"ARGH! It's the PENTIUM M, NOT the Pentium 4-M that's the fast low power one!"
I call it a P4-M because intel used the term "Pentium M" for their P3 mobile CPU as well, so my current notebook with a 800mhz Pentium M is not using the same CPU that we're talking about. Yes calling it a Centrino would be better, but I was lazy and couldn't be bothered to look up how to spell it.
"I know quite a lot of people who would have loved to have a low power CPU that is x86 compatible in their desktop computers"
Then they should buy one. Get a P4-M, Athlon Mobile or Via C3 system. All of which are low power, low cost and run circles around what Transmeta has been trying to sell.
"Trying to break into an existing market is tantamount to financial suicide."
No, trying to break into an existing market with a sub par product is financial suicide. Face it, Transmeta dosn't make anything that people want. Their much vaulted code morphing has never been used, so they have a CPU that can emulate x86 poorly. Where is the value? Why should I buy a system that uses this CPU when for the same price I can get another that works better? Via has them beat in terms of price and wattage, Intel and AMD have them beat in terms of price and performance, in the embedded market the PowerPC and ARM series are better in every way.
Let me put it this way, if it was Intel who had released the Transmeta CPU would you still think it was worth while?
"A win for the American Public's Rights."Which rights would those be? Last I checked the Bill o' Rights nor the Constitution had anything in it about the right to pirate music, movies and software. For years people have been screaming that copyright holders shold go after the ofenders and not the ISPs etc, now that they do it these same people seem to be screaming just as loud.
"It sounds to me like they'd stock up the drives with ripped off games to warrant the $500 price tag. After the modchip, hard disk and cost of the XBOX itself there isn't a lot left from the $500 to go towards games."
I've seen these systems. They have every single console game made on the drives. Everything from NES, SNES, N64, Genisis, Gamegear, Gameboy, MAME, Neogeo etc. Thousands of games. The software devloper in me says hang them up by there diminutive manhood. But the gammer in me wants to play Strider again.
Jessie Jackson was overheard saying that the "vote has not yet been decided!". Controversy continues over the voteing method used by the Gnome foundation, whos leaders where once quoted as saying that they where "commetted to delivering the vote to someone who knows Linux from their asshole". Many people feel that picking names out of a hat leaves little room for recounts and chalanges to the vote results.
"And what about the hammers? Will they be elbowed out?"
The ham radio groups where going to stage a protest, but they all got winded when trying to climb the stairs out of their parents basement. Then there was a Babalon Five marathon to watch.
"Explain something to me... why is it copyrights currently last for what.. about 100 years after the creator's death, but patents lose their sole production status in about 10% of that time?"
By non transferable I mean just that. Cant leave it for your kids etc. I think the life time of the creator is a good term for copyright. Patents are another issue.
"Dude, it was never the artist's choice. How and who gets distributed and marketed was always the record company's choice."
It was their choice to sign over the copyright, and that is a choice that not all musicians make. For what its worth, in my option copyright should only be transferable on a contractual baises. In other words, the record companies should be working for the artists and not the other way around.
Yes the internet is a great way to distribute music. However this does not mean its OK to download music without the creators permission. It is their choice where and how their creation is made available, not yours.
For me there has been no level grind yet. I do my quests, work on my trade skills and gain levels from time to time. Its not like I'm WORKING on gaining levels, they just happen.
"What about the hard drive? Anybody who has turned off a computer a couple of times knows that the main change in sound is not the fans going silent, but the hard drive spinning down."
Had you ever looked at one of the Hush systems you would know that the hard disk is enclosed in a sound dampening box. You can hear the drive if you put your ear up to the side of the case but thats about it.
I have been burned by AMD processors, literally due to a lack of on chip thermal regulators.
Other then the singed fingers I find that the bigest problem with AMD is the motherboards and chipsets. I've seen too many problems with VIA for instance to make me EVER want to use any product they produce. In addition I like that I can get an Intel motherboard without the addons like RAID, audio, LAN, etc etc.... I want to chose my own expansion cards and just want BASIC IO on the motherboard.
1. "Hmmm, I wonder how far I can get from the office, and still be connected to the network..."
And you can tell its YOUR network how?
2. "I wonder if someone else has a WiFi connection in my appartment block that is causing problems with my laptop connection to my home network" (do they interfere? Or can you just choose which to connect to?)
And you can tell its not your network how?
3. "Does this library have WiFi?" (Yeah, I know. Ask at the desk. But what kind of self-respecting geek asks, when he/she can find out for him/herself?)
And you can tell its the library network and not the people nextdoor how?

No, what I want to know is where "linking your project to a slash dot article" ranks.
Approla or Motople.
So THATS why no ones ever seen her and many doubt her existance. Its not the nerd thing after all.

Your right, no one in the US ever gets pissed off about things like the confederate flag or some other separatists nonsense.
Let me know when they get rid of that zero in front of the dot. Till then I dont realy care too much.
The ham radio groups where going to stage a protest, but they all got winded when trying to climb the stairs out of their parents basement. Then there was a Babalon Five marathon to watch.
I kid.

True. But by downloading it you are encouraging the behaviour.

You could discover what a vigina looks like and learn what super model #613 looks like naked.
You'll know when its it. To quote the late great Bill Hicks, when there's a one shot cure for AIDs they'll be fucking in the streets.
For me there has been no level grind yet. I do my quests, work on my trade skills and gain levels from time to time. Its not like I'm WORKING on gaining levels, they just happen.
Its in the wash. Your mother got tired of the smell comming from your room (or as you call it, your fortress of solitude) and had to clean it.

And what if you wanted a picture tour of the barns of british nobility?
And you can tell all that from a little LED lighting up? Wow. Or have you just forgoten the context of the discussion?
And you can tell its YOUR network how?
