I am getting so tired of reading this. As I understand it,
Well, it was the shenanigans BEFORE the election that really hurt Gore. Katherine Harris, the florida election comissioner took pains to rig the election *before* anyone knew that florida would choose the president. One of the strangest things they did -- they wanted to remove felons from the voting roles (illegal), but there was no way to do this for some reason. So they took the list of felons, and deleted EVERYONE who shared a birthday with any of them -- some 40,000 people.
Other strange things -- the counties that did have electronic voting machines (some did), in white counties, the machine wouldn't allow you to form an incorrect ballot, it would warn you and ask you to recast the ballot. In black counties, the SAME machines accepted the ballot and threw it away letting the person think they were voting.
That's just the begining of the weird antics in florida -- the problem is it demonstrates an unwillingness to play fair in the democratic process
I know you are being funny -- but I have a very serious theory. We all know its possible to design secure and tamper evident voting machines -- its probably not even that hard. We know about the gaff where the president of diebold who promised to deliver the votes to Bush... we know the republican shenanigans in florida won the presidential election.
What if the insecure voting machines aren't the result of incompetent programmers -- what if they've been made insecure on purpose so they are easy to manipulate. You can't tell me right now some republican hitman doesn't have a machine and isn't figuring out how to walk into a polling station and cast 5,000 votes at once. After all, this is the most important job in the world we're talking about here.
And if anyone ever finds out -- theres no paper trail, no audit, no log, no way to know what really went on, and it was done on purpose by a company whose president swore to deliver electoral votes to bush.
That's odd because the NT swapping strategy shouldn't do that (unless they've changed it for XP?).
NT is supposed to maintain *small* disk caches to avoid the situation you're talking about, where as linux has always had a less conservative policy of using pretty much all avaliable ram for disk cache and pushing things out when needed.
I would actually be pretty surprised if that was the case... the os SHOULDN'T kick programs out for disk cache except under extreme situations. For all the shit we give MS their kernel design is usually pretty damn good. Next time you do something like that check your disk cache levels and see if thats whats actually whats going on. If you are concerned O&O soft makes software to manage disk cache, and I believe nt internals has a utility to alter some of the disk cache properties.
Thats the problem, "being a descendant" is an exponential funcion. Everyone is the descendant of a few famous historical figures. I know descendants of lincoln, john wilkes booth, napolean, and my mom says her great great uncle was gaby hays.
but the collateral damage of blocking e-mail you want to get is not something you should be taking chances with.
Well thats the whole point, its a last resort issue. The ISP should have been warned several times and refused to do anything. I remember when orbit was operating it stumbled onto a few mail servers at the university I was an admin for. I was way overworked -- didn't know I had open relays (this was still when spam was an under the radar issue), I fixed it within four hours of getting the warning and I was grateful they provided the service.
Now if I hadn't responded, they would have tried to contact me a few times and then added me to the block list... that's really pretty reasonable. You aren't allowed to drive a car that polutes the air, why should people put up with a mail server that polutes the internet?
Steve gibson is a mixed blessing. He's informing people, thats important... but Have you ever used his Spinrite software? the software *ACTUALLY* grandstands, its insane.
Yea, except that there are already drug and tax seizure laws already short circuit the 4th amendment. The constitution is only a piece of paper, and if the court doesn't feel like enforcing it doesn't. This has happened plenty of times in the past, and will happen in the future.
Does anyone know what voice/video protocols? They should really start by implementing Yahoo/AIM/MSN yahoo and voice functions, if they are going to further fracture the way-too-many-standards-already arena of instant messenger video... its a waste of their time.
I think libyahoo2 already has voice/video implemented, but GAIM uses an older library.
Download the "Savage" Demo from S2 games. The trailer the demo plays is *INSANELY GREAT*. I would see a movie about the game in a *heartbeat*.
Here's a transcript of the voice over so you can get an idea, "In a Savage age, beyond the fall of civilization, a leader will rise. To rebuild and restore what once was. The days of uncontested human domination are over, two armies in sight, the smell of battle is in the air, and the drums of war begin a dance of death. Victory or extinction? Glory or defeat? The very hand of fate lies in the warrior grip, of the Savage."
Please note I don't work for s2 games, just a happy customer.
Well, even if it is, they are good at it! How did the price go up over $8 after threats of pulling all their cash? I wish my company could handle that kind of bad news so well.
One word, Sheeple. You'll note that SCO is down 40 cents from thursday (today being sat). I expect things to keep "trending downwards" on Monday:)
Here's the thing about Baystar *AND* RBC. They can't win. They know they were fooled. But they love money, so they can't now say "We were stupid, we fucked up...SCO has no case" because they'd be out a pantload of money. So instead they make up some clap track about the management, but the lawsuits still good;-) They know they're phucked.
I personally find their situation halarious (read: shit out of luck), and very fitting for companies wishing to profit from frivilous lawsuits.
Well nemesis made that 53$ because it SUCKED. In an interview berman said "We made a great movie." Obviously he's delusional, Nemesis was a waste of perfectly good FILM.
What I'd like to see: a compelling movie about Q. Think about it, the first episode of TNG -- we meet the Q race who puts humanity on trial, the *last* episode of TNG, Q puts humanity on trial *again*, picard of course saves the day and warns picard "You don't get it do you? The trial never ends, We'll be watching you." You could easily make a *great* movie or two about that.
Second of all, I'd like to see a movie/series about the beginings of the borg. That would be a *GREAT*.
I know you're being silly, but IIRC the parts (motor/transmission) are fairly common, and the factory produced *THOUSANDS* of spare body panels before john delorean was framed which are expensive but quite abundant.
Um actually, I worked for a research lab which recieved a presentation on the Air Forces "Global Battlesphere" Initaitve, what you're describing is *EXACTLY* what they want to be able to do. Communicate with every platoon, vehicle, troop, aircraft, weapon etc from one console.
You can't post an article of something that sounds as cool as a multi-colored onion lattice if you DON'T HAVE ANY PICTURES!! Jeesus christ its after midnight here on the west coast all I want is something cool to look at.
See thats the thing, who is going to BUY all these services? Thats what nobody can explain to me. As the middle class evaporates in the United States, *WHO* is going to buy all these 5$ lattes when I'm a barrista with a engineering degree?
See where I'm going? A strong middle class supports the economy, as it weakens so does the economy. I know lots of people who work at wal*mart and and carls junior and they AREN'T spending their money on 5$ coffee. So when we all work there -- who will buy any of it?

I find Maddox's segway design ideas intriging.

STUPIDEST COMMENT EVER. I dont even know where to begin with whats wrong with that.
If I had mod points, you man, would recieve them all.

I'll give you that :) However libyahoo2 supports cams so thats a freebee. Start with the freebee right? :)

Thats Tim Curry for you, the consumate actor the only thing he couldn't make cool is seatless leather pants and gay sex.

To stand up and say Red vs Blue SUCKS? I'll take it on the chin and burn the karma. I thought it was *terrible*. It is *NOT* a new artform.
