If someone cannot e-mail me it's because they are likely using a residential cable/DSL account and I suggest to them to either use AIM or a viable webmail service like GMail (hotmail and yahoo are banned).
You are free to block any addresses you want. However, I must ask what makes you so important that people must use the mail service you dictate in order to contact you? I think that doing what you have done would cause more inconvenience to myself than anything else. If people couldnt get through to me, they wouldn't switch providers, they would just stop emailing my pompous ass. The point is to block the bad, while letting the good stuff through. False positives only cause problems for ME, nobody else.
Okay okay, we get it, you can read super fast, give us a break. May be you should learn the value of a "leisurely pace". Man, slashdot isn't the place to find humility, thats for damn sure.
What I mean, is that if Congress is moved into action, the internet will not become safer, but rather the only thing that will change is that there will be more government enforcement of MPAA/RIAA copyrights, more wiretapping, and more TAXES. What I mean is, nothing will improve (for the people), it will only be worse.
If you are really a geek, you can figure out how to strip the songs you might have bought from another on-line store of all identifying information so that they will go into the iPod. But then you have also degraded the sound quality.
Where the hell did she get this BS? Since when does stripping the DRM out of a digital file destroy the sound quality?
Is this really the understanding of the "scene" that she had as head of the RIAA? That is on the scary side I think.

Did the article say that?

The summary implies that MS had some kind of a change of heart about the song. The article seems to only say that they requested a song, he wrote one, and then they decided not to use it. I'm sure this happens all the time. Alltogether a rather strange story. If it was me, I would have known from the beginning thats not what they wanted for the keynote. I'm sure they wanted something flashy and cool.
Yes, this is true, and scary. However RFID has never bothered me much either, since I know I can always just wrap the tag in foil, or destroy it. (20 dollar bill in microwave, etc)
The whole thing has the added bonus of creating more opportinity to cause havoc with the system, by interrupting the operation of the scanners;]
Like the summary says, we already have these cards in the form of driver's licenses. We already have to show a drivers license or passport for most of the stuff we do, and provide a SSN. Basically, the only people I see being affected by this are illegal aliens that can't obtain one of these new cards.
It is obvious that we need to better educate our kids as well as teach them some respect and how to think logically.
I am the one thinking logically. If you think putting a satellite in orbit for free is logical, or that people in [Iran,China,Korea] would even want to attempt to build (from scratch) the necessary equipment is logical, then you have some more considering to do.
Your reply is a good example of why America is sinking
No, yours is. Americans seem to think that the rest of the world secretly shares their views on everything, and that any sensible people would jump at the opportunity to be assimilated. Here's a hint: other cultures don't necessarily want our message being beamed to them from space, as if to "show them the light". It is a self-centered belief to think that it is our responsibility to undermine other governments we disagree with.
I believe censorship is a bad thing, but its not our right or responsibility to intervene. Perhaps the reason "America is sinking" is because the rest of the world is sick of our crap.
It is only a matter of time before a country puts up a 2-way satellite
Wow. I wonder, does anyone ever think before they open their mouths? Who exactly is going to pay for this free, censorship busting sattellite system? Putting a communications satellite in space can be rather expensive. Then, assuming it somehow gets funded, how will anyone in Iran be able to use it? Do you think everyone over there has the necessary communications equipment just sitting around in their basements?
While I'm sure that the points he raises are valid, overall I'd say that was a really weak letter, and not something that deserves front page on Slashdot. Who are these "friends" exactly? How about some more modern examples of RIAA bullsh*t? The examples he gives are so far in the past that they are hardly relevent now. He needs a more developed argument and much more supporting evidence.
Oh, I think I'm getting a little misty over here. Its just so sad..all those 720 owners, watching tv at slightly less quality than HD, its just so....heartbreaking.
I think you can be too paranoid. I seem to remember a story a while ago about security measures that were overly invasive. Require 14 character password with non-alpha characters, and get your users putting their passwords on their monitors with post-it notes.
Its true, you never seem to realize your folly until its too late and your data is gone, but in my case, my home network isn't so important to me that I think its worth so much security that it interferes with my enjoyment or productivity.
Usually my stance is that I let the foil-hat wearing scurity gurus have their toys, but I continue to look for the solution that is "good enough" and that conforms to MY wishes, not theirs.
Are you kidding me? The GoDaddy ad was NOT that controversial. Take one look at any of the prime time reality shows on the air and you will see WAY more sexual content and inappropriate behavior. The Super Bowl was just a sore spot, thats all. Heck, take a look at the new Victoria's Secret ad... Whew!!

"Jumping puzzles in Metroid Prime work very well, thank you very much."
no..No..NO!!
The jump puzzles in Metroid Prime were even worse. You couldn't look down to see where you were jumping!! It was truly awful.
Metroid prime was a pretty good game other than that and a few other failings. (see TFA)

The problem with vigilantes is this:
What happens when they come after YOU, and you don't have due process to protect you?

In soviet russia, the PACKETS ROUTE YOU!!!
hahahaha, the perfect opportunity.

PS: i don't like proving that I'm not a script.
After reading TFA, what is the answer?
Chopped up version of the old Xbox OS.
Yay. What a ground breaking revelation.
I want my money back!

Oh boy, I can't wait for another song for this release.
NOT!!

And, for God's sake, do not try this at home.
(in case dumbasses think it would be a cool trick to impress the girls in their gen-chem lab.)

Like you care.
Like you actually paid for the copy of WinXP-pro you are using now...

However, the filesystem and networking abstractions differ.

...because some inconsiderate dumbass posted a direct link to a 12 MB movie on the front page of slashdot.
I foresee my karma going down the shitter.

Ours filters out any mail that has "RE:" in the subject!! (capital RE, not lower case)
The truth is simple. Mail is broken. The system makes the mistake of trusting everyone who uses it.

I think there is an extention available that will get rid of that behavior in firefox. "Disable Targets for Downloads"

You don't have to. There is some kind of "expert" option IIRC, that lets you skip all that shtuff.
