    My father is a college professor and he frequently complains about the problems he faces trying to prevent his students from downloading a term paper and handing it in.

    Tell your father to get his school to subscribe to this

    It automatically checks papers and compares them with papers available for sale on the internet.

    If anything, the internet has made it easier to detect plaigerism.

    and this has been a problem for color blind people who go by the position, rather than the color of the light.

    Maybe for people who are 100% color blind (and see only in greys) but the majority of people are red/green colorblind (like my brother).

    That's why the green light isn't green, but aqua. My brother says red lights look greyish-orange, green lights look blue.

    I've heard some estimates that Viacom was going up 50% in some cases in price.

    EchoStar Chief Executive Charlie Ergen told reporters this week Viacom had asked for a 40-percent rate increase over an undisclosed multi-year period. But one of his own lawyers admitted in a San Francisco court Viacom was asking for an average 7-percent rate increase.

    Boy did I feel dumb (and taken) when I found out the ink drys in about 3 months or so

    So get a laserjet. My HP LaserJet4L has lasted me for over a decade now. The damn thing runs forever, and toner doesn't ever go bad, so if you only use it twice a year, a single $60 toner cartridge will last you forever.

    It just had the perfect feel and was fairly well built. It was the only joystick I've ever seen survive Decathalon.

    While using unstable Windows 95 at home, I admired apple for creating stable operating systems such as Macintosh OS, which I used in my university.

    As crappy as Win95 is, OS7 and 8 were a lot worse in terms of stability.

    I've never met a OS7 user who hasn't had to "rebuild his desktop" at least every other week.

    I know a lot of people complained about the price, but given the fact that they've now sold out, Apple would have been stupid to set a lower price.

    I dunno, Apple may be forced to drop the price in a bit. What percentage of those buyers already own an iPod? Is Apple really increasing its marketshare or is it just selling a device to its most diehard fans?

    Selling out on launch isn't impressive, the dreamcast did that, continuing to make sales after you sold to your hardcore fanbase is what matters. In 2 months if the miPod is still selling at a brisk pace, then we can say that Apple was right about the price point.

    True, but they're rare (Madden and Animal Crossing). and Animal Crossing comes with a memory card in the box.

    Here in Canada, first-party mem-cards can run $40. Five cards? Yes, I could easily need five cards.

    I don't think so. Here in the US Nintendo 250 slot memory cards cost $15.

    The average game uses 3-6 slots for a save game. So you're looking at about 25 save games for $15.

    I don't think you would ever need 5 cards.

    Because he's reviewing a severly beta version of Evolution? The version he's using doesn't even refresh the inbox list until you change folders.

    Stick with 1.4.5 (which does support importing mailboxes) until 1.5 becomes 1.6

    The concept of "search folders" and being able to flag messages for follow-up in many colours is, simply put, invaluable. Mozilla mail doesn't even come close--although it should.

    Um, both of those features are in Evolution.

    Joss Whedon should call up USA. With Monk and Dead Zone it's obvious that USA isn't afraid to back a strange-yet-brilliant show.

    Or maybe FX (Nip Tuck, The Shield) or Bravo (Keen Eddie, Touching Evil).

    Cable is really the only place you can find good shows that don't dumb down to the common denominator.

    Fox is just stupid. How much money are they making from the Firefly dvds and Family Guy dvds? Compare that with how much money you would expect an any reality TV DVD to make.

    In a couple of years, fox is going to have to reach all the way back to In Living Colour in order to make DVD sales... because no one wants to buy anything that they currently air.

    Remember Ghosts 'n' Goblins?

    I picked up Super Ghosts 'n Goblins for the SNES a few months ago.. I can't even get past the graveyard.

    Games today are still challenging, they're just not pound-your-head-against-the-wall impossible anymore.

    I'd say that was a good thing. I can't be wasting my time playing the same level over and over again like I could when I was a kid.

    I used to have the time and focus to play games like Shadow of the Beast of the Amiga for hours, perfecting my timing.

    Shadow of the Beast, one of the most beautiful (even by today's standards) and hard (especially by today's standards) games ever created.

    You had one life, no continues, no saves. I really don't think there has ever been a game as demanding as SotB.
