No, no, I'm not saying I'm so l33t and I use lynx as my primary browser-not at all. I typically use galeon or mozilla, but often times I'm working on one of the many servers that is Xless and lynx or wget is the quickest way to find and nab something off the net. It keeps the bandwidth down, and efficiency up-illegal?
    I think not.

YES! I've been waiting for power glove and power pad support in linux.
You see, I'm building a mega-mame, and if I ever finish it I'll try to get a plug of it up on /. but neways I was able to get gamecon.c from the linux joystick driver to do my NES/SNES (and soon to be PSX and N64) stuff and for the actual MAME parts of course I'll be using a keyboard hack and real controls.

Now I can add a powerglove! I dunno how I can get it to work with the games, but it'd be a heck of a cool menuing system selection device...

    THANK YOU l33t KERNEL[MODULE] DEV'S YOU'RE MY HEROES!

I don't have money to put toward a CPU upgrade ATM so I'm stuck on 750MHz but I do have a pile of ram and HD (thus mandrake is much friendlier to me than XP, speedwise) and VV in XP typically renders in 1/4 rt for me depending on the compression (typically mp2 in and divx 5.02 out) and tracks and all that...

I'm sure Cinelerra is far inferior, but look at the stacked decks. Sonicfoundry has a full line of awesome products and have been at it for years, and for that reason they make enough money and don't wanna mess with linux.

Cinelerra on the other hand has just started, they are making a lot less money, but they're developing for my fav os!

If sonicfoundry would just listen to us begging penguins and port their stuff (mainly ACID, SoundForge, and Vegas) to linux, heck the cost wouldn't matter, I'd buy it in an instant.

This is the biggest/classic prob w/ linux users and games. Developers don't care because the linux users still buy the windows games because they're "better" (though they'd like them for linux) and they won't make them for linux because linux isn't mainstream enough yet (*WAHHHH*) for a lot of people.
I wish I could guarantee a market for you, but I really can't. If some games came out that ran on linux natively I'd probably buy them if I could afford it just to support the cause and prove that we penguins aren't just cheap geeks...(I'm very heavily on the linux side of the software "war" and I'm sure many other /.ers are as well)

I use Mandrake mainly but I downloaded RH7.3 and plan to download woody as soon as I can.
I think that we really outta be offering rebates to those who switch from windows or something. We (the open source/linux guys) need a bigger user audience. That's why windows remains the popular choice to the masses. All the lil 3rd party apps and oh games... lots of people just want their wintendo. If we had a larger group of linux users we could get more developers' attention and then get better 3rd party games and apps rather then depend on WineX and VMware. That in turn would get the attention of all the mom & pops who just wanna run quicken (go gnucash!) and an internet browser. And the process goes on. Get more users, get more developers, get more users...

I like the ppl @ redhat and mandrake and yeah SuSe too (though I'd like them more if we could download the latest i386 isos *ahem*).
