No. Word is that Jobs named it Apple because of the fond memories he had working in an apple orchard in Washington (I think it was Washington) That is what I read somewhere anyway. Fire in the Valley maybe? Take that for what it is worth.
With the RBOCs getting on board with VOIP you will see this happen with all the US telcos. There is talk about pair bonding in the works for DSL which will provide 26 meg in the next year or so. My ISP has 6 meg now. With those speed increases, VOIP and IPTV (we shall see) become viable and the need for regular DSL (with the clothes on) will no longer be needed. I know that in the eyes of the consumer that time has passed. However it is a big move when the phone companies see it as well.
You must work for Microsoft. "Look how fast it boots! We are number one!" I would say that Microsoft zealots should care more about security and stability. If Windows cannot match Linux in security and stability, then it does not deserve to become a major desktop OS.
Also to clarify...I have no problem in paying a subscription, I just think $15 is crossing the line. Now if they gave the game itself away for free and then charged you $15 a month, I'd be okay with that as well.
So what you are saying is you don't mind paying 15 dollars a month if you get a 50 dollar game for free. To me you are not saving yourself a whole lot of money. You get about 3 months free and then what? Would you be ok then if you bought the game and got 3 months free instead of one? Even if you are, your position must be based on some sort of principle of yours and not money because it doesn't add up.
Either you only plan to play 3 months
or you have to feel like you are getting something for free.
I don't understand how a 50 dollar credit will ofset your expense in the long run.
$10,000 for a server? If you can't build a bad ass server for under $3000 you must of gotten a Dell [slashdot.org];)
This coupled with the fact that you were off by way more than 3 times. Like one of the other posts said, it really is frustrating to hear people talk about their 'l33t' "servers" they made with 3k and trying to put them up against real world high end equipment. You might as well compare a Ferrari kit car with the real thing.
But hey..no such thing as bad press, I saw your art out of it. I would estimate that a quarter of a million people followed your website link. Even if I was off by 3 times that is still a lot of looks... eh?
You do understand (in response to your journal entry) that these comments have nothing to do with Blizzard but instead are about your narrow view of enterpise level hardware and the inability for your 3k dollar dual opteron machine to handle much load in the real world. If what you said was really true these companies would only buy dual opteron machines with off the shelf parts to increase profits by cutting costs. But they know they need the likes of HP, IBM, Sun etc to proovide the hardware (and software sometimes) along with replacement support.
The way I look at it you only have one life to live. That's it. Born, live, die. I'd rather have an impact [positive] on people then just be a consumer.
Very noble, please start by shutting up. BTW e.g. is Latin for exempli gratia, which means "for example". You wanted to use id est or i.e. which means "in other words".
No, I'd say the worst thing about it is the fact that I haven't been able to play it because of server outages and 39MB-over-6-hour patch downloads.
I went from lvl 1 to 21 in less than a week (hey holiday free time). I did not see these server outages. I have had my world crash once or twice a day but it is back up within 5 minutes. Oh and you can direct download the patches. Took me a few minutes.
The best thing about this game is nothing is a chore. I enjoy it and I have played just about all the MMORPGs of late. But hey, that is me.
Snowballs. Yeah, I remember that upgrade patch. There were so many snowballs flying around in the game that the servers couldn't keep track of all the projectiles and the whole game went down hard.
This idea had to have come from management.
You make it sound like it was so long ago. It was less than a week.
I am not employed by Tapwave but I do own a Zodiac2 and I must say it is the best PDA I have ever owned (Palm VII, iPAQ, Sidekick (does that count?) I do miss my Newton though. I find that the screen size and control layout are perfect for everything I use it for, especially reading ebooks. The Tapwave mods to the PalmOS GUI are great.
Since you work for Tapwave I like to mention two minor issues. I know this may not be part of your job and these things have been said elsewhere but... The the sync cable connector could use some work. Doesn't click in and stay connected well. The shoulder buttons could give a little more tactile feedback.
I have it loaded on my computer. I have the first two bits they are 0 and 1 now I am just waiting on them to allow me to unlock the rest.
Waiting.... Waiting.... Anyone have a snickers?
The guy admitted in a cnet interview that he did NOT tell AT&T for fear of them coming after him. link
If you get an IM from jewishclown57@aol.com, that is totally legit.
Do "newbs" know what HAL or curses are
Yes they do Dave. Would you like to hear me sing a song?
What? Is that wrong?
NOOOO He is Mexican. He was born a few kilometers away.
I also think that any contract that does violate the law is null and void.

The RBOCs are rolling out their own VoIP solutions.

Especially the 64bit binaries. Way faster than the Windows 64bit...oh wait...haha there isn't one.
Is like beating a dead horse.

I guess you don't remember the CGA PC game: Noid!
You sir are correct. I wish I had mod points. Hell I wish I had karma.
