So what? After a few months most of the bugs should be ironed out, and the price will even have dropped.
No, but when I spend 40-50 on a new game I would think that I would be able to play without it crashing... today not two months from now, call me crazy.
Lets see PC computer game problems:
-New games that need patches to run
-Games that copy protection doesn't work with some CD drives
-Games where the copy proection crashes the comp
-Games that don't work with your current Video drivers (need to roll back)
-Games that won't work with your Video card.
-Direct X
Need I go on.. I can think of example for all of these... MechCommander2 was the worst...
is not what I would consider the height of intelligent writing.
And yet on that very episode's DVD commentary (yes I admit I am a fan), they put forward the mathamtical question of is the % break down of Fry's DNA.
A normal person could be considered a 1/4 product of each of their grandparents.
If Fry supplied his own DNA then what is his DNA %...? So it wouldn't be 1/4 because he is one of those contributors...
This is why cancer cells are harmful - they do not stop replicating. This has almost nothing to do with telomerase.
The problem with cancerous cells is that they do all (or most) of the following:
-Become immortal (turn on telomerase) and able to divide without limits
-Block signals pathways that cause cell death (p53 is one example)
-Turn on existing pathways to generate cell division (e.g. Her2-neu)
-Keep those pathways turned on
-Disable mechanisms for DNA repair (increasing the odds that they can develop other harmfull mutations)
Then they can:
-Cause angiogenisis (new blood vessel development) allowing them to grow to large sizes
-Escape their orginal location (via lymphatics or blood vessels) and
-Metastasize...
All tumors do some of these things. Most terminal cancers do them all. The thing that makes cancer harmfull is the fact that they do all of these things. If they did only one they would be benign. (and easy to treat)
cells that have probably lost a significant amount of their protective end-sections (IANAG--I forget what the ends of the DNA molecules are called, but they basically act as a buffer to prevent harmful mutation. Over time, though, they get shorter and disappear.)
IANAG, but I am a MD.
Those things are called telomeres, they shorten in most cells with each copying of the DNA. Except that in germ (reproductive) cells there are telomerases, which re-lenghten the telomeres.
Problem solved right, just turn on your telomerases? wrong, cancer does that....

Maybe they should take a hint and start making more games that are interesting and worth playing. (and heaven forbid, REplaying). I buy new games all the time. I buy them new from the store when price falls to $20 (USD).
Rarely I buy a game new at ~ $50 (US) when it looks really good. (these are the games that stay at 40-50 for 6 months rather than dropping to $15 within 3 months of release...)
Worse yet this VL (submitter for the article) is ViperLair. It is just to generate traffic to his website... all of VL's story submitions are just post on his website. (User vl has never even made a post)
It is either sad that slashdot editors don't pick up on this or worse they know and are intentionally supporting it...
Hey better yet you pay me 25 a month for a year and I'll give you one. You save 59.40 and I make 101. (Unit for sale at $199 without the monthly service)
lack of scenery, and other glaring faults, and it's easy to see that gym is no EverQuest.
I don't know about you but I get good 'scenery' at the gym, and then she comes home with me and we play video games... But I guess not everyone has a girlfriend as cool as mine...

Well I am sure its true, because 99.9999% software (full retail) and 0.0001% Cash (A five that fell in to the crate of MS Bob that no-one wants to risk reaching into) Is still a Mix....
Alderaan shoots first.
Don't be ridiculous.
But the empire does have evidence (well hints, ok just hunches) that Alderaan maybe have (thought about vaguely) Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Yeah - this is even an ad, posted by viperlair.com itself. Too bad they completely slashdotted themseleves pretty quickly:P
Why was this parent post modded down? The submiting slashdoter is VL=viperlair the linked to their own site..
Really? you think that would be good?
You can have mine...If you can figure out how to move it...
It is huge... It is supposed to be 8"x11" but I can tell you it seems much larger than that.
Oh and don't even get me started about its weight! You would think a mouse pad couldn't be more than.5kg but seems like more than a million kg...

I was wondering why he choose Yeast.
I would think that if a cell is moving its morelikely to be a single cell organism than one cell in a multi-cellular organism. I mean why would a squamous cell (skin) or an osteoclast/osteloblast (bone) move??
It's not the fault of the packaging. Okay, so her breasts are lethal weapons, sure. But I like the cover art. It shows that she's strong, she's tough, she's an adventurer, she's solo - she doesn't need a man! She *owns* those guns, and she knows how to use them. What's not to like?
Whoa whoa whoa - back that up there. She LIKES the cover art? Lara Croft? What the hell? Look at her breasts! They're huge! And those shorts are TINY! How could any woman *LIKE* Lara Croft's signature pose? Its so blatantly sexual! By definition, all women should hate it, right?! WRONG. Like I said again and again: Women do not mind attractive females in games. They enjoy their sexuality too, because its *part* of how they define themselves as a woman. They IDENTIFY with a woman's sexual power. So what do they hate? Read on:
But the hype surrounding Lara Croft was gross. The hype undercut her image as strong smart archeologist. The hype made her into a sex kitten.
And BINGO! It was the marketing! The focus! Here, a female gamer was impressed not only with the attractiveness of Lara....
MachDelta, you missed the point totally. She said she like the art because it showed she was tough, and specificly she qualified the objectification and design of her "breasts {as} lethal weapons" as negative points. They "undercut her image as a strong smart archeologist."
I am not saying I agree with the parent article (its overwhelming in its negativity), but female character designs do tend to have a overwhelmingly large breasted design. For example, my girlfriend and I just started Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II. And while there are several female chacters to choose; they,as my GF said "all have huge breasts." This was true in the orginal game (both the single female player charcter and as in an NPC). In fact that very article you metion sites this game as an example of hyper-sexualized non-player characters. The current state of women in games betrays the fact that most games are designed for guys.
My Yahoo mail account is now at 100MB (spam away)
The Yahoo mail homepage also reflects this fact here

NVidia thanks, and currently several itterations of PunkBuster (used by many online games) causes problems with Nvidia cards...
