It was a natural move for the porn industry. People don't want anyone to know that they are purchasing pornographic material, so the sales will naturally be highest in the most anonymous venues. It was a no-brainer to embrace internet sales.
For the music industry, nobody feels bad about picking up a CD at the mall (unless they have a secret shame of enjoying Britney Spears' music).

It makes perfect sense for the chain music stores to lose all their business. Who needs to go to Tower Records for the latest top 40 when you can get it from Target/Wal Mart/online.
What I'd be interested in seeing is how the small independent music stores are holding up. You can find a lot of obscure music on Amazon, but lots of people are loyal to their local indie shops.
www.popcap.com has a bunch of fun Java games.
Unfortunately, I think they might be optimized for Microsoft's VM, but they will still work pretty well in 1.4.1
Well, seeing as how Willow was directed by Ron Howard, and Raiders by Spielburg we can say that Lucas can have good ideas, but his ability to put them on film is better left to others...
That's why Empire is considered the best SW movie.
They lose money by producing units...when you buy one, you are giving them some money back... Let the thing rot on the shelf, and MS REALLY loses some money then.

I guess Starbucks hasn't invaded the U.K. yet if you think $2 is expensive for coffee....
As other repliers have stated, you cannot correctly connect two graphs when there are so many possible explainations available. Also, I believe that temperatures are rising and falling in a fairly natural way. However, the CO2 graph linked does not really reflect the enormity of the problem. My lacking google skills cannot find the graph I seek, but if you look at geological studies of sendimentary rock, global carbon dioxide levels lightly fluctuate for millenia UNTIL around 1870. Since the industrial revolution, the carbon levels in rocks show a sharp increase continuing to this day. As I stated earlier, I don't think this has affected global temperatures yet, but if CO2 climbs unchecked, we will end up in a full on greenhouse effect.
C# is not a bad language at all, it quite well made in my opinion.
The major point that I see in the mono project is that with an open sourced implementation of the.NET framework, you can run software on any OS that wasn't necessarily designed for it. If Microsoft's next version of Office is for the.NET framework, and mono is fully working, There will be Office on Linux. The major reason people won't leave Windows for linux is the applications....when all the applications can run on both, wouldn't you rather have the OS that doesn't cost anything?
I can't believe it has been brought up yet(unless I missed something), but moving to Canada will take the companies and employees out of reach of the RIAA and MPAA's grubby hands. The US's draconian laws don't operate too well outside of its borders (yet)
I think what the point is that the OEMs will lose money by buying Microsoft licenses once computers drop far enough in price. Hence PCs will come with linux installed, for OEMs to remain profitable.
I think the problem is that the most cutting edge PC will always be expensive enough for OEMs to make money with windows installed
The guys at Penny Arcade weren't really angry. The problem they have, and I happen to think they are correct, is that micropayment schemes, which sound wonderful, are not easily implemented. When I say 'not easily', I mean damn near impossible. If your music or other artwork becomes popular enough to generate significant revenue, you will be killed by the bandwidth costs, and/or the costs of the payment system. At this point in time, micropayments are like communism....sounds great on paper, but if you try to implement it, things are going to go wrong.
Well, in Egypt the cubit was determined by the pharoah's forearm, so it changes depending on who's in power. However, even with a midget running the place, half a cubit would be pretty substantial as far as enlargement claims go.

In addition, you can pop a TurboDuo CD in a normal CD player and go through all the music tracks....so long as you skip track #1.
My poor underappreciated TurboDuo.....
