    The main problem with this is when something breaks, it's expensive to replace.
    I need a logic board for my 9600. To purchase one from a 'reputable' dealer (ie, not ebay) between 175 and 250USD. Power supply? 99-199USD.

    Ok, screw it, I'll get a parts box from ePay; owwies! 120-500+ USD
    For that, I could get a quad PPro server, or build a luggable out of a Shuttle barebones flexatx dealie, or get my band a used reeltoreel(or PA or some cabs), fnord!

    I like the architecture. I think apple has done some great things, and some real boneheaded things.
    I just wish the damn bits weren't so much.

    Yes, it may be 600 bucks, and yes, that is a little excessive for something you didn't realize you needed until five minutes ago.

    Especially considering you can get an incredibly sexy Libretto or Picturebook for cheap. (well, relatively cheap)

    Actually, I have very poor depth perception.
    I have for most of my life
    I can function normally, pick up things, drive, etc. The only time I have problems is when there isn't anything else to reference, shadows, change of size, etc.
    That's not that big of a deal either, because I can 'feel' depth unless I'm tired. Call it intuition, The Force(tm), experiance ::shrug:: I dunno
    Whichever, all I know is the only actual problem I have with no depth perception is small flying objects (damn you HS gym!)

    A tachometer measure revolutions per minute(rpms) you're thinking of the odometer (which is part of the spedometer 90+% of the time), which measures miliage.

    I don't know about you, but I'm still bitter about the movie houses stopping the release of Laserdiscs.
    I've got a couple of DVDs, but as a 'Universal' digital media, it falls real short
    I wish that high-end MO disks, or DVD-RAM got as popular in the states as it is in Japan.

    I work at Xtramart, it's a gas station/convinience store in New England.
    I left college (umass) mostly because of depression.
    It's alright for a toilet job, I don't have to do much. I get paid $9/hr at night for staying awake basically.

    I'm applying at some of the local PDs for a civilian dispatch job. That is slightly more stressful, but 15-25/hr.
    I can get by on 9/hr, but how am I supposed to buy toys with that? :P

    I have a copy of these, and their red japanese cousin made by NEC (the pc8401, iirc).
    cute little things, run about a month on double AAs, have a Billy-Born MS basic, a directory listing with fancy arrow-key navigation, w00

    If so, than that's stupid, no Sysadmin worth his salt would leave a machine without proper updates/securing.
    An workstation/server is only as secure as you want it to be, that's it.

    I was attending college as an EE/CS double-major. After about a year, I went into graphics design.
    Currently, I am taking some time off to pursue more "traditional" skills. Partly because I'm curious, partly because it's a bit of a rarity for 'normal people' and/or nerds like us to get into these fields
    I'm taking some blacksmithing courses, and am signing up for a small-engine repair class later next month.

    Screw you guys with your fancy-ass video cards, poor people *tweak* baby! I had a P200(nonMMX) with a Savage4 and I got it to play UT.
    I currently run a G400(guh) and I run Counterstrike in OpenGL 800x600x32 at a consistent 70fps, it spikes to 99+

    So when is the shipping company getting off it's ass to bring me mine? :D
