There is no such a things as animal pound being different from the city or private. There is only the regional animal pound, and they never come to you if you complain about an animal. You have to talk to the police which might decide to directly call the pound, and THEN you get fined. But privately owned animal shelters or orgs cannot take an animal even if there is a complaint. That has to go to formal ways to the local PD.

"Responsible pet ownership includes not letting pets run free in an urban environment."
that can be discussed. I tend to think the same, but some value giving more freedom to the pet, to the possible cost of death.

"... and how do they accomplish this magic trick? Did they give the cat a cell phone so they can consult their GPS? :-) It's hard enough getting kids to come home on time."
From all I cat I got : the force of habits, and making it responsive to food calls. Granted it does not happen 100% of the time, and at least once every two month I had some of my cats come back in the morning, but for the huge majority of the time : yeah. Kids are far more block headed than cats or animals, animals can be trained a bit, whereas in my limited experience kids intentionally disobey you for the kick out of it. None of my cats died of car incident BTW, two died of cancer at 12+, another one died of cardiac problem at 8+, the two other are alive and kicking. That is 30+ years of cat history.

The animal pound usually do not pick up cat with a tatoo in the ear, or when they do they contact the person to which it is registered. Lately they even have programs with those chips, but I prefer a visible tatoo. What you have at the pound are most probably either stray cat, or abandoned animals, and that happen all too often with cats and dogs (neat and nice while small, and once they reach 1 year old or the next summer holiday, left over the side of the road, I wish I could have a few word with people doing that type of shit). Most people which have cat I know of, try to get their cat to come back home in the evening. So again yowling cat outside are most probably not a home cat. As for killing birds, well you realize that cats in the wild DO eat birds, rodent and various small animals, right ?

That is not a given. that would only be a given , if there was no contraception. Letme give you a scenario : beautfiul women might want to avoid pregnancy more often than ugly dwarf as you so tactfully put. So they use more often contraception to keep their "beauty" longer, OTOH ugly dwarf would not care on pregnancy making them fat (or at least would not care as much). That could be a scenario, and it would be interresting to see if they took into account societal pressure in the "why" women are getting heavier in average. Also in some country "ideal" women are definitively far heavier than the skeleton ralf lauren and co present us, and that many western women try to imitate. If in those country the women reproduce more in average, then the statistic above, on the whole world, WILL lead to heavier women in average, if not by the sheer number of "lighter" women not reproducing as much in other country.

Mind you I have not read the article so I dunno if they took that into account or not.

Finally evolution is only linked to what facilitate gene to be given to offspring in a aprticular environment. It does not say that the environment must be natural or artificial, or even purely psychologic (societal). Our modern society changed that environment , and allowed other weaker offspring to be born, but this is only a NEW environment with different constraint. Thus human still evolve. Human would stop evolving is *ALL* environmental constraint were removed, and we ALL had the same number of kids and everybody reproduced the same number of kid (all women and men) since this is obviously NOT true, some selection will happen.

Despite good reviews, a lot of them ended up being utter crap, or with a lot of bugs. So I started "pirating" them game to check them up, then if they were crap I would not buy them. But nowadays ANOTHER problem has cropped up. The game is very very very short. So while I try the game I already finish it in the afternoon. Should I buy it since I enjoyed it up to the end ? Yes I should. But I do not. And usually there are no demo or the demo come LATER. So in a way I am depriving of my money a few software developper and it is not justifiable. But OTOH pirating to get a demo, *IS* justifiable, it avoided me a lot , and I mean a LOT of stinkers. Nowadays i do not even need to pirate. i jsut rent the game (it is in gray zone here around). And i buy on regular basis the game when I like them. I even bought some game which were not findable for more money than the publisher originally asked for, (5-10 euro more) after trying the game and not finding it easily. one such example was Okami, after I tried it at the videothek. So no, it is not only black and white.

A final word : sicne i started renting game / pirating them my disposable income directed toward the game industry has increased. Because now that I know that what I will buy is GOOD, I buy witghout a remorse. Earlier I got stinged so much that I hesitated or even pushed a sale for later. Not to be burned again. So pirating/renting has allowed the game indsutry to make MORE money from me, even if actually some of the stuff I tryed would be coutned as LOST SALE due to piratery at high sea.

Nope. To reach the nearest solar system within a lifetime (80 years) and brake to it, you would have to have an acceleration, deceleration and speed such as it make the 4 light year distance within 80 years. Let us imagine this is a 1 kg probe, accelerating at a reasonable 1g constantly, go toward the system, then decelerate at 1g constantly. To make those 4 LY in less than 80 years, you will need to have at least a speed of 5% light speed (5% light speed, so 1 LY take 20 years, 4 LY take 80 years). 5% light speed is 1,5e7 meter.second-1. So you will need to accelerate at 1g over : 1,5e7seconds or over 1/2 year and decelerate over 1/2 years. I will spare you the number of megajoule needed for this, and the fact the reactor will add weight, and so the calculation is far more complex, I am pretty sure we haven't anything technology wise to reach such acceleration over such time.

From the above you can see that before your probe can survey such a system, it will take much much more than a life time to even REACH the nearest system. And that was a very small probe.
