Actually, when I saw movies of The Movies the first thing that came to my mind was "Theme Movie" since it seemed eerily similar to Theme Park and Theme Hospital.

  2. Good on Senate Bill To Prohibit Extra Charges For Internet · · Score: 2, Insightful

Good that Washington is taking quick action on this. Well quick action isn't necessary the right term, but at least someone is trying to get the legislation down sooner than later.

Honestly, I don't see a good reason for the telcos to be doing this. It just seems to me that they are trying to find ways to profit while they lose business (internet being a more prevalent communication medium than your standard telephone). If you're late to the party, that's your problem.

Telco companies seem to be trying to undermine the very principles of the internet lately. With having the FCC ruling last year that allowed them to not share their lines, and now seeing this, I've become very wary of anything the telecommunications industry is trying to do lately.

  3. Kinda obvious on AMD Subpoenas Skype · · Score: 1

This seemed like an obvious thing for AMD to do in their case. A lot of people thought this was fishy when it was first announced, especially since AMD appears to be making a better product for less than Intel is charging. Skype arbitrarily picking Intel on a whim is one thing, but there's no real logic behind any reasoning people have come up with. Unless you factor money into it.

With Skype being one of the leaders in VoIP and also a popular pick for podcasters, requiring Intel processors is an interesting, but smart, way for Intel to tap a growing niche market. And I doubt that it will be a niche market for too long.

If they could provide a limited productivity suite (Calendar, Contacts, maybe a lightweight e-mail IMAP client) this could be a good alternative to a Palm, especially for a younger generation who doesn't need to have full synchronization with a pc. Although, I wonder if the PC Lan connection for non-WiFi enabled lans could be jerry-rigged to allow synchronization of a productivity suite with a PC... But I don't think Nintendo has interest in programming apps for a PC.

Sorry but by the time Vista hits we'll already have things like UT2007 and Quake Wars out. Maybe DNF if the planets align properly this year. There's plent of non-MS games coming out this year that'll give a good boost to PC gaming. I don't see MS leading this "renaissance" particularly.

  18. Duh. Just duh. on Sony To Bundle UMDs With DVDs · · Score: 1

I would've ridiculed PSP owners a lot less if Sony actually had the brains to do this from the get go. Rather than letting their money grabbing greed shut down all considerations of common sense. But I guess when you finally wake up and realize your portable isn't the hot stuff it's supposed to be, dreamland goes bye-bye real fast. Did they really think consumers were willing to pay for a movie twice?

I'm really getting sick of this "me too" stuff that's coming down from the telcos. I've got $5 that they're afraid that things like VOIP which can be run on other distribution systems (aside from telco lines) is gonna put them out of business. This just seems more of the same, almost like their trying to skim a little off the top of all the success Google gets. You don't see power companies doing this, it's pretty much the same thing.

And of course, this proposal of Verizon's is gonna end up getting costs passed onto consumers, someway or another.

If FFXII is going to make up for all three of these big releases, it's gonna take a metric ton of sales.

  24. Well that's a change on Sony Takes Aim at Xbox Live · · Score: 1

Interesting... hasn't their whole stance been "you're on your own" in regards to connecting with other players for games? Given that their competition (MS and to a lesser degree, whether or not they consider themselves a competittor, Nintendo) have both rolled out various connection & matchmaking services, both to great success, it would've been foolish of them to not consider doing the same.

On a side note, if this is related to them missing the purported "spring release" then that's not going to be a bad thing for them in my mind. Especially if they can get some launch titles to take advantage of it.
