If you don't mind running solaris, check this out. Has an Ultrasparc IIe and takes up to a gig of ram. Great monitor as well. The thing is quick and has all the i/o throughput you could ask for.
I personally won't consider a tablet pc untill someone produces a *good* laptop/tablet hybrid. I would love the flexability of a tablet, but still have need for the functionality of a laptop, and the only hybrids I've seen so far have been marginal examples of either one. A foldout keyboard ala the sharp zaurus would ideal, provided it could swing out to assume the position of a normal keyboard. A solution such as that I would definatley consider, providing that the battery life was decent (~6 hours under light use).
Yes, but the average consumer doesn't give half a damn. Many of them don't know what a codec is, let alone differant bitrates. I'm sure very few people consider either when buying an mp3 player. From what i've observed, the two main forces are capacity and cost. As stated in another post, windows media player already supports this, yet I have yet to see someone use it. Many of the uninformed would rather buy a player with larger capactiy than deal with bitpeeling or reencoding.
In my experiance, I think its more fun to have lans with a smaller number of people. 5 to 8 seems to work out well. At that level, gaming just seems more personal and overall more fun. Try talking trash to an opponent on the other side of 5000 people, heh.
As older clusters become obsolete when does the price/performance ratio become such that the computational power of the machines is worth less than the power required to run them? Is this a signifigant problem?
a board that will let you use integrated graphics and the agp slot at the same time. It would be great for a dual monitor setup, reducing both the number of cards in your pc and probably cost as well.
I would consider a single login system if I could physically hold the key in my hand instead of storing it on some ubersever in some datacenter ill never see.. maybe a pda type thing with a bluetooth adapter you could use to login to the bank terminal, mail account, etc
From the post it dosen't really look like hes trying to make money, more like support a service for the community. I think a better idea would be to collect donations to keep it running and/or still use banner ads [preferably from local buisinesses]
I've been saying this for years.. yet still people feel they need the pentium 8 4 bagillahertz cpu to browse the web [well unless there using xp and ie 6:P]. Oh by the way, theres a great deal on the athlon xp 1600 over at newegg.
it dosen't run linux! what self respecting ghetto hardware hacker creates a ghetto hardware hack not running linux!:p
[end scarcasm]
seriously though.. that frame turned out great, I might consider building one myself, although it would be much more flexable running *nix (uploads via ftp or smb, remote access, etc) but I don't know about getting x to run on a duo, heh
Would it be possible to create other devices that use the agp slot? Imagine a gigabit or scsi controller with a 2.1 GBps link to the northbridge. Mmmm... bandwidth..
The real reason cd drives arent getting faster is because the demand dosent exist for cd rom drives!
Look at the kenwood true 72x drive... it used multiple read heads to obtain that speed. Where theres demand there is innovation. If everyone needed/wanted a 72x cd rom drive, Kenwood wouldntve stopped making them and other manufacturers would.
While what your suggesting would work, a better solution would be to get a 60 to 80mm fan adapter for the heatsink and use a low noise panaflow or sunnon 80mm fan. While a bit more expenisve, this should keep the system cooler and have an equal or lower noise level.
The us really does need a good, highspeed rail system. At least routes between NY, Chicago, and DC - or even going farther west Ny -> La? It would greatly cut down on air traffic and also be much more comfortable.
but what the hell is the 'demo' scene?
"...which sounds like a fun read about growing up curious about chemicals.."
Was this by any chance set in the 60s?

T1 is 1.54 megabits per second up and down

For turn key *nix audio, my choice would be OSX all the way.. no?
1) hit windows key + print screen real fast
2) paste
3) ???
4) profit!!!

ductape.. lots of ductape
use a windows box for the interface and stream the files over the network

I miss the days when you didn't have to be a lawyer to be a nerd...

I bet the mpaa would love to get their hands on this one, 'gives pay per view a whole new meaning.
for these to replace the X10 cameras in the popunder ads...
