yes, but it's ugly and badly designed. ICQ is a great chat service, and that's the point. If you switch to (for example), AOL or MSN, then you don't use your ICQ number any more. GoNumber is boring, but it does it's job of allowing you to replace ALL your information with one lifetime number.

You may like to check out GoNumber.net Personal listing. Thanks to the fact GoNumber.net is a directory NOT a technology / standard, it can adapt, so your GoNumber really does last forever, even if new communications mediums arrive in the future. There are privacy controls built in (being upgraded as you read this). GoNumber.net allows you to choose a GoNumber that is between 1 and 10 digits in length. It can even represent the letters on a phone keypad. Furthermore you can opt to input the alphanumeric equivalent of a GoNumber into the GoNumber field at www.gonumber.net or surf to www.gonumber.net/xxxxx where xxxxx is your GoNumber or alphanumeric equiv. For example, http://www.gonumber.net/555123. Or try inputting 'GOiSS' into the GoNumber input field at GoNumber.net to see a GoNumber weblink in action.

Rendezvous with Rama demonstrates Clarke's immense spacial imagination and intellect. It will take the same kind of skills that were required to bring Lord Of The Rings to the big screen in order to carry across the immense visual scope of Rendezvous. Let's just hope it is not Hollywoodized and turned into an explosion fest. We should leave the theatre wowed and satisfied, not fattened.
Palm kept quiet, and took the world by surprise. WebTV (greatest secret ever) kept quiet, and were purchased by MS for (approx) $400m after stunning MS who were planning their own iTV product. And there are others who surprised the world - and their competitors after completing their product.
To announce something with a rendered drawing that even uses the same typeface as the XBOX identity seems very unwise. They are opening themselves up for attack from: a) The sceptical public and media b) Their competitors who will simply copy any viable concepts in their business model. The best option would have been to simply show quotes from industry commentators and developers who could give the console credibility. For example:
"Phantom is mind blowing"
- John Doe, Fiktishus Labs, Inc
etc.
Anyway, one day after the end of March 2003 will tell all!
A friend (Johnny NG) and I had this idea in 1993 and were going to develop a system based on a Nintendo console. Objective, to ensure you kept peddling to continue playing the game! Not sure what stopped us, but many are doing it now. Be cool to have an Xbox or other latest generation console connected to a running machine, gun in hand, to add total realism to the Halo experience! It will happen.
We're developing a scalable OS for such devices, having had the idea over 20 years ago. If you want to be notified when we launch, let me know via the contact info on my SPACECARD at www.gonumber.net/2539.

