Finally. Someone around here who has the balls to speak the truth. Thanks for nothing, Clinton.
G.W.'s finally getting Clinton's bad economy turned around. The economy was already turning sour when Clinton was in office. However, the liberal media spin constantly blames the GOP. Funny. George W. wasn't even in office (or elected, for that matter) before the economy went south.
So George W. is spending all those government budget surpluses, huh? Projected surpluses, actually - based on projections of tax revenue from a bull economy. So, really, there wasn't going to be any surplus regardless of which political flavor was in office.
If Gore won the election, CNN would be blaming the republican-controlled Congress... sigh. How gullible is America?
Thirdly, it's a very thinly-disguised mid-2nd-century political invective about the fall of Rome and Judaism and the establishment of a Christian hegemony in eastern Europe and western Asia, not the end of the world.
I humbly disagree. I don't remember reading about a period of recorded history when people took the mark of the beast, Christ returns and non-believers, the anti-christ and Satan were thrown into the Lake of Fire. I also don't remember reading about the new Heaven and new Earth, and the new Jerusalem. Surely the loss of most of the world's population during the Tribulation would have been recorded. Afterall, the Bubonic Plague was recorded - albeit centuries later.
I pray that you'll read the prophecies of Daniel and Isaiah.
When you think about it for a little bit, it makes sense. It's kind of like PI... you can try and mark an instant in time, but that instant still represents an interval. The more precise your equipment, the smaller the interval, but the interval can get infinitely smaller.
That's just because we measure time in numbers. Numbers are infinitely large and infinitely small.
Seems like we give up personal freedoms and anonymity for the sake of convenience these days. Next will come the cashless society where every purchase can be tracked.
Umm, since when did Wal-Mart have to tell you why they sell guns and not music with explicit lyrics or M-rated video games? They make more sales than any other retail chain and I'm sure they couldn't care less that some consumers find their choices to be hypocritical.
You see, when was the last time the government actually provided a service AND kept it profitable? They NEVER lay anyone off and only raise our taxes to foot the bill. The USPS lost so many billions of dollars last year - ever hear of one postal worker getting laid off? No! Why would you want a bigger government? Bigger government not only breeds higher taxes but also allows them to control more of your life. Here in my state, we have a seatbelt law. Why? Why does it matter whether or not I wear a seatbelt (I do, of course)?
Not enough to warrant cancer and neurological damage.
People, people. We're all going to die of something. Unless there's some diabetic somewhere that cannot have any sugar intake, I don't see why we're worrying about it. Don't be so naive that there's not something else out there that's causing just as much cancer as artificial sugar but just hasn't been confirmed. Either eat natural sugar or take your chances with this stuff. Seeing as how a large part of you are computer geeks anyway, I'm sure the stereotype of the geek cramming junk food and smoking ciggies all day probably applies. That's not healthy, either, and probably causes just as many cases of obesity (and resulting heart disease) as the number of cases of cancer caused by this substitute sugar.
I can't believe how much of whine factory Slashdot has become. Seems like a bunch of really young Gen-X'ers just come to this site to ask dumb questions. Of course people hate their jobs. Most people do. But you do it every day because you have a mortgage, a wife and a baby at home, and you want to maintain some semblance of a stable lifestyle. Of course management has different ideals than you do. They're managers. They understand the business/accounting/bottom-line part of things and you don't, although you think you do. Just do your job to the best of your ability and worry about what YOU have to do. And if you don't like it, go somewhere else. The next place has a high possibility of being very similar to the last place you worked.
Flame on.
Yeah. And why is it that it seems nowadays that companies have to TRICK you into buying anything from them? What ever happened to "reputable" companies with "honest prices"?
...and comparison shopping IS important. Over the holidays, Amazon was offering free shipping on purchases over $100, while Barnes and Noble was offering free shipping for purchasing two or more items. Guess which one I used...Personally, I don't see why people won't use MyPoints.com. You collect points for MyPoints, which you can use to get gift certificates and such down the road when it helps the most - like Christmas.
the end-user has to decide between installing the new AOLinux distro and lose everything on their hard drive, or just sign up with MSN and keep using their favorite programs. I think the one thing that's lost in all these discussions is that the average person is NOT up for a learning curve. If it works, keep it. I feel people are forgiving of the Windows nuances. I don't know that I can give credit to 30-50% of AOL's user base to install and learn Linux.

I understand the exchange rate with Canadian currency, but I still don't believe your average Joe Slashdotter is going to be able to afford much time on this thing.

One day no one will be able to buy or sell anything without that chip in their right hand or forehead. Be careful what you wish for.
Nice commentary. I personally think the "Under God" should stay.
The connection that the Jehovah's Witnesses comprise a religion is a little off, though. It's a cult.
Amen, Brother!
My point exactly. For as long as anything is measured in numbers, there will always be an infinite number of smaller pieces.
When you think about it for a little bit, it makes sense. It's kind of like PI ... you can try and mark an instant in time, but that instant still represents an interval. The more precise your equipment, the smaller the interval, but the interval can get infinitely smaller.

My two cents..

I can pretty much find anything I need on the Internet now without having to blow ~$50.00 on some book that I'll reference a few times.
Plus, it's hard to stop a nut or a bolt doing 17,000 miles per hour around the Earth without getting killed. Michael

I think that comment needs to be moved over to the X-Files.Slashdot.org forum. That conspiracy theory works much better over there... Michael
My sentiments exactly. It's a job, not 3rd grade ice cream time.
