Damn, what is this naive "they can't enforce any ruling, free markets yeah!!!" thing all over these comments? Don't you guys know shit about global (free) trade?
That all the major trading partners of China have gone to the WTO, an unprecedented event, it means that a ruling (which will clearly be against China) will mean that a number of Chinese export industries get hit with tariffs at a level sufficient to redress the perceived losses. And considering the impact such REM restrictions have all the way down high-tech manufacturing chains it won't be a small sum.
And yes, this _IS_ free markets, free markets where some things like military and high-tech trade can be limited. However other things are not allowed to be restricted, cause that's what collectively got agreed upon by the people who compromise the free market. Add some quotes to 'free market' if it doesn't fit your ideologically pure interpretation.
Also, China will be fucked even more if the same group decides to go to the WTO over the weak Yuan. The rest of the world will obviously also be fucked, but they might decide they're less fucked than status quo.
I've never really used magnet links that much so there's bound to be some issues, however due to the TPB change I'll be looking closer at that code in the near future. There's seems to be some magnet links that aren't supported properly...
In any case please do realize that there's no 'they' in rtorrent, at the best I had one guy sending me patches for DHT support and various other stuff. Pretty much a one man project, so I'll mainly be focusing on stuff certain users pay me to implement.
I haven't read the summary yet, but why wouldn't race be important when hiring someone to lead our 100 year starship project?
The project leader will likely have important duties when we meet some alien race out there, and thus who we hired for the job will matter a lot. Imagine if we head towards a sector with aliens who have been in conflict with our project leader for millennia? That's going to cause all kinds of issues.
If they are excessive... How come Germany and the rest of Norther Europe is doing so damn well?
One of the secrets is the universal health care and other social programs, which in fact reduce the overall cost of employment in society by making employees more efficient and cutting out parasites like health insurance companies. (Healthcare cost is 6-8% versus 17% in the US, and there's no 'insurance' companies taking 30% cut in pure profits out of healthcare spending)
Actually it isn't good advice; there's nothing 'good' about a telling a young person not to ask advice on life choices. The roads in life are not just simple 'engineering problems', since they are more often solved through experience rather than analysis by an inexperienced person.
For one thing those with experience can tell you when you're asking the wrong question, which is not that easy to deduce through analytical reasoning.
E.g. the 5 hour radius limit is stupid, studying far from home is not a disadvantage. Hell, a stint abroad is definitely strongly recommended, not just for academic but life experience reasons. Also don't study something because you want to get into a company, study it because you love what you are doing and going to bed feels like a waste. (to the point where your personal projects end up competing for time with your 'real' schoolwork)
You don't get into a place like SpaceX by wanting to work on spaceships, and then studying the right things. You get in by being exceptionally good at some skill they need, and to become exceptionally good at something you need to spend countless hours honing your skills, and only way you will be able to do that is if you like doing it. So don't fret that much about how to gain useful skills, instead do interesting stuff and the threads will connect in surprising ways.
You think they were the first ones?... You are still very very delusional and should avoid taking part in any major decisions in life, including what breakfast cereal to buy. Leave that to mom.
It is quite interesting, that the Norwegian special forces (consistently coming first in international competitions, and have extensive experience with operations in mountainous terrain) are one of the few forces in operating in Afghanistan that have a 'red card'. Basically they can veto their participation in any operation if they don't agree with some aspect.
There's a story of them using this red card during the planning of a joint operation with US special forces to take out a hilltop fortification, where the US wanted to fly in with helicopters. The Norwegians refused as it was too dangerous (as the above link makes clear, getting shot down can easily happen), and instead demanded they'd be dropped off more than 5 kilometers away.
So that's what happened, they were dropped off unnoticed and with minimal rations and water, then made the trek. By the time they arrived the US special forces were exhausted but the Norwegians were completely fine. While the US special forces spend a lot of time in the gym, Norwegian forces spend a lot of time walking in mountainous terrain. (which is a rather Norwegian train that even Swedish people find strange)
Alan Turing, Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage were also imperfect... Was his genius less just because it didn't involve math and programming, but 'mere' usability and style?
You need to re-think your notion of "murder." Murder was Awlaki's history, and stated purpose. Stopping him is not murder.
For people who actually know something about his history, torture is what dominate's Awlaki's history, not murder. Before he was tortured for year and a half in the presence of CIA he was just a conservative imam.
After the torture he, quite reasonably, came to the conclusion that the US was a bad influence on Yemen.
The whole idea of any kind of decent performing game running on a browser is just braindead... The problem the author seems to want to solve aren't actually problems, e.g. scripting for compatibility across platforms isn't the way to go. You want to have game platforms that allow for easy cross-compilation and distribution, and the install size really should be solved by just-in-time download of media-assets.
E.g. EVE Online will soon be replacing the current limited selection of backgrounds with pre-rendered nebulas and other super-structures, with each star-system (or cluster of) having backgrounds rendered according to their position in space. This means that since most people only really ever fly through a small portion of all available systems, they don't need to have the high-res (or uber-high-res) versions of those.
So you could probably get away with just distributing a very low-res version, same goes for other assets such as ship textures, etc.
Except China did not cut back on supply, they cut back on exports.
/. retards today? It's like you guys don't even understand the basics of free trade and what this case is about.
Damn, are _ALL_ posters (almost) on
WTO rulings are enforced through trade tariffs.

Norwegians hate God back.
(Highest number of atheist and non-religious in Europe, plus we burn churches for sport)
I've added flattr to my email and github account.
Haven't tested it nor do I really have much exposure to that avenue of donations.
The latest version (to be released soon) will be much more aggressive at contacting trackers, so the dead tracker issue is gone.
There's several seedbox providers these days that will help you get around those blocks. (And keep your IP safe from lawsuits)

Doesn't Australia have bandwidth caps worthy of a fascist state?

Desertec is a really cool concept, now possible thanks the the arab spring.
Never try to learn Japanese or any other context-sensitive languages, you'd be completely lost.

The religious leaders of al-Qaeda have gone over the holy texts, and also come to the conclusion that it is ok to kill Americans. What's your point?
You need to re-think your notion of "murder." Murder was Awlaki's history, and stated purpose. Stopping him is not murder.

Yes, we all know how easy it is to twist language to fit one's own personal agenda.
Exactly how... did a space shuttle from the 80's give 30 years of R&D that matched the money poured into it?
Well DUH! what? You spend your minutes when other people call you?
If they want to talk to you then it's they who should be paying, right?... At least that is how it is in any sane country.
This isn't like a 'new model', more like the switch from gasoline to electric car production.

So Apple is about selling to hype, yet doesn't rest on their laurels and aren't afraid of replacing successful products with new ones?
Exactly how is that 'selling to hype'? Seems to me people are choosing products from a company that knows how to make good products.
Yes, and you'd also think a truck from the 1960's that has more horsepower than a (slightly less powerful) modern truck, right?
It's not like nothing else changed but the power of the engine...
