    And when you take into account the vast amount of tab control you have in FF when you have 'Tabbrowser Extensions' installed, no way is IE going to approach that level of functionality.

    But when you install IE Tab Extensions, it has the same level of functionality as Firefox with Tabbrowswer. WTF? Let's compare vanilla installs of IE to Firefox, here. Anything is possible with add-ons.

    Reminds me of Michael Crichton's aliens cause global warming lecture.

    Bascially he says the science behind global warming is dubious at best and has allowed us to get to where we are without scientific proof.

    Your argument is different. You're saying either use this device or don't use this device. I'm saying use it one way which kills people and a different way which doesn't kill people.

    Back to your argument: if you had two cars, one which got you from point A to B killing people, and the other which killed no one, the no-killing version is better.

    Oddly, it's more expensive to execute criminals than it is to incarcerate them for life. See this from Indiana:

    Total cost of Indiana's death penalty is 38% greater than the total cost of life without parole sentences. A study by Indiana's Criminal Law Study Commission found this to be true, assuming that 20% of death sentences are overturned and resentenced to life. (Indiana Criminal Law Study Commission, January 10, 2002)

    until we can have airplanes that never crash and kill innocent people, under any circumstances, we cannot consider civillian air travel.

    What if you had a choice between an aircraft which killed innocent people and one didn't kill innocent people? Would you choose the non-killing version? I bet so.

    Your justice system, too, can be that non-killing version. Simply ban the death penalty. It's a choice we have.

    They are circumstances, things which are by definition not under your control.

    You're right, so why bother planning for them or thinking about them? Try to go for option #1: get good at anything and if you lose your job, then find another.

    And if you don't want the 17" CRT, you get a $80 discount putting you $30 ahead. Also, the system has a 80 gig drive, which would cost an extra $50 on the mac. I agree the software bundle is much better on the mac.

    He's running a software company producing bug tracking software, one of dozens such systems.
    He's also a published author of two books and cited in many others. I think that's a fine place to be.

    Yeah, cuz U2 can't sell a new album without some gimmick to promote it. They have such a poor fan base, and most of their albums have been crap, after all. Please. If they put it on ITMS *without* any other explanation, it'd have the same affect on sales: positive.

    Firstly, I've only traveled to Europe, so I can only compare to my experiences there. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Outside the US, it's impossible to get the attention of the server, they rarely accomodate special requests, and there's no ice! :) I agree that outside the major cities, the friendliness increases, but every single service I purchase in the US (hotels, meals, air travel) blows Europe away. I think it could all be a cultrual barrier. Locals, or at least non-foreigners, will get better treatment.

    Good point, but by your logic, shouldn't xboxes in 30 years be like cars of today? If the experience with the thing (car, technology) when you're growing up decides how open you want to make it, when people who grew up with IT are in congress (starting to happening now), they should make IT more open.

    Have you tried searching, though? Google pulls back more (quantity adn accuracy) than Gigablast for the same terms. For example, search for "larry wall interview" and get 77,300 vs 9,759 . I'm certainly not saying Google doesn't have its share of problems (seems to steadily be declining in quality). And I do like the categories/tags that Gigablast provides, but overall quality I'll give to Google.

    That's the double-edged sword that is the trade secret. Legal protection only lasts as long as you keep it a secret. So, once it's out, it's out. They could still claim copyright infringement on verbatim coping, but not derivative works.

    For an excellent example of this, check out css Zen Garden. I was astonished by the different renderings of the same content with stylesheets changes only. I never fully understood the hoopla about CSS until playing around with this site.

    Let's compare this 2-seater, no trunk sports car to a modern sportbike, which doesn't sacrifice comfort for performance (like the Honda VFR).

    The tzero does 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The VFR will do it in 3.0 seconds

    It also has a limited range of 280 to 300 miles at 60 mph on a single charge. I get about 200 miles at 75+.

    The company expects a price somewhere between a Porsche and a Ferrari, but Forbes says it carries a $220,000 sticker price. The VFR was $11,000 new, out the door, all taxes, fees, and other California bullshit included.

    Now if this were a useful car, something with 4 doors and a trunk and a roof, I'd be impressed.

    I can understand why Apple decided to release their service as a Mac-only affair for the first couple of months...

    I can't. Why didn't they do the Windows version first? Apple has, as others noticed, left the market wide open to someone doing exactly what Dell is doing: the iPod for Windows. Had Apple started with Windows, they'd have that market. Even if someone went into the Mac market while Apple was still developing their product, they'd certainly switch to the Apple offering the moment it was availalble.

    The same cannot be said for switching off Dell's service once the iTunes for Windows is availalble. I think Apple screwed up once again.

    You've got to understand how the system works. The same people (or system) that collects email addresses won't be the ones to send it. Consumer/producer model.

    I'm sure your now addresses have been harvested by a number of systems already. You'll have to wait, though for a client to buy a list, or another wave of mailings to go out before one is sent to you.
