100% Agreed. I've had a BlackBerry, I have an iPod Touch, and In Dec. '08 I purchased the Samsung Omnia i910. This was supposed to be Verizon's iPhone killer. I disliked it and Windows Mobile so much that I paid an early termination fee to rid myself of the phone and Verizon. I had never used an iPhone before, but when I left BestBuy and received my first call I was amazed at the simplicity of the device and how well the UI worked. I NEVER used my Omnia to browse the Web, it was just that bad. I didn't even like placing and receiving calls on it. Conversely I use my iPhone non-stop, because it does what I want, when I want, and without effort. It's like the perfect woman. This phone is the one thing for which I pay a monthly premium and actually feel that I get my money's worth.

Time zone differences combined with a multitude of events usually make some creative scheduling a necessary evil with every Olympiad. Last NBC will show bias towards events which traditionally draw more viewers as well as events where Americans are favored. Nothing wrong with this in my book. As far as advertising goes, it sucks, but its nothing new, that's how broadcast TV works. Tivo works the same during the Olympics as it does when you're watching Lost.

Funny that the announcement of the delay comes a couple of weeks after the PS3 price cut. It could be just a coincidence but my guess is that Sony wanted to get a couple of weeks of good sales in before the announcement of doom from Take Two. As significant as a $100 cut is, it wouldn't have been nearly as tempting of a purchase now, knowing GTA4 is delayed.

Well most people who use cell phones "know" the batteries are replaceable. Those who use PDAs and Smart Phone "know" the user experience is not exactly the same as using a Lap/Desktop. I'm not a lawyer so I cannot say if Apple HAS to make it very clear about the battery, but they most certainly SHOULD have. What often seems to make a difference in situations like this is when the world finds out someone within the company said, "We have to do this" and those running the show choose to ignore that in order to make more profit at the expense of what is fair to the customer. One question would be did Apple know that many customers would assume the battery was replaceable and purposely minimize the notification of this in order to minimize the impact on sales. I didn't sweat the iPhone enough to part with the half grand or switch to the unappealing AT&T network. I figured I'd wait and if it got even more features, a public SDK, or more carriers (Verizon) I'd take the plunge. Things like this battery fiasco were a setback to that. By the time the iPhone gets to the point I want it, they'll be giving it away with a 2 year contract.

I myself would expect to pay $500+ for a 1080 player alone (not a console) when I look at the feature sets of the first gen players currently on the market. If one wants to simply get into the 1080p realm then the PS3 is a great option. However, most who are really interested from an audio / videophile standpoint will want more.

The game library of the PS3 is small compared to the 360 because it shipped a year after the 360. Compare the library of the PS3 to what the Wii has for a fair comparison -- PS3 has far more games. The poster specified "decent" game library, he wasn't only comparing the number of releases in each. The why doesn't matter, it just matters that the deficiency exists.

This "problem" with the PS3 will be fixed shortly, there are a bunch of great exclusives just around the corner. MGS, Gran Turismo, Heavenly Sword, Hot Shots Golf, Little Big Planet, etc, etc. The biggest name in that list is MGS and the story highlights the possibility that it may become a non-exclusive.

PS3 is doing just fine for a console that shipped only seven months ago. As you've stated it only shipped seven months ago, yet the price is dropping $100. I don't think Sony shares the same opinion.

These kind of people would be very scared if you tried to write code using 1.5, recompile the byte code using some new-ish open source toolkits and then putting it in to production. Then again, you could do it without telling anyone. :)
I wouldn't want to work in an environment where someone, or some build system WOULDN'T notice this kind of change. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the guys who wants to upgrade; I just know it needs to be done carefully, and I have also seen what happens when hundreds of developers start implementing new language features without thoroughly thinking through the impact on the overall product(s) and requirements.

As more factories get on-line and more consoles are leaving the shelves the cost of production will go down. There is a dark-side to the pharma industry, just as anywhere else; You shouldn't however discount that a part of the industry are many scientist who for emotional, personal, and/or professional reason dedicate their careers to finding "the next cure". Here in the Research Triangle Park (NC) there are a decent number of pharma startups making money because they're showing promise towards developing possible cures. The complexity of curing cancer, AIDS, MS, etc. goes without saying. There are plenty of new drugs hitting the market and sitting on the FDA's desk. All of these are the next best thing, but there is always a side effect. The pharma giants don't have this control you speak of to create this long-term revenue stream, just like they can't control their stock prices when the latest drug they've been banking on doesn't present good data from the trials. Your argument isn't logical. If the pharma-cos were all as evil as you say they'd still want a cure, it would be the prevention of the diseases they'd be against.
