The naked dsl service offered by Qwest does not have a dial tone (so I have read).
Even if they did need a dial tone they could still set it up to not allow you to make any calls unless you bought phone service.
In Phoenix,AZ Cricket offers unlimited local service for $29.99 Its only about $10 more than a land line. I know a lot of low income people who have this cell service and no land line. Since its prepay there are no credit checks and its actually a lot easier to get than a land line from qwest and the basic phone is free after a rebate.
The FCC restricts what modulation can be broadcast on what frequency. Digital TV broadcasts are modulated with 8VSB (Vestigial Side Band) where digital radio uses IBOC with COFDM. Using IBOC they can transmit Analog and Digital at the same time on the same frequency.
DirecTV will not sell you anything less than total choice. I think its $34 or $35 now. DishNetwork will sell HBO for $14 but has a $5 surcharge for not getting the cable channels.
I miss USSB. They only charged $1 for extra recivers and had all the channels that I liked. I didn't sub to directv at all when they were around. I read somewhere that they had around 200,000 subs that did not subscribe to directv.

I don't see how screwing around with a card is easier than not screwing around with a card.
Open Transport had problems keep IP connection open until OS9. We had to copy the extensions from OS9 to the OS8.6 workstations because Apple stopped supporting 8.6.

The content of any patch should be such that it is clear to any listener that such communications are not involved. Particular caution must be observed in calling any business telephone. Calls to place an order for a commercial product may be made such as the proverbial call to the pizza restaurant to order food, but not calls to one's office to receive or to leave business messages since communications on behalf of ones employer are not permitted. Calls made in the interests of highway safety, however, such as for the removal of injured persons from the scene of an accident or for the removal of a disabled vehicle from a hazardous location, are permitted.

TechTV is Free to Air on C-band. I doubt the cable company pays them anything to be carried.
