Last time i made the drive it took me 12! For Canada day a few years ago, several of my friends and I took a road trip to Ottawa, departing from Brantford (an hour south of Toronto). In Ajax the Ford Tauras I was driving (my friends car, should be called ford poor-ass) overheated and started on fire because he hadnt put any coolent in it (as it was a leaker). Pulling over in the busy long weekend traffic was difficult and geting the car fixed took a couple hours out of the drive.
A few hours later in Smiths Falls, the alternator belt broke. This of course rendered the car useless as within minutes the battery had died and we had to pull over. Getting the car fixed was not an option at this point because it was after 9pm and the local crappy tire was closed. Getting the car towed took money and more time off the clock.
When we finally got to Ottawa is was dark and late, so it was difficult to know where we were going. Needless to say, we overshot Ottawa and ended up in Hull - the ensuing detour took more time off the trip.
i have always found the history behind telephone technology facinating... i dont know why, maybe its the phreaker in me coming out, but it is just interesting stuff.
it seems to me that telephones were really ahead of there time technologically.
the thing that gets me though, is considering todays available technology, why is the sound quality of phones still so bad? you would think by now they would have done something about this. it really shows when you listen to a recorded phone call or the sound difference when someone calls into a radio/tv show.
i think its funny that people put profanities in their code, but i think its even funnier that someone codded a program to look for swear words in code!
There is something really sneaky going on here. The fact that SCO and M$ seem so closely tied really makes me wonder what is going to happen in the near future in regards to some sort of M$ unix/linux hitting the market - or maybe some sort of hybrid like OSX. Or maybe I just dont know what I am talking about...
(Im really just procrastinating - I have an essay on how opium was used to incorporate china into Western economic and political domination due today that I dont want to finish!)
here is another really important file that has been missed by the mandrake 10.0 community release. too bad too because i just downloaded it yesterday.
i guess however it does give mandrake time to prepare for the proper release as there will be enough reasons now for people to want to upgrade to the standard retail release.
well the last book by this company that i bought was programming linux games - and eventually that book was released free! i wonder if this will happen for this book as well?
I dont drink and drive so obviously this has no appeal to me.
We do already have this in Ontario as some sort of punishment for convicted DUI'ers and I think its a great idea for them - but as a non-drinker-and-driver I wouldnt want to deal with the inconvience on a daily basis, and I think I can speak for everyone else who fits that criteria.
while the idea is good, why does it have to look so ugly?
I hate having to tune my guitar all the time, but I really could not see myself ever wanting a guitar that looked that bad!
Couldnt they have concealed the tuning buttons a little better, and that crazy tuning bridge thing is just too ugly and out of place. Too bad, because this is a really good idea.
i used to think geos was really neat back in the c64 days, but i found that it was just too slow and most likely limited by the fact that the system only had 64k of ram. i think too the fact that it ran from a floppy drive made it pretty darn slow, especially when i only had the one.
anyways, very cool to see this has been released... ahh the memories!
hahaha true.
i tried downloading rpm binaries from a cooker ftp site and it just wrecked my kde with too many dependancy problems... so i went ahead and downloaded mandrake 10.0 beta 2 from bit torrent...
kde looks very nice, doesnt load much quicker imo, but it looks nice and seems to have had a few cleanups.... as far as this beta release goes - there are still some bugs that need to be squashed (obviously)
I wonder how much money they invested into the research and development of this disposable dvd technology only to have the public basically say fuck you.
To me this has always seemed like the biggest slap in the consumers face. I am glad to see that they are abandoning the technology (for now).
I was wondering what sort of processor does this device use? What sort of computing power does it then produce? Can programs be compiled with it? How long can it last with whatever kind of batteries it needs?
I guess you could say Im interested and think this thing is cool!
My IBM Idea Scan scanner (parallel) is not supported under linux.
My Sound Blaster 16 will only operate in full duplex mode under windows, meaning that I cannot do mulitrack recording with Linux.
The other 98% of the time I actually do use linux and I am quite happy with it.

I wish it only took 3.5 hours from Toronto.
however, if konqueror could display pages as well as firefox/mozilla, i would probably switch to that as it seems faster.

will this kernel be available in cooker?
if they are giving office away for free, I dont feel so bad for downloading it from mldonkey.

so moving.
how much would that rock!
but delaying the system hopefully means a better selection of games at launch and a chance to tweak the system even further.

never heard of those cars before either - the things that one can learn from slashdot!
but still, a 32bit dragon processor running 33mhz should be enough... but i guess its not
it has the right resolution, but unforunatly an arm processor is required to emulate a 1.7?mhz processor? shouldnt this device be able to handle this?
Right now we pay that tax on minidiscs, blank cds and tapes, shouldnt that be enough?

Thats great... I paid like $60 dollars CDN plus tax for this and now its free?
good idea, but not practical.
who wants to have towear a bracelet to use their computer?
