I'm using Windows. In fact I'm using Windows XP RC1 and 2 and I still won't use IE in any version of Windows unless some site makes me use it for some function (some webphone sites for example.)
I use Opera. And now I'm spoiled. I can't use IE without getting upset. It's much slower in any respect to Opera.
I find the gesture motions in Opera very intuitive and use them all the time. Now I use explorer or IE and I'm always trying to use gestures... I frown and remember I'm not using opera...

I agree that the old MDI way they used kind of sucked.
But they've enhanced and made thing better in my opinion. As an example: you used to have to have all windows maximized if you maximized one window. This has the nasty effect of having pop up windows taking up the full screen and blocking everything.
Now they've fixed this and everything is independant. I can have some windows one size, some others full size, some minimized, etc. With these changes I've changed my mind and actually like the MDI model.
Check it out if you used it once and didn't like it the first time. I think it's much better now.
They will have a direct income with a known number of subscribers. Instead of what we have now with Wine, there will actually be numbers that show how many people are interested in gaming in Linux.
I for one will sign up as a subscriber, and have already filled out their subscription survey and I urge anyone else that loves games and Linux to do the same. I've decided to back my loving words for Linux and Linux gaming with my money. And I'm doing this because I'll be helping Linux, Linux gaming, and a good company that is going to release everything back to the Wine project.
Offtopic? This is a legit question that I've never seen answered to my satisfaction. Must I ask slashdot for answer? Because God forbid I ask this in a Perl story's comments.
Yes I am running final, not beta 3, not RC1.. final. I spent plenty of time downloading and installing it to know that I have final, thank you. You call my post uninformed then you insult my intelligence.
And to answer you 'what crashes' question. Well just about everything. That includes kernel panics, X crashing and Konqueror.
My X font server dies a terrible death also.
And what I meant by my first line is -- just because everything works for *you* does not meant that it works for everyone!
I am not alone. My friend has almost the identical problems.. and many more that I didn't write about.
My complaint was and is that people testing and reviewing seem to use some stable settings and rarely dip their toes in into the expert install, and really muck things up.
I for one detest the default recommended settings (another thing I think should be worked on), and must go in play with everything in expert mode.. I wish I didn't have to, but I do.
Stop trying to praise MandrakeSoft everyone and *try* to break things. If you can do it, someone actually will in practice.
I recently download Opera 5.11 in all of it's gesture glory.
I must say that I'm really impressed and don't find it difficult at all to use the mouse. It took me a day I'd say to get the perfect feel so that I do the correct gesture with the minimal effort required.
I think people who don't like mice aren't going to like using the mouse... for gestures or otherwise. So listen up to anyone that was swayed by the article author -- the mouse works fine... just give it a shot.
And of course a pen will work wonders too. I have one but most people don't (should change, they're awesome!) but I think a glove would let us express the most gestures... heh heh no puns.;)
I don't know.. maybe I'm just a post 8 bit nes, power glove dreaming child stuck in this adult body.
To begin, I can't update rpmdrake so I can't fix any of the problems. Any sites I add vanish the next time the program reloads. I've notices others complaining about this too. In fact I'm having many, many problems with 8.0 final. For example, unlike the last beta, I find that the final is less stable than even MS-Windows 9x! The stupid thing crashes on me 6 or more times a day! Various other problems with stability and graphics glitches when switching between X and console are annoying too. Anti-aliasing fonts *do not work* for me anymore with final. This blows and I'm not sure why this is.
My friend and I have both installed 8final and have the same problems. It makes me mad that all the reviews rave over the mighty wonders of Mandrake 8. I think it has something to do with non recom. install. I like to go in and actually know what I'm installing, but Mandrake 8 final seems to be broken terribly because of this.
I think it's sad when a beta is more useful and stable than a final release and I was hoping this wouldn't happen with Mandrake 8. To be honest, this was rushed. I don't know why they release finals so fast but Mandrake-Soft has to take a deep breath and learn something from other software developers... even Microsoft.
I'm running a beta of Windows XP right now because *it* is much more stable and usable than my mandrake partition. That's just crazy..
We need better QA.. and much longer beta, rc cycles.
I'm dissapointed.
When I took my C class, we were made to use Borland Turbo C. We couldn't use even turbo c++ let alone vi and gcc.
Now they require ms studio for all programs and they mean require. I've asked... not all schools or classes are as open to variance as yours. Nope it's a MS world now in my school... slowly killing every unix server / application we've got.
This is a classic logical fallacy. It says nothing about the subject but rather that the rules for logic used in this predicate are wrong.
Take for example Russel's Paradox: "Most sets are not elements of themselves. For instance, the set of all integers is not an integer and the set of all horses is not a horse. However some sets are elements of themselves. For instance, the set of all abstract ideas is an abstract idea. Let S be the set of all sets that are not elements of themselves. Is S an element of itself? The answer is neither yes or no. For is S is an element of S, then S satisfies the defining property for S, and hence S is not an element within S. But if S is not an element within S, then S is a set such that S is not an element within S and so S satisfies the defining property for S, which implies that S is an element of S. Thus neither "S is an element of S" nor is "S is not an element within S" is true, which is a contradiction." (Discrete Math. with Applications by Susanna Epp)
An example of this contradiction is summarized by the following: Say we have some barber in some town that shaves all people in the town that don't shave themselves. Does he shave himself? Think about this for a second and you'll see it's built upon the same logical principles as the omnipotent god statement.
There are several ways to avoid this contradiction. One such way requires that, except for the power set whose existence is guaranteed by an axiom, whenever a set is defined using a predicate as a defining property, the stipulation must also be made that the set is a subset of a known set. Thus by needed contraints of logic, the omnipotence statement used by many to either confuse religious people, contradict their beliefs, or reinforce your beliefs of a non-omnipotent God -- is not even a valid logical argument in any sort of way.
If anything you've proven that Man is not omnipotent...nothing about any God that may or may not exist.
Alright I'm going to shut up now or I'm gonna go way out there...hehehe
I agree :-)
Opera for Windows rocks. It's super fast loading... and going forward and back between pages is quick as light.
And I also am a devotee to the Opera gesture way of life.
Sounds like a rave to me... lol
But your missing something. In America we don't like to actually solve problems... only fix symptoms...
