Before the iPhone, there really weren't any consumer devices that use the TRRS jack. Nowadays, almost every smartphone supports that. It's only *STANDARD* because Apple pretty much made the adoption of it standard.

  6. Re:The Death Of Fax Machines Has Been Grossly... on So Long Voicemail, Give My Regards To the Fax Machine · · Score: 2

I worked at an office that handled medical insurance claims, and we had fax machines. We would routinely exchange information with customers via fax. We upgraded to a fax server from our physical fax machines, and at the same time, to a voip solution. The fax trail went something like this:

Paper (analog) to PDF (digital) via a scanner sent to user's workstation. PDF (digital) to fax server which places a FAX phone call using an analog audio modem signal (PSK). VOIP inherently converts the analog signal to Digital, until it reaches the POTS, where it is converted back to analog. Analog signal reaches the destination fax machine, where it is printed digitally.

With so many D/A and A/D conversions, we regularly had failed fax attempts due to line noise, quantization noise, etc.... It's amazing even a single fax ever got through. Many times, the customers just gave up.

  13. Thank you Gamestop on GameStop Swoops In To Buy ThinkGeek For $140 Million · · Score: 3, Insightful

I think this is a good move. Gamestop can certainly use the power that thinkgeek has. Last year I redeemed some points that I earned from Gamestop to purchase something from their rewards store. Most of the things there are stupid Nintendo lanyards or bracelets - completely useless and hardly noteworthy. I opted for a Skyrim Daedric sword letter opener. It was cool, but badly made. If they offered a coupon for something in thinkgeek's catalog, I would have been much happier.

I also own a Verizon G2, still on KitKat. Are you using the stock Lollipop? Can you give actual numbers on the battery lifetime?

Although Cyanogenmod doesn't seem to have support for the G2, there is a third-party ROM that a lot of users seem to enjoy. I haven't switched to it because of the minor installation problems that many have noted. I'm not as skilled as they are in fixing those types of problems, and I would prefer to wait for a sanctioned 5.1 or better kernel.
