I doubt Kazaa will just fall over and die so quickly. But whether they do or not, the effects of this precedent is much farther reaching than P2P networks. If someone can be sued outside of the US from inside it, this will affect the entire internet. Hopefully Kazaa (or anyone else) will fight back to turn around the decision to keep the internet the way it is.

As far as a (ad free) replacement for Kazaa goes, though, check out WinMX.

I agree. Perhaps we're not yet being careful enough. Let's cut funding to schools who want to teach foreign students.

And now that I think of it, there's a pretty good chance, with all this anti-terrorism shit going on, that a few Americans might want to help the terrorists. Maybe we should just make it so that the government needs to do a background check on students before pursuing higher education.

Yeah... Good idea to be careful...

For someone who has never had to kick a habit, like drugs, drinking, sex, smoking, etc ... it's easy to stand there and laugh at those of us who have been there and tell us simply to "stop" or "don't".

I have a very addictive personality. I avoid drugs because I'm relatively certain I couldn't stop. The only games I play on the computer are ones like Freecell, Tetris, etc, for the same reason. I try not to criticize people who become addicted to things, but I think that if I can foresee an addiction than other people should be able to also.

As for some advice, I think that the most effective way to kill an addiction is to stop yourself from being able to do it for a while. Cancel your credit card if you're addicted to EQ. Trust your money with someone else if you're addicted to cigarettes, so they can decide what you're allowed to buy. There is always a way to quit.

So while the author is correct in aserting that sales didn't decrease until after Napster was shut down, he failed to notice that sales slowed to a turn-around starting before Napster was openned. Typical yield of paper: 125 lbs per tree
250 tons (500000 lbs) divided by 125 lbs per tree gives us 4000 trees.
