Releasing code under the GPL does not take away any rights to relicense it in another manner. Trolltech, for example, offers QT either under the GPL or a commercial license.
This has absolutely nothing to do with terrorism, and it's been around for quite a while. The purpose is to catch drug dealers. Whether that's an appropriate thing for the government to be putting so much effort into or not is another matter.
No. They *may* be able to write tuition to private school off (I'm not sure). That just means they pay less (or no) tax on that amount of income. Though there is a fairly heavy lobby for it in some communities, you do not actually get the amount the government would have spent on public education back, nor should you.
I bet you've never driven a backhoe professionally, but still you have strong opinions, based on good business sense, on whether people should accidentally cut off your company's Internet connection with one?
Yes, but I wouldn't presume to tell someone else which brand of backhoe would be least likely to do that.
Fluorescent bulbs work well in rooms where they'll be left on for a bit, but they take a few seconds to cycle up, and they quickly stop working very well at all if they're turned off and on a lot.
They're great for the office/living room, but horrible for the bathroom.
It's not a question of whether the various rights holders want it released or not, it's whether they want people to be able to pay them or not. If they decline to offer a way to pay them, I won't, but I'll still download it.
If they're not willing to sell the high resolution, no DRM files I can just get for free anyways, why should I bother? I'd be willing to pop out a couple bucks for (most of) the shows I watch, but if they're going to give me *less* than I can get without paying them, I'll just go around them.
That's exactly how it was framed when Blizzard tried using Bittorrent. That, and it's extremely slow because no one wants to open their firewall or leave the client running for some corporation that should be paying it's own bandwidth bill.
I'd happily buy that one video card supporting everything
Nvidia has been supporting their cards for quite some time now. Under Mandrake, it's as simple as installing two rpms and a minor change to your X config file.
This comes up every time there's a story about electric powered anything. Just because the US isn't capable of being responsible about its electricity generation doesn't make it so for the rest of the world.
I think we owe it to the country not to whine so much about privacy stuff when the only thing the feds are after are the guys who killed 5000+ of our citizens.
That is your opinion, and you have every right to it, just as you have every right to open all of your communications to the government if you so desire. You do not, however, have any right whatsoever to demand this of others.
The fundamental rights of over 5000 people where violated on Tuesday, would you chose to violate the fundamental rights of millions in response?
what more do you want from them? $100 and a blowjob?
I want them to leave me the fuck alone. I want them to stop acting as if they had the right to collect, and keep, information about me.
There are laws protecting us from unscrupulous doctors, lawyers, and bankers who would do these things, perhaps we need to expand this to every business type.
Example. The credit agency in Canada seems to think I owe BMW money for a car. That is long gone (when the lease ended, I sold that car and bought a different make). Still, it's well neigh impossible to get that off the record.
Don't you generally have to return a leased car? Maybe that's why they're after you!;)
Actually, in many juristictions landlords are obligated to rent to the first applicant.

It's especially amusing given that he misspelled "colour" in the preceding sentence.

Mission is no where near Vancouver. It's one of those scary places we keep our religious wackos so they'll only hurt each other.
As a Vancouverite, I'll correct this. High speed net access is available even in the far flung suburbs that no one with all their teeth inhabits.
If we had a "NYTimes" section, people could just filter them out the same way we filter Katz...
If you're not interested in his posts, just turn them off. Certianly a lot less effort than bitching every time he posts a story.
But would someone like say, Alan Cox, work for AOL?
so, for english,
virus -> viruses
air -> air
So why does virus break the us -> ii rule? That didn't make much sense. Virus isn't a mass noun in English.

Probably everything will break.
One would think that, yes. I upgraded from 2.2.whatever to 2.4.0 on a box running RedHat last january without any issues.
and as i said, it's been a while since a big game was ported to linux.
Wolfenstien 3D was, what, 2 weeks ago?
The US asked them to turn over a war hero without any evidence. Of course they refused!
How would the US respond if Iraq asked the US to turn over Bush Sr for certian execution?
not believing in a religion is not the same as atheism. (Right?)
Wrong, basically. A (lack of) theism (belief in the existence of a god or gods).
