    I'm in Texas and I agree that this was the mildest summer I can remember. I don't agree however that it means a harsh winter to follow the trend, what if what we are seeing is some kind of buffering effect from extreme heat as well as extreme cold?

    Surely radiation detectors will sort it out within a day or two.

    If this were a nuclear event it would be easily detectable by the storm of neutrinos it would have created. You can't test a nuke (on this planet anyway) without the rest of the world knowing.

    Actually, Sarin is a liquid that vaporizes at room temperature. So it is a liquid, and CAN be easily transported in drums.

    I'm pretty sure that Peter Criss, Neil Peart, and Shelia E are not terrorists, so what's the big deal?

    They must have a partnership... I ordered a monitor one afternoon and it was on my porch waiting for me the next afternoon. Considering how far I am from the nearest UPS hub, all I can figure is that they have a stock of parts onsite.

    PC Magazine (It's mainly for n00bs, but I like reading Dvorak's column.)
    Wired (because I like knowing what Japanese schoolgirls do)
    Retro Gamer (although it's mainly for British retro gaming, which is suprisingly different a lot of the time than American retro gaming).

    You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You may have to tough it up and take a path that is not enjoyable to you, as most of the rest of us normals have done, and save the soul-nourishing for the weekends and holidays.

    I don't live without Windows because there are too many apps and games I like that simply requires it, but I've been making an effort over the past few years getting comfy with Linux and trying lots of distros (SuSE is where I seem to have landed), because I'm pretty sure that in The Future®, M$ is going to be doing a pretty good job of force-feeding it's users the content they are supposed to be eating, and keeping them away from the other stuff. I want to be able to have a non-DRM/Pushed-Content/Locked-In/Locked-Out type digital world, so that's why I keep myself Linux-able. I don't set up any computers for myself now without dual or triple-boot options.

    ...make a small lighter-than-air craft that's hefty enough to support a few solar cells, an electric motor with a propeller, the guts of a camera/cellphone/GPS unit, and a few wires and things, and rig it up so that you can call it up and direct it where to go and take pics or video. If you run it out of juice, just wait awhile for the cells to charge it back up while it drifts merrily along. If it loses cellphone coverage (which it shouldnt very often, being high in the sky), just wait for it to drift back into range of another tower. The biggest problem I have thought of is finding a way to contain the helium or hydrogen (oh the humanity!) without it leaking away, as it always seems to do even from those metal foil balloons.

    Yeah, there's another thing that I'm never gonna do. And I'm aware that there's probably severe problems with the concept itself so go ahead and tell me why this would never work.

  24. No no... on USS Enterprise Finally Flies · · Score: 1

    I had a flying Enterprise when I was 6. It was attached to a center swivel base by a plastic arm and flew in a circle, but could liftoff and land at any point, and you controlled the thing with a wired handset. It had a fan mounted under the dish section of the ship which provided lift. As I remember it came with a little plastic guy that you could pick up and, well, set back down via a hook under the Enterprise.
