Not sure if this example counts, but there are plenty of female cleaners in all societies. You know, people who scrub the toilets, mop the floors, clean up the spills. Not quite the same as garbage collectors, but they do dirty work all the same.
I don't know what the exact gender stats are for cleaners, but in the last few jobs I've worked I've seen a lot more female cleaners than male.
Hmm... which is worse, garbage collection or toilet cleaning...
There's always some people who think they're superior and claim people who buy Apple gadgets are rich, air-headed idiots who only want to look good. And then they call Apple users elitist snobs!
I've never personally come across anyone who's bought a Mac or iPod/iPhone because of the supposed "cool" factor.
People like waspleg seem to be unable to accept that the iPhone does have its upsides and its advantages over other devices. I'm perfectly happy to accept that the iPhone doesn't suit everyone and other phones will suit some users much better than the iPhone would.
Something similar happened to my friend last year in London. Some scumbags got a copy of the key to his apartment -- most likely during an apartment inspection with the real estate agent. They swiped all 4 laptops in the apartment plus a few hundred in cash, but strangely enough left a bunch of digital cameras etc untouched.
My friend had Adeona installed on his MBP and managed to get a couple of good webcam captures of a suspect and IP address, which he sent to the cops. The cops weren't interested in recovering the stolen goods -- not enough police resources to devote to cases like this, apparently.
So much for that. I think it's almost better just to form your own P-P-P-Powerbook goon squad and go knocking heads once you've figured out a physical address for the IP.
Isn't that pretty obvious though? If he wasn't African or American, why would he be happy to be called that? African-American is a pretty specific group.
I don't see what the fuss is about. Catering for IE5+ using CSS is quite possible, people have been doing it for years and all the mainstream sites do it. It just takes more time, that's all. But in the end, there's a work-around for just about anything.
Huh? CSS Zen Garden is way outdated now, it's become mainstream. There's nothing special about what they're doing. I'm not sure what sites you're visiting, but professional web design and development has dived into the modern Web Standards age for a number of years now.
Agreed. Everytime the topic of HTML tables comes up, there'll be a +5 modded post extolling the inane virtues of using tables for layout. It's surreal, and sad. And these people call themselves web developers.
Somewhat off-topic, but I was wondering if you've tried ExpressionEngine? It's not open source, but it's definitely the most user-and-designer-friendly light-weight CMS I've used.
It's not pointless at all -- it'll look pretty much the same on any decent LCD which isn't damaged/faulty in some way.
Sub-pixel anti-aliasing was designed for LCDs and should work the same across all models.
I like it how in OS X you can choose between Light, Medium and Strong sub-pixel anti-aliasing, as well as standard anti-aliasing designed for CRTs. Caters to the user's taste.
And people prefer what they are used to. Windows users will prefer ClearType, and Mac users will prefer OS X's font rendering.
I don't think I've ever come across an experienced user who uses both Mac and Windows on a regular basis who prefers the ClearType font rendering.
Incidentally, Safari 4 for Windows enables you to switch between OS X's font rendering engine and ClearType. It's very interesting to see the vast difference it makes to the way we see websites.
I'm of the same opinion. I've used Windows and Mac OS X for years and once I got used to the OS X font rendering style, there was no going back.
It simply looks so much better to me -- more accurate, and there's much more distinction between different typefaces.
ClearType looks a lot more jagged and just ugly. I can understand people thinking it looks better if they're used to it -- I was the same, but then I discovered OS X.
You're completely missing the point. These kinds of nutcase zealots aren't interested in setting up their own personal blacklists, instead they want to control what other people see and do.
You don't understand how women think. Read up on the subject from people who are experts, like David DeAngelo. These experts are geeks who had the same age-old problems many geeks do, and did something about it by researching the subject and doing lots of field experiments to verify their understanding.
Maybe then you'll realise that there's no need to be an asshole or a jerk, but neither should you be a nice guy who's constantly sucking up to women (like you are doing with your wonderful female friend).
Women see "nice guys" as manipulative, immature passive-aggressive little boys who do favours or lavish lots of money on them and expect sex in return. Most of the time, nice guys aren't actually so nice at all.
Even PDFs with vector-based images and layouts render slightly differently on different platforms and different PDF viewers. I could hardly believe it myself when I saw the results.
Agreed. I'm Australian and I think Australia is much more conservative and puritanical than most people believe. In this respect, we are a bit like the USA, except without the emphasis on individual freedoms that the US is famous for.
Someone could make another Webkit browser that runs under Linux, why does it have to be Safari? Safari is not Webkit, and Apple never promised to make Safari open source and available on multiple platforms.
Right on. And I bet that a full metal jacket 9mm or.45 bullet fired from a submachinegun or a carbine could penetrate just as well as the musket could. We could always throw armour-piercing ammo into the mix as well.
Apple doesn't give a damn if you modify OS X and use it yourself. They sure as hell aren't going to let another company modify it and profit from it though.
How a raving, illogical lunatic like you can get modded up, I have no idea.
I agree with you that Apple software on Windows tends to suck. QuickTime and iTunes on Windows are slow as hell.
I use a Mac most of the time, so this doesn't usually bother me that much.
I never encourage people to switch to Mac unless I know that personality-wise they'll be a good fit. There are certain people who would never be satisfied with Apple products. It's a completely different kind of philosophy and mindset.

Western idols? What Kool Aid have you been drinking?

Why do you call slave reparations and affirmative action racism?

Depends if their underwear chafed their skin or not while patrolling:

Those definitely aren't pics of Hanson... they look nothing like her.

The only thing you can trust is a bitmap image.

I don't normally advocate lying but I think what he did was perfectly understandable and acceptable under the circumstances.
And he did the right thing again when he left the company soon after.
Huh, I'm not sure what you're getting at?

Huh? That's pretty far-fetched. The navy would just use a tall antennae mast, or an ultra-light hand-launched UAV.
Let's face it, this jetpack is strictly for entertainment only.
