true. But they were also ballistic - craft would not land were it started but hundreds miles downrange. So using more and more powerful boosters allowed eventually a space flight.
On the contrary, SpaceShipOne goes straight up so it is an evolutionary dead-end as far as orbital flight goes.
Exactly.
And here is the problem: what "the rest of us" are going to do when Google goes south? Either collapses under its own weight or finally broken by its corporate overlords?
Can't put all the eggs in one basket. The only sane future is the one with unified, object-driven search and retrieval methods distributed amongst information consumers and producers.
They must have got the designs for time-machine as well because 144 flew several months before Concorde.
Actually if you look at early pictures of 144 you see that it is very different even outside - delta wing instead of curved and one 4 engine compartment instead of 2 blocks of 2.
I was already corrected about b-29 above. Of course, it were b-17s that were shutdown in Germany and even landed in Ukraine.
realistically, it is not like stealing how a new car looks.
All the things that fly require a great deal of design "inside" to work well with what "outside". Similarities in COncorde and Tu144 and in Buran and "classic" shuttle are caused by aerodynamics. Both machines had to perform in identical environments so no wonder they come out looking the same.
Kind of mechanical darvinism at work.
The only exception I know of is the B-29. Soviets got hold of several shut down over Europe and replicated it bolt-by-bolt (Tu-4?).
..that it apperantly has access to all your Amazon related cookies? I tested a9 on one computer and just went there for the first time on this one and it remembered me.
Scary how they can track you across multiple locations.
I just used my mod points but maybe some kind soul will mod you up;-)
Very much agree. Government should not be in business of "saving" failing companies like that money they sunk into the airlines after 9/11. Look at Southwest. They were hit just like any other, but they were profitable before, they were profitable in 2002 and they are profitable now. And they hire IT all the time.
The only way out is thru. Government should maintain level playing field - watch for corporate crime, etc. People will take care of themselves once given chance.
One of the major, major annoyances for me is inability to open mailto: urls in Firefox using Thunderbird and vise versa (http links in Thunderbird in Firefox).
Yes, I googled and yes there is a solution involving a shell script(s) and installing arcane extention in 'Fox, but:
This solution does not work for me; and overall, the shell script thing will be an immeditate turn off for someone converting from Windows (where by the way, Fox and Bird integrate perfectly including even XP login screen).
So does anyone know if there was any progress on this front with the new releases?
you know, I was feeling really uneasy scrolling down a page with 200+ posts and not seeing one with overlords. Thank you for restoring my confidence in how the world works.
BTW, I would say: "..our probe-pulling overlords".
>> ERP systems are far less interchangeable than low quality hamburgers
mmm, ERP systems... Cash cows of the 90s...
There is a large company in the DFW area that was changing ERP systems like gloves: 3 in 4 years. People were making fortune contracting there. Meanwhile , their real, day-to-day business software was and still is a combo of 20 yo Cobol program and DCL script.
>>so people didn't have to go out and spend money on MS SQL or Oracle for what was only an evaluation
Just for the record, Oracle has always been available for free download in complete, unrestricted form. So for evaluation, people would just download and install it. Now, running production on unsupported and therefore unpatched Oracle instance - is the whole other matter.
Very true.
I did a lot of Cobol when I started out ( I am old) and I had this 600+ page Cobol book but I never went past page 18 and it was well worn out all the way to page 18. What was on page 18? First example of more-or-less complex complete program.
>>> due to a series of historical accidents the teaching of writing has gotten mixed together with the study of literature.
Accidents my azz! How else would you learn how to do something but by looking at how others did it before you? And, in case of writing, by studying how the great novels were written?
Same, glance-over-something-I-dont-understand style of essay as his recent piece about Java and coolness.

"That is not the article you are looking for"
kinda have to be multi-tiered and interactive in order to be scalable, right? ;-)
Exactly.

I am sorry :-)

I was already corrected about b-29 above. Of course, it were b-17s that were shutdown in Germany and even landed in Ukraine.
Just for the record, Buran flew twice, both times to orbit and unmanned.

www.kpmg.com
not in Firefox at least
so you suggest that Fox-watching /. crowd consists of "enlightned technologically-aware people"?
;-)
That was my observation too
same questions as posted above.

I am NOT talking about Iraq situation, just in general.

fyi, there is "hide searchbar" plugin and it is compatible with 1.0

it takes two weeks to take comments out of the code???

James project does not list IMAP in the list of features and the FAQs mention some "experimental" code. Is there something you know and they don't?
Great. So these civilizations will judge us, humans, based on few episodes of I love Lucy.
MS Works these days includes Word 2002 I beleive.
So it is first-class WP and more.
