  1. Re:Or you can make a crappy half-assed games site on IGN Talks Games Industry Salaries · · Score: 1

I made themfb.com (now themfb.net) back in the day, it was very well thought out. But there is no reason to even bother anymore. Sure you can do a lot better job content wise than the big guys, but when someone goes to google and types in mechwarrior or whatnot, they are going to get the super mega dupe sites that are low on content, high on reg fees, but look really fancy!

The only site that I still know of thats completeley fan run that gets almost all traffic for the game is www.mektek.net which NEARLY owns the mechawarrior online community with a small bit in other sites.

I helped that site come to being, and I am still glad it hasnt let itself get bought out. Gamespy made a big bid for all their IP, and luckily they didnt cave and they are better for it.

The media player? You can find a media player specifically tailored to your tastes, and it will work just fine and be nicely skinned. What are they going to do... make it more skinnable? WTF?

I essentially agree with you, but there are some things I do not think are being taken into account.

Infrastructure. The United States is really "spread out" compaired to the countries mentioned (with exception of Canada), and Canada operates under a different economic model.

The infrastructure is hard to place down, and hard to justify the expenditure without high payback rates on the service. Take Kansas City for example, the city is very spread out, you have to lay miles of infrastructure to get to small groups of people, then go another mile or 2 or 3 or 4 etc... to get to the next group, the density is only slightly more than rural communities in some of the places that are dubbed as being in the "greater kansas city area"

THough I do think the cost is extremely expensive for the consumers, I think some of the cost is definately justified, also considering the cost of repair when your repair person may have to drive 20 miles to get to a customer.

  5. Key word is Consignment on States Planning to Require License to Sell on EBay · · Score: 3, Interesting

I think this is a good idea. These individuals are running an auctioning business by taking peoples items for consignment. As long as it does not spread to those just selling their own private goods, this seems like an incredibly good idea.

It provides protections to the people who give their goods over for sale, as well as provides a link to the individual that is selling, and a person can prove that they are a bonded seller as well.

Obviously the classes would have to change slightly for internet retailers, mentioning talking fast is sort of moot if this were to go ahead.

    Some wierd logic there.

If you want to see how good you are at a specific game, try joining on online league like the CPL and then see if you can get into their top tier leagues. If you cant, then you probably arent good enough to play at a major lan event where you have to invest a lot of money to play.

This coupled with the fact that penny-arcade is essentially a great editorial page coupled with a comic that is, usually, intwined to the comic itself makes it good.

You can read the front page, find out interesting things, and then find a comic that is related to that page, and in some ways related too tightly in that it does not stand on its own.

The fact that you may feel your life is under threat, and you allow that fear to control you, is what has caused the kind of bullshit you just posted.

Security does not ensure freedom, when that security comes at the PRICE of freedom. Terrorists gained a whole hearted victory by showing American that it was too weak to stand up to terrorist ideology on its own terms.

The patriot act was an act of fear, it was a victory for terrorism as a tactic, it showed the world that 20 highly determined men can bring the United States to its knees and give up the very principles it was founded upon out of fear.

On July 21st we were shown that this victory was whole and complete, and they defeated the United States from an ideological standpoint with a stark thoroughness.

The United States did not buckle so easily when the same goals were intended by Timothy McVeigh, because at that time there was a strong beleif in American beleifs and values being strong enough to overcome such things without stripping the rights of the American people. Unfortunately our government is weaker now when it comes to protecting the American people, and neither political side is exempt from that statement.

    1. You assume that someone has Microsoft anti spyware installed.

    2. Its not integral to the Internet Explorer Application.

    3. The other methods posted involve knowing the microsoft operating system in depth.

Firefox has none of these problems, and it does not judge based on spyware, since the applications isntalled are already whitelisted, it would be difficult to argue that what you are getting is spyware, and if you are unsure, you can easily uninstall it.

Firefoxes management deals strictly with interaction within firefox.

A cleverly written BHO can steal all information you are entering into your computer, even if it is unrelated to actual browsing, depending how clever the person is in writing it. They are a pain to uninstall as well. Extensions for firefox are uninstallible from a menu, and they are whitelisted before they ever get to you, so that you can avoid some of the fly by installs that BHOS enjoy.
