    Where were you in late 2016? APK and I fought to a draw. We stayed out of each other's way since then. That epic fight probably attracted my merry band of trolls and why APK shows no mercy when they mess with him.

    I was responding to an email from YouTube Creator Support when the "Smart Compose" feature popped up and I turned it off without a second thought. I found the Social/Promotions nonsense more annoying. I don't like it that I have to hunt around for emails that should be in my primary email box.

    I taught myself to hand code HTML. I didn't need no stinkin' WYSIWYG editors to produce webpages. Unfortunately, those early WYSIWYG editor threw out a lot of spaghetti code. I was the go to guy for figuring out why the table element wasn't playing nice in Netscape and Internet Explorer. Those were the days.

    Online fights with ACs are not a substitute for normal friendships, Chris.

    I stopped tracking all the fake accounts you have created for the express purpose of harassing me on Slashdot. However, I did double take when I saw that account name and sent off an email to Slashdot management. The account name was such an egregious violation of a very permissive TOS that it was a no brainer. That's the eighth user account that I've gotten deleted in two years.

  10. Medical devices being on the general VLAN is a serious vulnerability. Unfortunately, there's no uniform standard to secure medical devices across the network. Doesn't help that Windows XP is the OS for some medical devices.

    For a nation-wide government IT project, $50K per year is the national average. Those who live in the boonies are making out like bandits. Those of us who live in the cities are getting by. However, it's a five-year contract with full benefits (no gold-plated pension) and Christmas bonuses (one-month extra pay). I'm looking forward to another five-year contract in 2019.

    I played Sargon II on the Commodore 64 for five years until I regularly beat the game. My last and final game that I won was against nine queens on the board. I thought I stumbled upon a programming error but later learned about promotion.

    Previous versions of the Apple Watch with extra-long wrist band never fit my wrist because I'm big boned. The AW4 is longer (42mm vs 40mm) and an extra-long wrist band does fit on my wrist. Still a tight fit. However, I haven't worn a watch in 20 years and getting a watch isn't on my to-do list. I'm going to use my Christmas bonus in December to buy an iPhone XR instead.

    A coworker found child porn by accident while transferring data between old computer to new computer and noticing a large number of image files with disturbing filenames. He reported it to our supervisor. Security confiscated both computers. The user, an accountant, demanded his old computer back and refused a loaner computer to get him back to work. He spent two days banging on the doors of IT and security, chasing after IT techs in the hallways, and making an ass out of himself in front of the security cameras. Third day, he was gone.

    Ironically, users were was given six weeks of warnings to get their personal files (i.e. iTunes music library) off their old computer for faster deployment of a new computer. No matter how many warnings, some users just don't listen.