...lution. It would not be an exageration to say that this technology, once perfected, could change the world in a manner more significant than mass production did when first introduced. It could lead to vending machines that produce items on demand. And it will not be long before scientists develop a compound that enables a single 'ink' cartridge to be used with the required materials then separated at the 'nozzle'. Just about anything could be created, even complex machinery. Wow! The mind boggles: A whole new class of ultra-sophisticated 'near organic' gadgets, instant meals of any shape, (Why not have a snack in the shape of, well, anything you want!), medicine (layered pills/tablets), aircraft and automotive construction, new display technologies, weapons: "Print me some more shells! On the double!". And when online, forget eCommerce, this is solidCommerce. sCommerce, 3Dcommerce. Whatever, it's amazing, and bring a whole new meaning to the term 'Hard Copy":-)
While the technology in Segway is amazing, as a consumer product, it does not deserve the hype it has received. It WILL make Americans fatter because ALL it does is replace walking or riding the far more efficient and environmentally friendly bicycle. There are vertical market applications for Segway, but the materials used in its manufacture and the fact it draws on ANY power source, render it a waste of time. In a time when obesity and reliance on oil, coal or nuclear (which does indirectly power Segway) are in short supply and damaging to the environment, I hope it fails. An improved bicycle would be a far better invention. For example, a way to ride without needing to hold the handle bars, therefore freeing them for holding something or playing a sport of some form.
Based on the sometimes catastrophic consequences of British (and lesser so) American foreign policy on Earth, we better sort out our space exploration strategy sooner, rather than later. Our questionable motives for visits to other lands here on Earth have caused much grief and loss of dignity here due to our 'Western' arrogance. Now we have developed the capability to destroy ourselves (and then some), we will need to be very tactful if we do touch base with another intelligent race. Chances are, no matter our technical achievements, they will have the power to stomp on us like ants if we put a foot wrong using their weapons of mass (planetry) destruction.
So, slash dotters, is it not time that Earth laid down the foundation for some Prime Directives?
I wish you were correct. I am a 12 year Mac user, very technical etc. I backed up my Powerbook (as I do all the time). Formatted hard drive in prep for installing Jaguar. Copied backup back, as one does, and ran iPhoto. All pictures missing, except about 35, all of ground zero in New York. So, I'm glad they are saved, but having 'lost' the others, I am at a loss. It is something to do with OSX or iPhoto. I made no error. I have been backing up without any problems since 1991 when I purchased my first Mac, a Mac portable. (14lbs, 1 Meg RAM, 4 Meg Hard Drive I think.)
Until we hear it from the core of the Apple himself, this may be rumor, but if it isn't, I find it ethically dubious to not make this clear during the installation of the application. However, I admit, I have never read the license agreement / terms and conditions which may well state the Apple may impose a charge in the future. And I doubt many others have read the small print either.
iPhoto recently lost all 501 of my photos, and Apple (UK) wanted me to pay £35 to ask one question about how to get them back as my hardware (500Mhz G4 Tibook). I refused because I had no guarantee they could help me. I hope that with the paid version, support comes included.
The fact he is using Linux is not what counts. The sooner people realize that it is the solution that counts, not the technology beneath, the better. And as regards creating a new paradigm, I was not claiming MS had created one, I was making the point that anyone wanting to challenge them needs to do so.
As regards MS takinng Lindows the court, ok, accepted, I misread it. However, Lindows is, like Star Office, offering similar functionality to Windows (or it's software), without really doing anything new. Not like PalmOS or OSX, which are in their own ways, quite radical. (But still not radical enough!):-)
OK, time to watch Walking With Dinosaurs on the BBC and enjoy some ultra realistic CGI.
Just like the nutters who damage the reputation of those taking a genuine interest in UFOs, here we have an example of a CEO who lacks the imagination to offer a genuine innovative challenge to Microsoft. (Something I am sure MS would relish.) Instead, they create something similar to Windows and not only give it a similar name, but are now attempting to hijack Microsoft's trademark, which for all their flaws, MS has done more than enough to use in the marketplace.
If people wish to challenge Microsoft in the market place, then creating new paradigms is the way, not through the courts. Such behaviour ignores the real issues and gives the 'other side' more ammunition. I don't represent the other side, am just making a point.
This is most interesting. I believe that the Jewish word for G-d sounds similar to Elohim, and cannot be written down in full. Any chance there is a connection here?
The P800 is not due for release anywhere until next year, so why do we keep reading about apps for it? By the time it is launched, other phones will be out, such as Motorola's amazing phone whose model number escapes me right now (swivel camera, triband, MP3 player, video player, bluetooth etc). Siemens have branded the Motorola as the U10 by the way. It does have a smaller screen, so probably not so well suited to complex applications, but certainly be excellent for gaming. Here it is:
I come from England, and until recently, advertising outside of magazines was considered offensive. On the BBC's Tomorrow's World TV show, product names and logos were covered up. Consumer purchased products because they saw them in use elsewhere. I bought my first Audi Coupé GT because a friend visited in one, and I was impressed. All advertising does is re-inforce a brand. If we purchased products because we saw them advertised, we would be idiots because we would be parting with our money without knowing if what we we purchasing was a viable product. Word of mouth sells. Of course, advertising is essential to introduce a new product too, but an opt in (permission marketing) based service is a way to clean up the web. And yup, I'm about to advertise. We're about to do it at GoNumber.net by allowing those with a Personal listing to choose to receive news from the manufacturers of products. For example, if you own a particular car, you will be able to opt to be notified of recalls, new gadgets, models etc. Simply click a checkbox to stop the flow. The potential is significant and finally offers an alternative to an advertising overload.
While Instant Messaging is ideal for real time communications, we're soon to add a non-real time basic collaboration feature to a GoNumber.net Personal listing called a 'Chatbox'. We already use it in house to maintain a form of 'live' document for project management, and not only is it secure (within the limits of web security), but impossible to spam, because there is no 'domain' to speak of.
There are other flaws in E-mail beyond spam, which include trying to find specific information.

It's not hype. I'll back it up:
1. Within the last 3 months, 10million still image camera phones (such as Nokia 7650) were sold.
2. Photography is the world's largest hobbyist industry by far.
3. The concept of being able to transmit live moving pictures from anywhere will have huge implications beyond obvious new baby to Grandma 2000 miles away. Please consider what happened on Sept 11 where the public were those who RECORDED the traumatic images from various angles. Now, with the advent of video mobile phones, we will all become instant LIVE news reporters.

In addition, I was on a train from Paddington Station in London, England this week, and got to see an actual 3G phone working. An employee was testing it (yes, there is a nearly complete 3G network in the UK). The phone was from a Japanese manufacturer, had twin cameras and a very high quality feel. But what blew me away, and this will mean the death of ALL OTHER phones the moment this puppy is launched in the UK in a few months is the fact that it has a PIP (Picture In Picture) feature thanks to the two cameras. The other person sees your face in a window in front of the view you can see, or the other way around. The video quality was at least 10 fps, and the killer app will be shopping. "Dahling, is this the wine you wanted me to get?" And of course, there will be the drunk twit who forgets he has a videophone and while at the bar with a cute chic in view calls his wife to say he will be home late because he's working late at the office. (What he meant to say was orifice.)
