Actually the secret is that the buttons don't do anything, they're like the buttons on an elevator, just there so you feel like you're doing something.

In reality the computer just figures out what needs to be done and does it. We already know it has baddass voice recognition, it just eavesdrops on everyone's conversation and takes the appropriate action.

I'd think that's the only thing that makes sense. The computer goes, "Hmm, the shields are going down, if I don't redirect power from everything available, I'll be blown to smithereens.. nah, I'll wait for wesley to push some buttons before I do anything to protect myself and the ship" Dumbass computer.

Sometimes you do. Here's an example that totally bit us in the ass a few weeks ago. We have a quickeys script that uses a quark manager, any files routed to a specific person get automatically converted and saved to a server, then the files get marked to show that they've been converted.

Now under OSX and OS9, if the network dies, our quark manager will automatically reconnect to the network, but our mounts won't autoremount. So the script ends up saving the files to a random location, and marking them complete.

I would much rather have the script die when it couldn't find the directory, rather than save them in a random place and mark them complete.

Whenever the network dies, someone has to go through and find all those files by hand.
