If you feel compelled to give Microsoft hundreds of dollars every revision just to maintain file format compatibility, isn't that a problem with Microsoft and not the alternatives?
Even if I felt the need for a new version of Office, i will be avoiding cloud apps just as I did in the 90s when they where first tried. Frankly, there is big enough problem with applications (games for the most part) requiring an internet connect already without putting the whole thing out there. Even if we ignore the security issues, I dont want to have to be online inorder to work on a document.
You mean the 3D movies they had in the 50s and now again? They've not really changed that much, and people do get very tired of them, just like they do every decade. What's more, unlike a movie, in a VR game or environment you have control. The scene changes based on your actions, including tracking your head movement. No not change the focus based on what you are looking at makes it fairly unusable. In a game for example, you turn your head to look at an enemy, but its out of focus. You strain your eyes trying to focus on it, but it wont happen and you get a headache.
Back in the 90s I worked a bit in VR & 3D video/movies. The big hope was always a way to track eye movement to vary the interocular distance based on what you where trying to focus on. There where some prototypes that where able to do this using infrared cameras to track your eyes and adjusting the software accordingly, but I have never seen a production system that did it. Until they get this working, VR will always feels forced because the software is deciding what you are looking at rather then your eyes.
Is this different then the acceleration offered by Amazon on the Kindles or other browsers? I know that in Amazons case it can be turned off, but they use a proxy so that the can recompress images and run scripts off of the mobile device. I know of one or two third party browsers including Opera Mobile that do much the same thing.
It happens at times, often pushed there by massive outside forces (social economic). For example, the miniaturization of electronics was driven by the space race which was in turn driven by political ideology.
Legitimate apps come from the Google Market/Play. So this app in no way "disguises itself as a legitimate app". Not that I'm for such a closed environment, but it exists for this reason.
That's what I did last time I needed a super secure environment. Local network only, KVM extension to put the user interface far away from the locked up computer. Granted that's not what the article is looking for, but that was the best solution I could find at the time.
The main thing he says he will be working on is artificial intelligence that can understand "context". The goal is for Google search to be able to find pages etc based on what you mean rather then on word counts of what you type.
The shooter played Star Craft. Not a FPS, not some blood and gore style of game, but a strategy game. Its about as violent as chess (ok, it has a bit more blood then most chess games).
That's frankly OK with me in the bigger picture. It is better to have two parties fighting over power (unions vs corporations) rather then having one party (corporations) running unchecked.
why is the money going to the industry and not the artists?
Because the "artists" signed the contract. It's the same reason the money goes to the company selling the software I write and not me.
That's not their logo...
Include something like the Leap Motion and you have touch screen.
Actually, its not a horrible idea. Just make it based on iOS and it instantly has a good selection of games.
Because you didn't pay 650$, you paid 99$. If you get the 650$ version from Apple, it's not carrier locked.
Step 1: Embrace. Step 2: Extend. Step 3: Replace. Step 4: Discontinue.

After all, in much the same way their web browser allows access to the most depraved porn mankind has to offer.
Depends, if the lock company made a point about how using their locks would make your house burgle proof I get people would sure them.
I would argue that this was fair use. It was "baby got back" with banjos sung by white guys. If that's not a parody I dont know what is.
Actually, I would say that's every commercial company ever summed up.
For some reason, I think that's not quite right. Perhaps the intent was to write "an OS with built in HTML5"?

Well... you CAN run these on a modern mac so long as you use an older version of OSX that still has the PPC emulation layer in it.

The song you're playing is under copyright! You owe ASCAP 200$.
Depends on the diesel. US diesel is nasty, its much better in the UK.
