  1. Lindows = Worthless on Review: Lindows 2.0 Dissected · · Score: 1

I still fail to see why I should pay $99 for a linux/wine combo.

Because it has click and run? Why not use gentoo for the more savvy people or just download program X from X's website? It will take the same amount of time to download and there is less chance of the install bombing.

The install thing being easier on lindows is total bunk. Grab a RH box off the shelf of X computer store for $40 (not to mention you can dload it free) and it's a nice collorful 3 click install for a noob or can be custom install for the more advanced. You even get free technical support over the phone and email support.

I don't like how some think linux will be more mainstream if we start charging for every little thing like M$. What next? User agreements and cd-keys for linux installs?

Hay - if I make an iso of my BYOL with wine can I sell it to the linux community for $99? If interested email me at getripped@off.dum

When I am on my windows machine I use Limewire - when i'm on my mandrake box I use gnutella (same program basically) both offer a choice on allowing/disallowing people from downloading from you.

With it checked you can download all you want without having to worry about anyone pulling songs from you.

This way I can grab songs from Supercharger (I own the cd it's just scratched to fuck and unplayable) and not worry about people dloading the songs from me that they may or may not own.

Again from the article I read it seems that when I install RH8 I will have 3 choices when it comes to my gui

    1) Gnome (default on all previous RH)
    2) KDE (I do think is the nicest)
    3) Bluecurve (the userfriendly but slow hack of KDE)

Granted i'm positive Bluecurve will be "slower" but you have to remember "slow" on a linux is still way faster than say "slow" on an XP machine - so a noob wouldn't really notice/care. Also on the topic of slow the graphic install of redhat since 7.1 has been WAY SLOWER than any of there previous install systems, but is still 20 times faster than a windows install.

And btw - most noobs don't know what a usability mailing list is let alone why they should use one. However most noobs will quickly learn that is they right click on kde it brings up a properties/theme configuration panel that they can relate to and start playing with themes/backgrounds which will lead them on the path to other gui's.

Red Hat decided - instead of using just KDE and Gnome to add Bluecurve which is a modified version of KDE that is "more user friendly"

    Former RH employee
"I don't want to work on crippling KDE, and they (Red Hat) don't want an employee who admits (Red Hat) 8.0's KDE is crippleware,"

    Translates too:
I think the majority of linux users will not want to use this "user-friendly" crap because linux users are all power users and red hat is dulling themselves down just to try and bring more noobs to linux and make some money and i'm too self-righteous to be involved in that hideous plot.
