I think that they missed the most important cast member photo (at least to most slashdotters). They don't have anyhting for I think her name is Eccentrica Golumbuts the triple breasted whore from Eroticon 6. If that isn't there I'm sure there are going to be a lot of disappointed nerds.
Like tardlet says, it's a problem of government getting into private owner's business. I'm all for putting solar tiles on my house, but I'm using it to power my place. If anyone else wants "my" power they can buy it.
The other consideration with metropolitan solar arrays is the effect of smog. The times I've been to LA I didn't see much of the sun. That would make already low effeciency panels even less efficient. I think that unless you can convince everyone in the cities to migrate to electric vehicles or better mass transit usage metro solar is not too hot of an idea (pun intended).
We say all this about wind and hydroelectric when it's not always windy and much of the US is in drought conditions. There is a whole bunch of real estate in southwestern states that gets a whole lot of sunshine throughout the year. Hydroelectric is surely the most consistent over time, and wind turbines come and go throughout the day. Throw some sizeable solar farms in the mix ( with a significantly updated grid) and I'm thinking we can cover pretty much all the energy needs for the country (yes I'm an insensitive American clod, damnit!). If I had the capital to do it I'd be looking at buying up large parcels of land with the intention of making large solar farms and have the extra funds to upgrade sections as more efficient systems become available. If all goes well you create a solar energy market.
If you need an anonymous coward alias to feel better about your posting habits, by all means, wrap your self (sic) in that security blanket.
Your posting bravado is classic slashdot. Yes my polluting habits. I may as well make rash generalizations about you from what little I know about you. I'm betting SUV, NOT an EV/Bike/Feet. Hmmm...hit close to home?
However, by using sophisticated climate models and new statistical techniques, this study has been able to separate the human factors from natural ones.
I can't image execs going for adding a minute to the shows themselves. That would take too much thinking outside the box (no pun intended). Those capitalist bastards add comercials to shows. Think about it, you pay extra money for the studio time and editing or you take a pay off from budweiser for another couple comercials. They have a hard enough time putting a quality product on the air. Can you say "reality show".
I agree with half of what you say. Battlefield Earth on its own merits (or lack thereof) is not the worst movie ever. Considering the book it's based on makes it significantly worse than it is. Many, many people consider it an excellent science fiction book. The movie had expectations close to the Lord of the Rings movies, but we all know which movie/movies even came close to expectations.
It seems that a pretty common thought in this topic is that there is no guarantee that Pixar will continue to rule the animation box office (let's just ignore Shrek 2 for the time). From where I'm standing, I see a studio that has put out absolute gold. I love watching Pixar movies with my kids. The attention to detail, writing, animation, voice acting, and just about every subtlety and nuance is exceptional. I see a studio committed to the product. I see people that care about what they do. I see professionalism that has few peers. Disney puts their name on it, advertises and make a ton of money. I forsee movies coming out in about 3 years that just have the name Pixar attatched and I will expect quality. I won't have any problem dropping the bucks to take the whole brood to the theater and watch a Pixar movie. And I also expect to buy DVD's that don't try to subject you to about 15 minutes of Disney pimping it's usually crappy fare. I think Pixar can't lose.
I was taking a stats class when a coworker (bluecollar) implied that it would be a useful class. Most of what I learned in that class was useful only in abstract where I could think of applicable uses for calculus while I was sitting in class. Stats I was trying to stay awake thinking I'll never use 90% of this; calculus I'm going on tangents in my notes with how I can use this stuff.
I think he has it all backwards. If you get married you can nolonger be considered a genious.
You know, I've been married for almost ten years and my IQ just tested 136. I'm still good enough for MENSA! Thing is I know I'm smarter now than when I got married, but I must say getting married was the best thing I've ever done. I may not have been a genious(sic.) when I got married, but I am now. So in one way, you are right; he did get it backwards.
I don't know why youd want to see a webcam of the filming of episode iii. There's gonna be spartan sets because everything is gonna be CG. You'll only get to see about a quarter of the characters because everything is gonna be CG. The only reason to watch it is to give a preliminary MST3K treatment to it. I'm already including it on my list of biggest disappointments in movies.
I've thought about putting my main computer in the same box as a server. Throw in a network switch and you have a great rig to take to LAN partys. Or use it as a space saving setup. Me, I'd do it for the coolness.
I think the whole MS switcher ads idea is pathetic. But then again the Apple poster at my school's computer store about why to switch is equally pathetic. Looking it over I can condense it down to a sentance. "Buy an Apple Macintosh because it is a better PC than a PC is." I had to laugh that the selling point of the computer is that it is better at being what the competition is than the competition can be. Why not point out what you really have going for you. What do you have that the other guy doesn't. Sign post up ahead, you've just entered the Pathetic Zone.
I found your comments about mormons buying a radio station to shut it down really funny. It doesn't make any sense to me without even considering that I live in Utah. Then, when you consider two of the best radio stations in Utah are alternative stations, the laughs keep coming. And yes these are alternative stations. They don't play the great modern alternative classics like eminem's 'song' from tu-mile, "because I got high", or anything from that Avril chickie.
PS - "because I got high" is a decent piece of music, you have to admit that. I do and I detest rap.
I think that OCing and modding should be in the same category. I'm interested in both AND general hardware news, but it would be good to have a subcategory.

Hold the phones, they're trying to do a recount in Ohio. Fuming just might resume.

Quote from something completely different:
There's lies, damned lies, and statistics.
Go figure. Ha, figure, get it?
In related news, Mt. St. Helens is fingered as the state's number one polluter.

What was it that (I think) PT Barnum said? "A sucker is born every minute"?
I guess 20-30 of them are making executive decisions for organizations worldwide.

Oh, wait, you mean this isn't another slashdot poll?

I mean, really, is there any other obvious choice on slashdot, besides pr0n of course?
The settlement with IBM.

I can't see anything appeasing conspiracy theorists. I can see them saying, "See, they aren't going to tell you anything. They have too much to hide."

As I would always say when taking O. Chem..."Organic chemistry is of the devil!" Damn, I hated that class!
A lava lamp case.
