That looks pretty damn cool. I wonder if I should go rent the firefly DVDs. I remember being all excited about the TV show, but when I saw the premier episode, it was a yawn fest. This movie looks like a must-see though.
That is, why is this Microsoft's battle? They make software, they don't make laws. From my understanding, that is the resposibility of the state government. So...why is this on Slashdot?
"the operating system that could have been the foundation for Mac OS X"
Where did this come from? AFAIK, OSX has always been based on nextstep and BSD. Why would Apple have even bothered with BeOS? This sounds like misinformation to me.
I don't see any way that this would shut down zombified PCs. DSL/Cable usually has much more downstream bandwidth that upstream, assuming that its even open for receiving mail, I don't think that they would effectively be shut down at all.
Better to slam the websites advertised, like the slashdot effect, I reckon.
Yes, that is the kind of thing I had in mind when I mentioned the idea. You could put the sensor in the middle of the keyboard, like where IBM puts the nipple. Then its just a matter of measuring movement in 3 dimmensions accurately (and making the sensor small enough). I have a feeling the musical instrument version probably doesn't have enough accuracy to control a video game or scroll buttons.
The submitter acts like they have never seen anything you can tilt before. The fact is its purely a novelty. Is this more useful than, say, a joystick? I really don't think so. Consider tilting your laptop all over the place on an airplane. I''m sure it would annoy your neighbors to no end.
Something that would really be good... Controlling stuff by holding your hand out over the keyboard and tilting/sweeping your hand. Now that would be quite an idea.
I havn't read all the technical docs, so I'm not sure what the difference is between Sun's technology and Hyperthreading, but I'm sure there is a difference, with Sun's technology probably being more complete.
Not sure but perhaps this technology would be better integrated with multi-core processors, to give not only multiple virtual processors, but also multiple simultaneous threads on each core. After all, if they want to compete against the Cell, they have to go multi-core.

Seriously, you are obviously going to receive the same answer from everybody: MBA. The only other response may be if you specify some special interest in some other area (ex security: PhD math), which you didn't. Quite possibly the dumbest question yet to make Ask Slashdot.
Seriously, once they found out it was a hoax, and discovered the writing talent that contributed to the book, they should have published it right away. It would probably be their best seller. Any attention is good for business.
Man, I don't know why, but that post just made me laugh. The sweet simplicity, the obvious contradiction, the careless misspelling... I can't look at it without cracking a smile.
That is exactly what I mean by 'dead'. It hasn't been updated in months. My take on that situation is that Google has just given up on the concept. It is often an interesting game to search for random words like "kitchen" and see how much porn comes up.
I always find better pictures by searching 'ordinary' google. Image search doesnt really search images anyway...it searches the text on the page that links to the images.

plain and simple
competition is good.

Uhm...no. Its not from a GnR song. Its from a frickin movie. Cool Hand Luke. And since this is a useless post anyway, I'll go on to flame...GnR sucks.

Now they don't reach for their own phones, they just roll their eyes and try not to laugh at the fool who chose that stupid ring tone.

Ya, it was a silly joke on a slow Friday afternoon. It was just what I needed.
-d
IANAL, can someone explain what this means?
-d
Totally YAWN.
-d
Ah, the Slashdot forums, where spelling counts and reality doesn't.
-d
I'm actually speachless.

1. no
2. I don't whore anything, but if I needed a cheap new computer, then yes.
Redundant? pfft. I was the 5th or 6th comment.

"cheap computer"?
The Mac Mini starts at $499. You can get a brand new computer from Dell for $250. Now the Mac Mini is pretty inexpensive, but its not THAT cheap.

I get more and more pop-ups in firefox every day.
is that bad....or good

A new release of Gnome got the front page, but a new release of OpenSSH doesn't? Someone's priorities are out of wack.

This is very exciting. I hope the probe lands in the sea, because hearing the sound of a extra-planetary sea would be a real treat.
