    Go figure.

Square just knocked a bunch of games down in the last few months to the Greatest Hits lists

I believe I read a press release that in Dec, the following games are going to be moved to GH as well.

    Xenogears
    Final Fantasy Chronicles
    Vagrant Story
    Final Fantasy Anthology (?)

I know that final fantasy 7 - 10 are on the GH list, and Kingdom Hearts was moved to that as well recently.

This is pretty sweet since the only games that were on this list for a long time where the ones done by Square when Sony was their publisher in the states (before Square EA was formed)

Well the only reason that the sound etc is different for Japanese Zelda II is because that was originally for the Famicom Disk System attatchment. All you pick up from that is an additional sound channel I believe, which is noticeably different, but its not that big a deal.

Besides, they eventually converted that one to cartridge in Japan along with Metroid and other FDS games.

In terms of the series degrading, I'm probably seeing Revolutions this weekend, but it's to be expected. The original was fresh, original and hadn't been done before. To try and top that along with the percieved expectations people have for the sequels is crazy.

To quote The Matrix "It's going to work, because no one's every done this before". 'nuff said. That's why the 1st rules, and everyone hasn't liked the rest.

  16. Accessibility on Where Are The Videogame Soundtracks? · · Score: 1

Not having read the article yet (silly 56k connection), there are a few tips I can offer for anyone into this sort of stuff:

    1) PC Games - Try running a CD Player app on older games that use Red Book. You can get some good stuff through this (Total Annihilation, Half-Life, Carmageddon) however you don't have any track titles to go with, which is a pain.

    2) PC Games - A lot of newer games are using files on the hard drive for music. Look for .ogg, .mp3, .wav in the game directories. Also, if the game uses propriatary formats search for plug-ins to things like Winamp to see if you can get a plug-in for that format.

    3) Playstation Games - Some of these used Red Book as well, so pop them in a CD Player and check it out.

    4) In terms of imports, Animenation (http://www.animenation.com) carries a decent selection of game soundtracks from Japan at pretty decent prices. Also, if there's been a domestic release (as it seemed like some companies started doing a few years ago, yet stopped doing so) they will probably have it as well.

Check the nintendo website... Their press release for this price drop also mentions Metroid Prime and others hitting Greatest Hits.

Basically 1/2 the games available for bundle are now $30. Do the math = you come out $20 richer than before.... Unless you get a mem. card. Then you're par for the course.

There's still a chance the market could flop over like a bunch of fish...

A LOT of people are starting to look at the industry now... Why? Because it is making money... Not only that, it has grown during America's recent depression/recession/bubble burst/whatever. The industry makes more than hollywood.

This is probably the same reason why MS got into this in the first place.

And now we have more systems hitting the market? We got the N-Gage poised to flop, the phantom in vapor-land, and i just heard about something else new but i can't remember the name at all right now.

My point is: Before Nintendo, the market flopped due to 2 things. 1) Too many systems = too many options for consumers. 2) Too many clone games = not enough original titles.

If Nintendo has to montior what's being developed to ensure #2 doesn't happen, so be it. I'd rather have a system with 400 original games, than 1,000 games that are all ripoffs of other games.

And unless we get more companies like MS trying to force their way in, #1 probably won't happen for a while, unless Nokia's N-Gage actually turns out to be useful and fun in some strange way.

You're kidding right? The system has only been here for a year and a half. The next system is still a ways off. Xbox2 is still only on the drawing board, with ATI and Nvidia having just gotten done with battleing for the GPU on that.

Just because a system announces a price drop that doesn't mean something new is on the horizon. Heck the price dropped two summers ago to its last current price ($149).

If you read the press release on nintnedo's website it's obvious this is a pre-emptive holiday drop.

Either way, for me the question is which color to get.... Platinum matches my GBA, but Black matches the PS2 which it'll sit next to or on top of.

    Decisions, decisions....
