  1. Here's another one Money Magazine! on Why iPod Can't Save Apple · · Score: 1

In the article, the author says he only found one person who bought an Apple computer due to his positive experience with the iPod... well, honestly, I bought my Power Mac G5 because my iPod opened up my eyes to Apple's engineering and such.

  2. Iraq War on Comcast Wants To Buy Disney For $66 Billion · · Score: 1

Is there anyway we could get Comcast to pay for the Iraq war? 60 billion dollars would go a long way.... ;-)

  7. Incompetent Louisiana Officials on Louisiana Tries Anti-Spam Law · · Score: 2, Funny

As someone who spent a great many years living in Louisiana and following/participating in Louisiana politics, I know for a fact that the officials of the "great state of Louisiana" are quite incompetent. After all, we have the 2nd worst roads in the nation and the 2nd worst education system in the nation (thank god for Mississippi!).

  8. Unlike Arnett.... on War Game To Use Troop-Filmed DoD Footage · · Score: 1

While I don't support Geraldo, he was not fired like Peter Arnett. Geraldo was temporarily kicked out of the action, but returned shortly after the military determined nobody could possibly make any sense out of what he wrote in the sand.

  9. Older folks & updates on LovSan Clone Let Loose · · Score: 1

It has been my experience that older computer users (such as my mom & dad, who are in their 50s) do not like installing automatic updates from Microsoft (keep in mind, the update was labeled as critical so it was delivered automatically) because they believe it'll mess up their system. I believe this, and lazy sysadmins, are the reasons why worms like this propagate so quickly.

  10. The Lt. Governor could've been governor on Ask the 'Geek Candidate' for California Governor · · Score: 1

Cruz Bustamante (sp?) had the opportunity to become Governor as the Lt. Governor. From what I understand, under the California constitution, he had the option to take Davis' place if he was recalled. But, seeing as how most political analysts called it suicide and how the democrats were behind Gray Davis at the time, he decided to allow the election (part 2 of the recall ballot) take place. I'm no lawyer, though.

  11. Re:What part of illegal don't you understand? on Ask the 'Geek Candidate' for California Governor · · Score: 1

Uh... no. There is nothing in the constitution that limits the power of Congress to restrict the immigration of persons. Just because John Adams said that if you're here, you're a citizen doesn't mean its law. Times change, and when the great immigration of the 1900s began, we had to start limiting immigration.

  14. Re:No... on Former Intel Engineer Pleads Guilty To Taliban Aid · · Score: 1

Unfortantely for you, the Taliban and Mujahiddin are two seperate groups. While the Mujahiddin may have included Taliban members, it was the Taliban that ousted the government made up of Mujahiddin fighters in 1995. Sorry. No cookie for you.

  15. You've got Twisted History... on Former Intel Engineer Pleads Guilty To Taliban Aid · · Score: 4, Interesting

Actually, if you know your history, it wasn't the Taliban that emerged out of the CIA-backed resistance. Afghanistan stood on its own for a few years after the Soviets were expelled... but a civil war broke out in 1990, I believe. The Taliban didn't emerge until 1995!!

  16. Here's your explanation... on Former Intel Engineer Pleads Guilty To Taliban Aid · · Score: 1

Unlike Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, etc., the Taliban knowingly harbored and supported terrorists. When we told them to hand over Osama bin Laden, they flat out refused. The Taliban regime knowingly (key word) supported al-Qaeda. Now, some can say the same about Saudi Arabia, but the Saudis aren't publically defying us (they claim they're fighting terrorists, etc, and they're handing suspects over to us)... although, this doesn't necessarily mean the Saudis aren't our enemies (I, personally, believe they should be considered an enemy of the United States).

  19. Michael Jackson? on The RIAA Hit List - A Pattern Emerges? · · Score: 2

Didn't Michael Jackson just say he was against the RIAA filing these lawsuits? Seems like the RIAA isn't listening to him, 'cause 8 songs of his are on the list...

  20. The DRM on BuyMusic's music is essentially useless on DirectX Flaw Leaves Windows Vulnerable · · Score: 2, Interesting

OK, I'll admit - I bought a CD off of buymusic.com (specifically "Gutterflower" by the Goo Goo Dolls) and downloaded the protected WMA files. Most licenses on BuyMusic.com allow you to burn the music to an audio CD a few times (mine allowed for up to 3 burns). So, I burned the album to a standard Audio CD... and then I figured, well, lets try ripping them in CDex and making them MP3s. Worked perfectly - no distortion or loss in sound quality. Time to share these bitches on Kazaa. :-P

  22. Re:You said it! on USS Ronald Reagan Commissioning Tomorrow · · Score: 1

The democrats were in control of the House the entire time Reagan was in office, while the dems were in control of the Senate for the last two years. Considering that the Congress has more control over the budget than the President, I'd say you're mistaken on who put this country in debt. It was those "fiscally responsible" (sarcasm) Democrats.

  23. Re:I wonder on USS Ronald Reagan Commissioning Tomorrow · · Score: 1

Consider this - when Jimmy Carter, probably one of our worst presidents of all time & the president before Reagan, was in office, my parents got a mortgage at nearly 15%. When my parents moved to Texas shortly after Ronald Reagan left office, they were able to get a mortgage at considerably lower rates. Now, we're getting ready to move again, and the folks were able to get a mortgage at 4.8%.

I'd say we're quite well off, thank you.
