inform you of "Product Updates", but they still get to see where you were trying to go.
Lik-Sang is still the only place where I can find those stupid nintendo proprietary screwdrivers.

It has been my experience that the C compilers for the 92 and 89 turn out some VERY badly optimized code, making it not worth my time to use them.

Aren't we just DDoSing them by posting the website on slashdot? hehe, DoSing being protected by the 1st amendment.

6000000000*.02=12000000

Because Flash and shockwave are slow, not designed for network play, and have poor sound in comparison.

Solicit donations and tell the politician's you will give $$$ for their campaign. This is about as high a level as most politicians can get to.
Wonder what would happen to this machine in U.S. and Europe.
All those 1337 hardware hackers would find a way to bypass the coin-op and just toss in 2 cd's for a (nearly) free copy.
KDE is a major memory hog. I personally run FluxBox. No comparison on speed.

Doesn't just using a product made by apple create bad press?
