is it's all crap. I don;t care if your Intel, AMD, or Apple. They all lie about how fast there cpu's are and benchmarks can always be easily scewed - whether its by turning off SSE2 (as in this article) or if they change the bios settings from the default on one machine (as toms hardware said AMD recommended for their 3200+ benchmarking) - its all made up.
I'm never going to ALWAYS have the latest and greatest system (My pc is a P4 1.6 and the mac i'm using to type this is a Dual G4 500) but what makes my choice for what System to use comes down to one simple thing....
WHAT THE SOFTWARE I AM USING RUNS BETTER ON.
When I want to use telnet, ssh, ftp (cuteftp, dreamweaver), or any internet related app - I find that for my setup they seem to work better on my pc for some reason, when I want to run Photoshop (although when working with files over 80megs it seems to open faster and run filters faster on my PC) or Illustrator or even Quark they seem more responsive on my Apple.
If I had to make a choice and choose only 1 system (glad I don't have too) I would probably choose a really expensive PC (like a Dual P4 3.2ghz with HT or something) ONLY because it would be cheeper for me to build (read not purchase a Dell) than the cost of a single mac.
But in real life I don't have to make a choice or rather i've made the choce to use both - and hay I can still play Diablo on both too - although if I want to play more games like Arcanum or Final Fantasy or Neverwinter Nights i'm kinda stuck only using my PC.
Yet another high cost update.... fun fun

"Not surprisingly, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), strongly supports the legislation, although an RIAA spokesperson said Friday the RIAA hadn't actually seen the written text of the bill."
LOL - doesn't matter what you may or may not be saying as long as you include the words "deter online piracy" and "stop peer to peer" the RIAA just hops on the bandwagon....
With this logic you could have a bill saying "All people over the age of 35 must ride on carousel - and music downloading is bad - nar" and the RIAA will support it
so ALL my cats had 6 fingers and human looking eyes - that would be dope - I have no real foundation as to why it woudl be cool, just that it would make everyone go "What the f----"
I had bought a Thinkpad but the USB was slower when transfering files then when I used my desktop. Both were supposedly USB 2.0, I shrugged it off because it wasn't a big enough issue for me (transfer files that wer 100megs tops) - but that does really suck for those who really needed it I guess.
It seems like SCO is like that little kid who just wants to be annoying so they will get attention (or in otherwords cause IBM enough of a headache that IBM will just buy them out to shut them up)
The idea is to charge it only in threatening situations or when the wearer feels vulnerable, Whiton said. A woman might arm it when she's walking to her car at night, for instance.
Are they going to be the Microsoft of Patents? It seems like literally every week I hear of Amazon getting or applying for another patent. To me (not being schooled in the patent rights) it seems like some of these are somewhat borderline - - as in I tend to ask myself is this something that should/needs to be patented? Also with all these patents that they own could they essentially stop selling/distributing and just collect money from tons of other companies using their patents?
Thats a reasonable thought process, but your forgetting how many Californians also have a habit of smoking cigarretes and last time I checked we have the highest taxes on nicotine products of anywhere in the US, yet smokers still smoke for lots of reasons - none of which involves they don;t know its bad or the fact that it costs $6.50-$7.50 for a pack of smokes.
(for the record my $6.50-$7.50/pack is what I pay for Natsherman Naturals)

Bob Exec: "Hi Mr. IT Guy I heard on the TV we could save mucho denaro if we switch to some linux machine - what is that?"
IT Guy: "Hay Mr. Bob Exec, linux is great because it reroutes the hyper matter phase kits to the pasatronics and...."
Bob Exec: "oh um... yeah..."
Bob Exec now calls up Gartner Group after hearing their add and asks them to do a report for him. Gartner group sends Mr. Bob Exec a detailed report in plain english (with tech specs too) telling him what he needs to know - they ALSO include charts and graphs that Mr. Bob Exec can understand. In the end Mr. Bob Exec can now make a decision based on FACTS that pertain to HIS company and not some blanket statements from the linux comunity of h4x0rZ:)
Maybe i'm a snob, maybe I just have a thing against nails grinding on a chaulkboard - but I can not stand dubbs of anime. English voice actors (for the 99% most part) are TERRIBLE and make the anime totally unwatchable for me. If they were to offer the anime subtitled however - then I would be willing to support them - until then - they can burn in hell for all I care.
Just out of curiosity could you sue the RIAA fo spamming you IF you were not in violation of their BS?
For example lets say you bought the CD "Madonna - Raps Like Shit" and lets say you are not the most computer savy person so instead of ripping your own mp3s you downloaded (using Kazaa) the CD so you could listen to it on your Laptop and not have to worry about carrying the CD with you all over the place.
Now assuming that you are not the most tech savy person and left your Kazaa settings on the default (which if it's anything like the other P2P's i've tried shares your dload directory by default) you are sharing the files and so the RIAA sends you a message saying "Bad Monkey You DIE" or whatever....
Can you count that as a spam? or a harrassment? maybe seak retribution in a legal setting? In other words could you sue them for harrassment or spamming you?
This is where we GO TO FAR and blow up our own moon and as it comes crashing down upon us I dive back into my time machine and go even farther into THE FUTURE
According to the article it sounds like they based the speeds on DSL/Cable Companies everywhere in the US - which opens up a bag of all kinds of worms considering some places are probably set up better for Cable while others for DSL.
In my area I can get a 1.5mbs SBC DSL Connection which when tested runs at anywhere from 768k to 1.2mbs depending on time of day. My buddy who has a Comcast Cable modem in the same area gets anywhere from 128k to 384k depending on time of day.
However - when I used to live in the same general area - different building - DSL was only offered from a wireless provider. I pulled about 256k - 384k connections, but with the Comcast Cable I could pull anywhere from 384k - 512k
In short I don't have a true preference fro what gets me online as long as I can GET ONLINE - but my point is different areas are DEFINATELY set up more ideally for various services (lots of factors involved i'm sure) but in the end saying Cable is faster than DSL or vice-versa is kind of a generalization - it's to broad of blanket - it's like saying "X people are stronger than Y people" - that's just NOT simply true - other factors like what kind of DSL/Cable/Hardware/Wirless - Yes/No?/ etc...
People who are afraid of genetic manipulation are also the same people afraid of cloning. They usually read or have read too many sci-fi books or watched too many sci-fi movies to understand that we could actually make HUGE benefits in health science and medicine.
Of course you can just as easily cut your steak with a knife and fork as you can stab and eat someone to death with the same utensils anyway - does that mean we shouldn't eat with a knife and fork anymore?
Although this is a really stupid thing to do (much the same as if Marvel Comics decided it would only sell direct through there website and subscriptions and no longer through comic book stores) They have literally TONS of stores in my area (South Bay CA) coupled with their online sales I think the only people/sales they will lose will be from the nerds in Ohio or Texas who might have to drive a few hours before getting to their store. Either way tho you can always buy from their website direct and I think a lot of people do that already. Of course limiting yourself in a recession is retarded, but if thats their wet dream so be it.

So how long before the RIAA starts blaming it's profit loss on people buying individual songs and not entire albums?
I could easily see them come up with some lame excuse as to why it benefits the artists when you buy whole works of art instead of just a piece of it.
