  2. Sweet on DS Launch Titles Officially Revealed · · Score: 1

That is pretty cool. If there was no mistake in communication, the important things we can glean from this are:

    • GBA games can take advantage of the wireless capabilities in the DS.
    • Some GBA games put out by Nintendo were ALREADY created in such a way to take advantage of that fact.
    • Nintendo may still not be in to the "online" thing yet.

I bring up that last point because it sounds as if they are expecting you to bring the DS to a location (a movie theater) to get the data, rather than being able to get it over the internet through any hotspot. While that may tie into their plans of drawing people in to their movies, it seems to ignore the fact that the content could be delivered without doing so.

Anyway, cool news and thanks for the link!

  3. Re:XAML on XAML Development Today, But Not From Microsoft · · Score: 1

That said, I don't think that XAML itself is a good idea. Apart from XAML vs XUL/SVG/etc. issues, .NET itself is fundamentally broken. I'm not sure that it will be fixed and serious design issues will not make its way to Longhorn.

What exactly is "fundamentally broken" about .NET? If you are referring to that joke of an article you linked to, you should probably look further. That was the biggest joke of an "article" criticizing .NET that I've ever seen.

He says that C# needs anonymous inner classes. He also says it will probably be a "cold day in hell" before Microsoft adds them. It's kind of embarassing for him that he had to put the update that they are adding them in 2.0

He says that there is a big problem that the syntax for structs and classes is so similiar. Big freakin' deal. If you don't know if the type you are using is a value type or a reference type, that's really your problem, isn't it? He wants Microsoft to have to require people to put the word "struct" when using a struct type everywhere, which is work that shouldn't be required.

He has a few valid points, but most of his whining comes from not using enough of this pattern or that pattern. I would hardly call his criticisms as pointing out "serious design issues", and it is far from saying that .NET is "fundamentally broken".

Converting AIFF to MP3, AAC, or WMV isn't transcoding if the AIFF data is lossless. The only lossy compression scheme that AIFF is spec'ed to support is IMA 4:1, but Griffin isn't likely to use that since the Apple and Microsoft playback implementations of IMA weren't compatible with each other. (Byte order issues, I've read.)

In my mind I was thinking AAC, not AIFF. I didn't know anything about the AIFF format. Thanks for the info!

You don't get AM, which is what I would imagine a lot of this would be used for (think talk radio).

My biggest complaint is it doesn't do MP3 (only AIFF). I have a portable CD player that does MP3's on CD, which is where I would be transferring this too. I guess I could transcode, but since AM radio already has such poor quality, I'm not sure I would want to do that.

Also, the same people who were claiming Bush was bringing down the economy before he became President by his talking, are the same people who today talk down the economy as much as possible (like Clinton's Secretary of Labor Robert Reich). It's absolutely ridiculous to think that policial candidates takling down an economy actually bring down an economy the size of the United States. It's a pathetic attempt at trying to pin the cyclic recession we had on Bush.
